Yeah, was just talking to some people about how ironic that the July school holidays (2nd week) was fully booked with people paying full tote for everything and having about 3.5 runs to ski....week after next week will again be school holidays with most things close enough to 1/2 price, 8-10 runs minimum open based on current snow pack and bugger all people here.

Skied for a few hours the past couple of days, only needs one word to describe....fun. Gotta get on it folks, not too long until the local lifted season is over for another year.

Gateway is a great place for lunch even if it is a bit out of the way unless you park in the Gully Car park. It is a day shelter as well so you can take your own lunch and supplement it if you wish with their tempting fare. It is generally not crowded. Clean toilets, and comfortable couches to sprawl on if you are tired.

Got to agree. Usually have a coffee there before starting. I don't go there for lunch, just cross the road and eat the goodies in the car. Handy for a pisstop.

To entice more people to sample the joys of spring here is a vid of the conditions round the resort Friday the 11th.

It was only my mates 3rd time boarding but due to the fact that it was uncrowded with slow and forgiving snow around every corner I took him on a grand tour (well, away from towers and drovers)

To say he had 2 really bad introductory lessons last month he is now loving it and picked up a spring pass for the rest of the month and super keen on the hero pass next year.

    Ok
Car was in the carpark next to inter poma which was handy.
Next time I might do a car lunch and some hot water stored to make coffee too.
If we took a small gas burner we could burn some snags and beans for lunch, just park down the back and have quick covert cook up at the back of the car.
We only ski mid week so should be right if we keep it quick.
By the time anyone smells snags theyll be eaten.

So arrived yesterday , dropped into sweet water on the way but we were a bit early Hully so went into food works up here and got some . managed to get a ski in with the kids before lifts closed . Cover is so good - we're not complaining ! South face , Big Dipper and ruined were great had a ball on first thing. My 7 year old son and I had fun on last hoot - a couple patches of grass but lots of fun . The kids ski instructors are brilliant , as have been the adult instructors that my hubby and friends have had . My friends that we have brought along and are first timers are absolutely loving it . Had a chat with lots of friendly people on the lifts . Staying at Ropers which are Amazing . We hunted for the Nikon camera that was hidden on top of highway and my friends kids found it . We have all had a brilliant day .

    Homemade vanilla slice was delicious.

And only about 12 people in the joint at about 12:30 when I ate there.

Looks great, a bit like the Melbourne Cup members car park.:)

I had lunch at the Lorna Dunkley shelter at top of Eagles, very nice, not a soul in site.

I also had a soup and Coke at Frying pan one day, cost me $18!

I popped into Sweetwater on Friday on way back from Falls and had a couple of very nice Pale Ales. was tempted to try the Winter Solstice but thought 7.5abv was a bit much!

I have been there a few times but have only seen the brewer there once. I think he is too busy enjoying the snow! Then again, once you have pitched your fermenter you can let nature takeover and do what you have to do, like ride the lifts!

brewer is there part-time during weekdays to do the stuff that he needs to, but usually leaves the "cellar door" operation to staff

and he certainly does find lots of opportunities to enjoy the snow

wins all around: good beer, lifestyle for him and his family, employment for others

Once again, kinda tongue in cheek! I actually shared a chairlift with Hully a couple of weeks ago when I was skiing with Ziggy and we also bumped into your good self at top of Scott's. Don't worry your identity is safe, your goggles made sure of that:).

I have just got back to Melbourne after two days at Falls, really good snow but not as good as a couple of weeks back obviously.

I stayed at Feathertop Lodge for one night and have got to give it a plug. It cost me $140 with a fabulous breakfast, you couldn't do any better off mountain. so it's pretty quiet midweek so make the best of the snow and get up there. The staff are great and really friendly. the manager is from NSW but don't hold that against him! Oh, there is also a great bar and restaurant!

It was such a nice day yesterday . Nice, Tshirt no glove type of weather and even changed from ski pants as I was just too hot . Had my backpack with camera and just went around taking pics . Got some really nice shots , they will look great up on the wall at home . Thought I saw Hully up the top near Scott's lift with son and wife , but wasn't sure enough to yell out . Kids had a great day in class and my 7 year old was super excited as the instructor said he could use stocks now . Hubby is getting more confident so enjoying it more and the newbies that we brought with us are all doing well , enjoying it and said they would go skiing again . Another four days of skiing and looks like another ripper today so will enjoy this weather while we can .

