I hear that! Why don't they say day trip visitors to use bus services instead??

MM: Not confined to FC either.

Perisher, Thredbo and the ski tube carpark are all at capacity and closed.

OK. Run a shuttle from the bridge. Or have a green jacket at the stop just above Mt Beauty organising car pooling.
Jaysus, if I'd driven an hour or two and got turned away, guess how much goodwill the resort would retain in my mind.

I know about the park and ride service, but I stumbled across the info quite by accident.

I'm not sure how it could be better promoted but it seems good value compared to a single day resort entry ticket.

Yes, I've used it as part of a group going out to the Rover Chalet and it's way more relaxing than battling incompetent chain fitting practices or Windy Cnr access that's one lane wide.

And probably a better use of the effort of getting up at stupid o'clock.

Well I guess partly because people look a the prices for the bus and cannot see the value, I know I can't. Given the crowds they could be running a bus every 10 minutes AM and PM and making some extra profit for short time

After time in NZ I kinda got used to parking miles away and getting a free shuttle to the resort. Mt Hutt top car park would be full for 9am every weekend not just peak season powder days....same at Remarks and Coronet. Wouldn't hurt for Falls to run a bus picking people up from Howmans, the bridge or car park bottom of Bogong village. They would loose out on resort entry fees but could have another couple of hundred people on the hill.
saying that, Im quite happy working weekends and taking advantage of the mid week solitude

You’d be pissed if you’d prepaid your day pass online.

That should get you a spot set aside for the day. Not necessarily a specific spot, but at least a spot reserved for you.

Would also be good if season pass holders could "book" online to say that they are coming up - maybe if there was a penalty of some form for a no-show, just so people don't reserve a spot for both Hotham and Falls etc.

I left Tawonga for Albury at 0530 this morning and was amazed at the traffic coming down Kiewa Valley Highway at that time, Seems the Albury/Wodonga season pass crew are now setting off at 6 to make use of the early lifts.

Yes, could hear it in Mt B.
But yesterday at 6.45 starting up it was pretty quiet.

How stupid have Falls and Hotham been to sell off car parking space for real estate ?

Again this morning and when we left, if the BMW’s moved over, there would have been an extra 3 or 4 spots.

bus fares include an amount for resort entry so no loss there.
the day car parks have been full on hoppet day (4th sat in aug) for some years but more recently it has happened on other weekend days too, especially Saturdays. they really need to work with falls creek coaches or other bus companies to be able to respond quickly with extra services and publicise them effectively. maybe even subsidise them.

there used to be a season pass that excluded saturdays. it disappeared with the introduction of hero passes but maybe they need to consider bringing it back. personally I rarely ski saturdays because the crowds shit me. skiing mid week is just so much nicer.

Excluding Saturday’s would no longer make it a season pass, not everyone can ski mid week. Only works for locals and retirees

it was a choice. you could buy a full season pass or a no saturdays season pass. I always bought the full pass but lots of locals bought the no saturdays one.

They've oversold their service, just like airlines might do. I can understand why, but turning people away full stop is arrogance, complacency or stupidity - tick one or more.

I would think Soza's suggestion of a bus shuttling from the Orange Bridge or Howmans could work well.

Not that much extra parking at the orange bridge. I guess the mt beauty bus could do pick ups from there too.

They already use Howmans for parking when necessary, and pick you up in the shuttle vans. Extra capacity might be good

At Hotham a few people told me that the road from Harrietville was closed due to a fallen tree, so lots of people were going to Falls Creek instead. Hotham was definitely not very busy today.

Lovely day up at Falls yesterday.

Great to bump into @Ziggy and also meet @dossa5 at Windy Corner round lunchtime.

More than double the snow from a week ago, and good cover all round, with back country cover nicely consolidated.

The snow was firmer than anticipated so I retired the DPS Wailers (112 underfoot) at morning teatime and went back to my stiff and narrow K2 Apaches for the rest of the day.

The snow was very forgiving and Father Fosters, Ruined Castle, Scottys and Corkscrew Gully especially fast and easy to ski.

Summit and the Y’s were less forgiving but still great fun.

Lots of happy people on the mountain- still busy even though a Monday.

    Lots of folks from Interstate.

Seems like the snow chain monitoring team had a sleep in after the weekend.

Even with ice on the road no-one was actively monitoring the road and it was icy from near Nursery, it was only AWD Chain fitting recommended, and chains on from the gate, rather than before.

Great to meet you too again @Chaeron and your youngster.

Yes, these dumps came through just in time.

Rapunzels was my pick - sufficiently roughed up that it was pointless trying to pick where to turn; it was best to leave it just to the rhythm.

I’ve never skied down Rapunzels as fast as yesterday - forgiving soft snow and lovely lines from the very top - would have loved to do it on teles, but as fun bombing down it on my old K2 Apaches.

Starting on high along the lift line straight down - that was forgiving and easy and fast.

Under Sun Valley had more unconsolidated tracked through refreeze in the lower half, and harder iced up stuff higher up. Still fun, but less fast.

Britt Cox’s cut-through was awesome, especially if you took a higher line into Rapunzels coming across the ridge - some pocketx still of windblown or untracked.

Lakeside Poma wasn’t running - unimpressed!

I liked when they used to groom a different maze run each day. You could find a groomed one or a lighlty bumped one or a mongrel, depending on what you wanted.

I found it frustrating. At 7.30am the website had Lakeside Poma due to open, at 9.30 it wasn't. The website had it on standby. There was no-one standing by.
Up high it was crunchy on piste and crusty off. Vis variable but usually required commitment. I ended up just practising on easy runs.

Had to fit chains to my 2WD about 8:30pm Sunday night!
just below turnback creek? (is that right? i'm not sure on the names)
probably could have made it a bit further, but i definitely needed some higher up.

A wonderful 2 days touring around and out of falls.
here is a little vid of my day on Monday..

Tues is on the same channel if your interested!

Highlight of the trip was probably the run down the back of rocky knolls, suberb quality snow,
    if not quite steep enough!
I really want to get stuck into the steeper south face of Mckay, but Monday wasn't ideal conditions,
and i was splitting by myself, so exploration over adventure - also not too keen on boot packing out by myself!

I forgot how nice it is to stay in a proper alpine village.
Met some lovely people along the way, including someone who was nice enough to lend me a spare screw from my spark bindings! ( will be returning it this week :)
