I've been looking to see if I can see anything about the world cup on Eurosport. The opening round is this weekend in Solden.

Lo and behold, it looks like it is not being broadcast on Eurosport Asia-Pacific this year. I mean what the? This is the only reason I get Europsort at all!

In Europe, it is all on Eurosport 2, which, of course, we don't get here.

Re: Eurosport - WTF!??!?! No World Cup

And the only reason we get the Foxtel Sports package AT ALL is because it has Eurosport for the FIS ski racing!!!!!

If this is correct, first is a complaint, second is cancellation of the waste of space Sports Package!

Same here, the only reason we picked up the Sports Package was the winter sports they used to show on Eurosport.

Nah, BilbyBill, you will be disappointed to hear that you're looking at a Eurosport program that does not include Australia.

There are multiple Eurosport channels, and we do not get the one that includes alpine. We only get snowboarding half pipe & stuff like that. Check the Foxtel guide for the dates around 13/14 Nov & you will see we don't get that schedule you linked to [IMG] Instead, we have a smorgasbord of handball, golf, football, basketball, extreme video gaming (!!!!!!) , tractor pulling, armwrestling etc.

Re: Eurosport - WTF!??!?! No World Cup

    Hmmm, you could be right.

The link I quoted came from the Newsletter tab at http://tv.au.eurosport.com/

However looking at my Austar Guide, well, it is not the same. But, I see in the Austar Guide, that from Sat 20th there are Winter Sports listed, mainly x/c, but with some Alpine latter on.

    http://tv.au.eurosport.com/search.shtml?query=skiing

We will have to wait and see.

Ah yes I just looked at where you are located. Maybe Austar gives you a different Eurosport that isn't syndicated through Foxtel? We used to be with Select TV as they offered Eurosport when Foxtel didn't. But this last month had to change over to Foxtel as Select TV folded. I understand that there is some difference between Eurosport 1 & 2 and International. Last race season alpine was included in the International feed, but this season it has changed to a different channel. SUCKS BIG TIME!

I'm going to Lake Louise WC and NorAm DH/SG in just a few weeks. It's on TV but better live - you get to hear that crazy whoosh/roar as a racer passes.

Re: Eurosport - WTF!??!?! No World Cup

Much the same story with us. We were with Select TV for years and enjoyed their winter sports coverage. Our only option was to switch to Austar and pick up the Sports Package. We noticed in the past that Eurosport often changed their programs without warning.

    Here is hoping..

Re: Eurosport - WTF!??!?! No World Cup

Sly, our daughter may be doing to the Sunday as part of her race training camp (being run out of Canmore). It will be dependant on how she goes with the jetlag - she lands the day before.

BB - we had the same deal with Select - but have now switched to Foxtel as a result of the shutdown. I have noticed over the past few weeks that the EPG on the foxtel website seem to be partially stuck - advertising the same snowboard parrellel slalom up as content for the past could of weeks. There are some XC events in the schedule for this weekend which have magically appeared over the past few days. The ski jumping is still listed as "Summer Grand Prix" - but it is all winter events now.

Looks like the EPG on foxtel is even less accurate than the one on Selectv!

I'll be watching the womens race at LL as well. I'll be the guy in head-to-foot black, multiple layers, jumping up and down. Not for excitement, for warmth. Another cold front is starting to build. I stay for the next week working the NorAm DH and SG.

Head to foot black, multiple layers, jumping up and down ..... sounds like a coach to me!

Unfortunately we won't be other there with them - but I'll be up on Monday morning watching the TV so we'll keep an eye out. Have fun.

What websites are you using to see what weather is building. I am keen to see how the weather works in BC and Alberta.

To be honest I'm not really looking at the forecasts. I'm going anyway, the dates are fixed. Not really any decisions to be made, so what's the point? I do have a jebus great big bag of extra clothing though.

The squidge sent us a message today to say that she really enjoyed going. She spent the time freezing to death (she was under-dressed and over dressed at the same time). They spent their time drinking hot choccie and eating free marshmallows and watching the race. She was amazed at how fast these girls went. She got a bunch of photos and a wave from Lindsey Vonn.

    Tomorrow training starts in earnest.

Just back from Beaver Creek - yep Yardy for hiking up the hill with snowshoes we stripped down to 1 layer... then rugged up with down jackets etc once up to shooting location. Getting too hot can make you cold pretty fast!

Some good photos and video from the SG and GS - bit sad about the DH. Just working on getting them up on website - NorAm from Loveland(including Hircher) nearly ready, then on to WC. Videos to follow after we get photos up.

Re: Eurosport - WTF!??!?! No World Cup

The ladies WC weekend at LL was wacky weather. Classic bluebird skies in daytime, maybe -8 in the shade, slightly above freezing in the sun, then plunging to -25C by midnight. I was working so was lightly dressed but had to carry lots of extra stuff to put on as the temp dropped once the sun left. We were on the mtn until 7pm on sunday night and it had dropped to -18 already at that point. Skiing down the very hard (water-injected) DH course by the light of a headlamp was interesting to say the least. What a scramble - Swiss Timing didn't let us move stuff into the timing building until 3:30 pm and we still managed to get a full DH training run off the next day. Was almost 10 pm by the time we finally left the timing hut.

Now the weather has warmed up and it's snowing. Course crew slaved like dogs all day to keep the fresh off the track. Just one super G tomorrow and it's all over. The track is even more tricky looking live than it is on TV. Some very steep drops with nasty off camber fallaway turns. We had a speed trap set just below the start that showed the fastest athletes accelerating from a standing start to 125 km/h in around 9.5 seconds. That's sports car performance - without an engine!

Re: Eurosport - WTF!??!?! No World Cup

There is a cool (for racing nerds) new live-to-web timing site that Alpine Canada Alpin is using this season. This week's NorAm event is the first one to use it and it worked surprisingly well first time out.

    http://www.canskilive.com/

Users with decent bandwidth can use the Silverlight utility to see the racer 'moving' down the course from interval time to interval time within seconds of the events occurring. It's basically the same as watching our timing computer's screen as the run is in progress. If you can't make it to view live, you can still see the results. ACA owns the software, so expect to see most FIS events in Canada on the list as the season progresses.

That timing app is much better than the FIS one! Awesome! We have a couple of kids racing in the Alberta club this weekend (I'll PM you the names if you want to look out for how they are going).

You guys have done some good work on the LL course.

SG was called today after 20 cm of fresh overnight. The jury did the right thing and called it early. I've seen some try to get the race off only to give up after a couple of hours of frantic work. We had tear down complete by lunch and then got a great locals tour of LL in the afternoon. Base is still thin but weather was good and it was great to ski with poles again for a change!

The live timing app is brand new and still getting tweaked but pretty nice. When there's a speed event on you can see the interval times and speed traps coming up as the racer passes through them (depending on how much bandwidth/refresh rate you've got to play with of course). The developer is the same guy who owns Skunkworks which does all the world cup software and lots of other sports besides. If you see running time in the corner of a TV sportscast, chances are it's using a Skunkworks product.

I reckon it was one of the scariest runs of our Euro trip.

No matter how much it snows later in the season, runs that have gotten that icy will never recover as nothing will stick.

We made the mistake of going down there one afternoon on blunt, burred fat skis and it was terrifying.

That said I've gone out on a World Champs downhill just after the course was closed on not quite razor sharp race skis and that was hard enough to hold an edge.

I'm watching it with an Italian commentary - pretty funny!

Try it in the dark on your first ski day of the season, and on a water-injected track to boot!
