This is a tough snow quality audience..... I've skied 4+ days every week since we've had snow and the Friday just gone is the only 'bad snow' day I've experienced. NB I've got a strong off piste preference but happy to lap good groomers if that's the pick.

but will the lift co actually groom anything around inter?

I don't like to see everything groomed but there should be a mix of groomers, small bumps and harder stuff on any day when the area is open. AIUI nothing on inter has had a groom yet this season despite there being plenty of snow.

even village has not had much attention

    Yep.

At 9.30ish this morning there was a solid queue at Halleys and none to speak of at Eagle.
I don't know how many peeps are going to use Gully then Eagle and then the sled when they want to get eg. to lessons outside of Cloud 9. Be quicker to walk.

lots of things pop into my head in response to this. in no particular order
    • people have to know about the trailer first. not that likely on day 1
    • school holidays are less likely to have complete beginners, more likely regular ski families
    • walking with beginner kids is not much fun
    • for people staying anywhere near the bowl, gully may not be required
    • eagle being a detachable plus the sherpa shuttle is a gamechanger. makes it a lot more viable for beginners to stay close to eagle rather than close to halleys

With the exception of getting your shit to your accomm, staying somewhere up the top of the village is better in every way IMO.

In a poor season with no ski in ski out, then being near Falls Express is very handy

Also good for the supermarket to be at that end

being near eagle will be just as handy, assuming download is permitted.

for rare trips to supermarket there is shuttle, gully and even walking

I arrived at lunchtime today. Longest lift queue would have been about 5 mins tops.
2 weeks ago I was one of about 5 cars in the day car park at Gully, today was absolutely packed and the overnight roadside parks were full.
Slow car turnouts were completely ignored up and down hill today but it still beats working. Be interested to see tomorrow how much grooming is done around summit.

I can definitely see the 6 year olds in our group wanting to take a ride on this in a couple of weeks when we are there in 2 weeks.

At least they are trying something.

Eagle capacity 2,400 per hour vs Shuttle Service 44 per hour (based on quoted 15 min round trip)...... I wouldn't want to be the person managing the priority of who the 44 people are between 9 and 10 in the morning.

you are missing something. yes you can ski across, but it'd be hard for somebody who's never skied before, which was kinda the point. The crowds are for people heading up for ski school.

Agreed Currawong. And maybe the Halley's load will move ever so slightly more efficiently with a few less beginners stumbling and bumbling through the one point.

will always be lots of stumbling beginners at Halleys. ski school & popularityor wombats will make sure of that.

i like to take beginners to playground/monkeybar. detachable eagle and possibility of using shuttle will make this much easier. but the majority of beginners will still live on wombats

It's a real shame the old playground isn't used for beginners any more. It's lovely and wide and such a gentle slope. Much better than both Drovers and Wombats. The trick is getting them there from the relocated ski school. But yes we take newbies there too.

outside peak ski school times you should be able to get that shuttle sled to take them over there. then when you are done, download on eagle (small walk to the top) or shuttle back to halleys, or hopefully ski back there

ski school is still at cloud 9. Many years ago it was in the bowl.

Since they got rid of the bowl ski school it has been a problem getting beginners to ski school if you are not staying near Halleys (aka Falls Express). You either had to get down to Halleys by walking, shuttle orlots of falls. Once you could ski (or board) a bit, you had the option of going up Eagle and then skiing across to Cloud 9. That was too daunting for beginners. Having a detachable eagle chair is part of the answer but it still leaves the problem of getting across the top. Ideally the top of the new chair would have been closer to cloud 9 but that was too difficult to get approval.

The shuttle is an attempt to cater for the least confident of the people trying to get to and from eagle

Another cracking day weather wise. There was the proposed grooming around Summit as indicated.
Didn't see too many venturing out wide from International, myself included. Low temps overnight would have kept it pretty solid and icy and didn't feel up for the challenge. Rolled around Ruined, Scotts, Towers, Summit.

the eagle shuttle stopped early yesterday and started late today - at least they sent notifications via the app.

Back when I worked on the hill that old magic carpet in the bowl was great for smaller people and beginners but much better for parents of aforesaid small people. Still makes sense in my opinion, gives the tadpoles a safer more sheltered place to learn in

At Falls, Halleys Comet, aka Falls Express is a detachable so you've probably ridden one without knowing the term
At the load and unload areas, the chair detaches from the main cable and goes onto a slower moving track. This makes it much easier for beginners, children, walkers etc to get on and off.
