You need to set up the credit card so that any young punk can not just tap and go. I had a few issues with CBA Visa and stopped overseas transactions and also any local tap and go transactions. Best of luck with getting your money back, this should be treated as theft, that's all it is!

I was saying that I managed to cancel it before anyone was able to use it, if found. All good.

Some humble pie to be eaten if a "young punk" finds the credit card that was lost, not stolen, and hands it in to the authorities or endeavours to get it back to the owner.

.....or more so if some old bastard finds it and tries to "load up" at Elk or Astra.

Hi.Two of my snow shoe buddies are now to be about to be learning to XC ski.Yes I have corrupted them.We will probably head out over the dam wall towards Watchbed creek at about eleven a.m.I have taken to wearing a cycling helmet on skis when I remember to put it on my head.We will go for a ski at Mt.Buffalo today on my BC XC skis and ski the lakeside route tomorrow on my skinny skis.I hope my friends can get the hang of this lark. They have downhill skied before so it is just about getting the XC ski basics that matters.

Exercise in getting wet today.... Scotts and Ruined did not open until late morning so there were squillions of people riding towers, longest queues I have even seen. 15-20 minute wait for two minutes skiing in the r**n was not much fun in the greater scheme of things. Went out for a bit of XC after an early lunch and even that was not particularly pleasant with poor visibility, wet snow and more r**n. Oh well still beats being at work I guess.

Needs to get way colder and get some fresh snow on top or it will be boiler plate if it freezes or soup if it doesn't. Either way not much fun for the convalescing.

    So two questions ...
    How reliable are the forecasts?
How windy does it have to be for windholds? (and on which chairs?)

Re 1., the timing and intensity seem to me to vary often from this far out but not the gross picture, and conditions often vary during the day so if you're staying the mountain you can pop out and in like a meerkat.
Re 2, others here are more knowledgeable than me. I can say that the new Eagle seems to have been put on hold surprisingly often this season and wonder whether that's part of the shake down process.

I would go if I was you NJB , it could be the best week of the season if you like fresh snow .
If you like still conditions and sunshine not so great but Thursday Friday should be OK vis.
At least not rain. As Ziggy says nanny stateness dictates that they put lifts on windhold more than ever but a lot of Falls is OK in NW winds other directions can be a problem.
International Poma and Summit are OK in the wind. Just my opinion.

Thanks for your thoughts Ziggy. I was going by a number of sources (BoM, Jane Bunn, MountainWatch & Snowatch). Wind from a comfort perspective is not my main concern - just lift wind hold and the drive up & down \ parking. Strong winds are forecast.

I'm leaning towards using the Falls Creek Coach Service to avoid the second issue (and save $70 apparently) - 'spose I'll get over the first as long as a choice of lifts are running during the majority of the breezy periods.

I lost half over half a day at Buller last year on a day trip when virtually no lifts were running except Blue Bullet and that sucked! (respect the safety standards - it just sucked for enjoyment)

The reports are predicting NW winds which I assume would affect Summit \ Eagle \ Ruined Castle & Scotts the most?

*Edit - missed your response when I was typing rowdyflat - thx to you also. You're probably right - just being a negative nellie as I have been suffering from a lack of sleep due to having a 2.5 year old with bad sleeping habits that he likes to share with his parents. So from that perspective (as I am being a considerate husband and leaving the wife and nutter at home) at least I'll get some sleep

Drive up + down is OK if you have some sort of 4WD,totally sheltered otherwise chains will be required .

I gather one of the problems is unloading into a northish wind so Ruined and Scotts are vulnerable.

I went up to XC Ski at Falls today. The sun came out but the snow was very soft and sludgy. The wind over the dam wall was fierce. My friends and I skied up Roper 's aquaduct and back to Very Windy corner.I did a perfect S shaped turn coming down from then dam wall aquaduct into the Nordic bowl.I skied on skinny skis and did not crash once.:)

The dogs were not wearing skis or snowshoes and they chopped up the approach to the Nordic Bowl today.I did not see much sign of grooming the BHP road from Windy Corner to The Nordic Bowl.

Just looked at forecasts on weatherzone. Wind forecasts don't look too bad, but then they address not that reliable either way.

Thunderstorms could close all lifts on monday if they eventuate, but usually that isn't for very long.

My rule of thumb is that 30kts closes just about everything. That sort of wind is not forecast. As @Ziggy said, getting off a chair into a headwind gets very difficult. Ruined and summit especially vulnerable. Scott's is pretty unpleasant when it's windy so most people give up on it before it closes. It's not that unusal for everything to be on windhold but not often 2 days running.

Driving up to falls in bad weather isn't actually that bad. The road is pretty sheltered. Chains and careful driving should make it ok, albeit a bit slow. There can be trees down or landslips but these rarely cause very long delays.

I went up from Windy Corner to the Nordic bowl at about 10:00 and at that stage it was fine - so it wasn’t the dogs - just MANY XC Skiers and softening conditions.

The groomer was out - encountered it just finishing the run just below the dam wall.

Has been snowing steadily all morning. Several cm so far on top of a very icy base. Only Scotts and ruined castle on wind hold.

The XC loop in Sun Valley was a day spa this morning. An invigorating cold bath, a massage from the pummeling wind and a hail-powered dermabrasion. And all for free.
On-piste the hail was trying to pass as sago snow with a little success. The vis wasn't the worst, the wind wasn't the worst and the cover wasn't the worst either.

The poor driving mayhem continued yesterday....

On the way up there was about 1-2 cm of haily snow of the road, two cars into bank on corners coming down. Most likely going too fast.

On the way down, few cm of fresh and road bladed, two 4WD corner head to head on road corner. Most likely downhill vehicle going too fast and sliding wide into uphill lane.

Slow down people! I went up and down, sensible steady speed, no heavy brakes, no slipping, no problems..... and a 'Snowtyres' recommended skid test totally not needed.
