Try Alpine Apartments.
Maybe falls creek central reservations - they handle the widest array of accom I think.
You haven't said what style of accom you are looking for, or how many. At the budget end Alpha is probably a good start.
Not sure if accom places bundle lift & lessons these days.
Check out falls creek resort facebook page
Thanks for all the suggestions
Went up yesterday expecting the pistes to be ice cubes and planning to tour but found the groomers were pretty good at least around Towers. Hard yes but there was some loose stuff on top. And it stayed firm till I left early arvo.
Off-piste in the resort was truly horrible in places with frozen ski tracks and chunks of snow.
Side-country slopes with the right aspect were the best, after a bit of sunbaking.
Sensational conditions around Heathy Spur this morning.
When the cover runs down and over Rocky Valley Creek it's a season to remember.
And when it oozes over the eaves at the Windy Corner shelter.
Up to 50mm of **** possible today according to BOM. Aquageddon?
Notwithstanding the inclement weather it just seems astounding that with 2m of the white stuff you can fire a canon without fear of hitting anyone. I know it is not school holidays but where are the people? Or has it just got to the stage now where O/S is the only go because the pricing is just so silly....together with the drive up, the crap parking, the silly lift prices, the slow lifts, the park entry, the entitlement mentality of numerous business operators, etc.
It's mid-week and bucketing rain, hence the lack of crowds. This weekend the weather looks very nice and I expect it to be very busy!
I do remember reading that Falls visitor numbers were down this year though?
Shhhh!!! It’s the way i like it
Yep concur Monday was a great day up there! Spring skiing at its best!
Thursday 11.55pm: Mt Beauty has had 25mm in 24 hours.
The BOM rain gauge on the mountain isn't working. It's stayed at +2-3 C so far.
What is the state of the cover on the village roads? How is ski in/ski out?
Haven't been up there recently but yesterday there was an email saying they will be harvesting snow around the village to patch up worn areas.
When is the season closed....not charging to get past howmans??
I skiied it yesterday afternoon when it was chopped up at the end of the day, but there was still plenty of snow from Eagle chair to the ATS place
Vic resorts - HFB open to after school hols. 07/10.
Plenty of boot deep slush
Bit thin around the ATS terminal but its a PITA walking around at the moment due to the warmth
Warm today. 8 degrees light wind
Snow holding up very well and not too slushy
Kid 1 in daycare
Kid 2 in ski school
Mrs in coffee club
Leaving me to ski lap after lap of great snow
I hope I've misunderstood the notification that came out today from the lift co.
I think that what they are saying is that from today till the end of the season, gully chair will only run from 8:30am to 10:am and from 3:30pm to 5pm, ie they will not run it from 10am to 3:30pm.
Please someone tell me that I have completely misunderstood and that this scumbag act is not what is happening. this is a kick in the teeth to
daytrippers who come up a bit late, eg after dropping kids at school, or just waiting for off-piste to soften
non-skiers and shoppers who choose to use gully rather than wait forever for the shuttle
people who really don't like drag lifts but want to ski inter
And people who rely on gully for ski in/out who want to start late or go back to the lodge, eg for lunch or change of clothes
....and people who are staying somewhere on the mountain where Gully was their option for "ski down to the lift and not need to walk up a hill or catch a shuttle..."
Very inconvenient if true
Mrs No Mates said that too! I thought that was a bit OTT.
Can we move this into Brickbatts? If there's still snow on Inter/the Maze it'll be a long walk out.
I wanted to put it in brickbats but i thought I'd wait until i knew that i hadn't got the bull by the tits. don't know else to interpret the message though.
Also this is probably where people planning a September trip are most likely to see it
That's how I read it too.
Signs up everywhere about the reduced Gully hours this Monday to Friday
Would indicate full hours on the weekend
It's a ghost town up here
Looking up summit lift now
Weather is a bit meh
Foggy and moderate wind
Snow VERY forgiving today
Colder tonight and tomorrow will be better
Another late night at Astra may restrict the early start again
The boys there know how to make decent drinks....
New signs today
Gully running all day
10 cars in that carpark
good. makes sense.
people from cars in that carpark are not the only users of gully chair
of course the answer is to replace gully & inter with a detach chair that overlaps summit. it would be sad to see inter go but one lift would serve multiple purposes: fast access to the bowl for skiers and boarders, easy access to the bowl for walkers, service inter and the maze with a higher capacity, reliable lift
Today I skied the full Heathy Spur Loop on skinny skis.A full trip report with photos is coming soon.
By then it will be ribbon running and rock hopping.
Snuck up on the weekend for my first Falls Creek experience and it definitely didn’t disappoint!
First day was great conditions, blue skies with a bit of cloud here and there. Snow was soft, bumpy and slushy, which took me a bit to get used to! Favourite run was probably Sundown I think?
Second day was quite different, very low visibility up high at the top of lifts till about half way down where it became clear again. By now I had a feel for the layout of the resort so I had more fun this day. Highlight was getting to the top of Zipper at 2pm and seeing big moguls waiting for me, my first real experience with them, but top run for the day was Powderkeg
Will definitely be back!!
Yeah it offers a lot . I've been coming for 6 or more years and find there's still new possibilities.
International is on limited hours wed to fri now
9am to 12pm
It would be a slop bucket in the afternoon with very few wanting to use it so that's not too unreasonable if they have to economise somewhere
It definitely does, as I normally ski Buller it was great to discover how big and spread out this mountain is
A much better idea that's for sure
Falls Creek xc to Johnston's Hut today, excellent conditions overnight freeze , no wind ,nice snow a bit slow.
Hero snow into Rocky Valley creek and backside of Mt Nelse.
Ski in and ski out will need lots of work soon....
I think we are past the period when cars are barred, whether or not there is snow. Ski in / ski out is great but once it becomes too patchy or just disgusting slush, they are better off clearing it. makes life easier for most, especially budget conscious september skiers.
They want ski in and out as long as possible.
Many almost bare patches and the road showing in several places.
Colder overnight temps will help over the next week
The past week has been melt central
Boot deep slush galore
They certainly want it to the end of the period when ATS is guaranteed to run.
After that it's a balance between attractiveness of ski in/ski out, the effort to maintain it and the practical working of the village. Busineses need to be able to use tracked vehicles or normal wheeled vehicles. It's unworkable for them to have neither. With the trend to ATVs rather than skidoos, I suspect the tipping point may be moving towards road clearing - but that's just me speculating
Quick question RE gate entry. In previous years you could enter after a particular time in the afternoon for free if you were staying overnight (so essentially not pay gate entry for the first day of the trip). Is this still the case? I'm having trouble finding out on the Falls Creek website.
Not for overnight but parking is free between 5pm and midnight. You still need a pass for that though.
Great, thank you!
Nice spring skiing on lifts today after an overnight freeze, it was quite fast and not sloppy, sun, no wind ,no people, the cover excellent , the Summit was pretty good .
IIRC FCRM wander through the carparks at some ungodly hour to take down the rego numbers of the cars in the day parking and ticks them off when you go to resort management to pay the park entry fees.
Spion Kopje still looks XC skiable. If I wasn't going to India this Monday I would consider XC ski touring out past Warby Corner.
I think they have more people qualified to issue infringenent notices this season too.
Perhaps a special water feature could be considered at windy corner?