I was just purchasing Epic Pass for Perisher and reckon that Falls Season Pass should have "First Tracks" benefits as well. It would really make a difference. But where could it start?

Hard to tell how much snow is under those runs lakeside to begin with.

Yes the cam is a bit bumpy but not as bad as it used to be with the chest mount, I added a bit to the lower part of the chest plate to stop it bouncing as much.
But, get over on the edges and the rough doesn't slap the skis and the body around so much so its a bit smoother video.

Nice day today, snow was wet and heavy after yesterday, made it quiet hard going in the afternoon. Bugger all people about and the cover over the back still exceptional. I think this time last year we had huge holes and creeks appearing down Rapunzels, corkscrew and under ruined castle lift...not so this year. Rain has done some damage around the top of Scotty's and RC lifts but its only cosmetic. Like wise if you look back over the lake its all brown n white patchwork surrounding a clear blue lake.

    Wombats was slooow so slooow.
Got me brain storming with the Mrs on the way home, how good would it be to carpet 'as in dry slope' last hoot branching to fast hoot and bottom of wombats. Not just a guaranteed day one opener or all season saver but potentially FX turning year round....
    ride n slide 365!!.

I'm not the one responsible for the beer tree by the way, I imagine its a staff hiding spot and mid day watering hole. The photo doesn't show the full scope..well over one hundred decorations I would guess.

10 cents refund per can or bottle in SA. Pity the state border is so far away ...

I think NSW are implementing a refund plan in 2017

Fun day skiing today. No real freeze overnight so soft from the get go but a bit of cloud cover and cool breeze kept temps down. Snow was heavy but not slushy. Scotts still a great ski and probably the pick of it but most of the back side is very nice spring skiing. Had couple of runs down The Slot and Cabbage Patch with 6yo Dude with Attitude...still reasonably easy to pick a line down but think tomorrow will be last day for Summit Chair for 2015 winter. Nobody there, all lifts straight ski on and Lift Co isn't even bothering with some queue races eg FEX into scan gates.

Yesterday was fabulous, off-piste was good into the afternoon. Great cover over the back for this time of year.

Was planning to get up and do it again today but stuff happened :( hopefully tomorrow if the weather is ok

Looks to have been a nasty accident on the way down today. Just passed the turn off for Bogong village a flipped 4X4 with a motorbike under its bonnet. Saw a guy in bike leathers at the side of the road on his mobile hope he and everyone else involved is ok. Probably one of the scariest areas of the mountain with it been super exposed and a sheer drop down to bogong lake.

    on the snow....
Nice slushy conditions today, soft from the get go. Plenty of folks about and quite a few driving up for the kids holidays as we left.

    horrible

in general, ski traffic is not nice to mix with, on motorbike or pushies. (not attributing blame to anyone.)

Fun skiing the past couple of days. Summit turned for the last time for season 2015 yesterday, had a few fun runs down it both days....still possible to find a line down most aspects but cover patchy and skiers very few. Backside is in great condition, though there hasn't been a freeze for a few days a bit of cloud cover and a cool breeze has kept snow cover from melting excessively. Scotts is the pick of the groomers, a real fun fast ski. Creeks that break through early are just starting to show now. Both frontside hometrails (Broadway and Wombats) still have full cover. Pretty much nobody up there...great for skiers, no good for businesses.
Though the accumulative snowfall for the season wasn't high and we never got much past 1 metre of base the snow cover is holding up much better than I expected.

Needing to walk half a km past Nordic bowl for serious XC skiing. Start early. Some potholes and bare patches ahead and on Sun Valley. Half the Sun Valley loops gone.

Light snowfalls initially at lunch, then some heavy snow then eased up by 2-3.

    Going skiing/walking again tomorrow.

Summit area is closed for alpine.

Nice day today and a big change to the past couple of weeks. A cold day with a really firm base, probably the closest to an icy surface for the season due to a bit of rain overnight then a significant temp drop. Weather gave us everything today....snow flurries, blue skies and heavy snow falls. The skiing was really good. Still nobody around, my young dude with attitude and I never really waited behind a single person to load a lift. Lift Co has pretty much given up on queue races for everything except FEX, Drovers and Towers.
This cold blast has really set up the snow base and I think set things up for a pretty easy run through to the finish first weekend in Oct. I have seen us in a much worse condition at this point of the season coming off a much deeper peak base.
