Close but no cigar. The one you speak of does have a computer but he calls it a confuser. He types about 3 words a minute and would not keep up on a forum. I am also leaning heavily to BHP staying closed now after seeing the latest predictions for next week.

Looks like a bluebird day, pity I won’t have any skis to get around when I get there later.

When are they going to close the internal roads, still pegged for the start of the season or will they stop road clearing now?

    as above
my guess is that they would probably clear till the official start of oversnow ops (~school hols?) but not allow private vehicles while it is icey

XC grooming. From the Falls Creel xc Facebook page.
"Grooming Update - with the recent snowfall there is definitely enough snow for some great skiing. However, Falls Creek is unlikely to start grooming until sometime next week. There are a couple of reasons for this:
    1. We are waiting for a couple of parts for the tiller of the groomer; and
    2. There is the annual Ice Plunge this weekend (everyone welcome, 10am Saturday) at Rocky Valley Foreshore. Therefore we will need to clear the road out there to provide access. However, the clearers will push the snow in a windrow then put it back on the road after the event is over so we can use it as a base to start grooming.
There is more snow coming next week so keep posted and we will let you know ASAP when we are ready to get the big machine out there. In the meantime, the grooming team will likely machine pack some trails, which will make skiing a bit rough but is a perfect preparation for upcoming grooming.
As always, please be patient at this time of the year. We will be skiing soon but it is always a bit frustrating when we want to get out for the first track ski when the groomers are still getting set up. I'm sure we will be out there soon..."

Email from Falls re road conditions:

Current forecasts are showing a strengthening cold front arriving Sunday/Monday with 20 - 40cm of accumulation possible.

If this eventuates we will revert to full oversnow operation of the village with a view to establishing ski-in/out conditions for opening weekend and beyond if possible.

Therefore, please make preparations to remove ALL WHEELED VEHICLES from the village by midnight Saturday 1st June 2019. FCRM and 4Site will be assisting this process in the coming days - your co-operation is greatly appreciated.

Reminder that Red Pass parking is in Lower Slalom Carpark as signed. Staff (Purple) and Resident (Blue) Passes must only park in Lower Windy Carpark per previous years. Please do not park in day parking areas.

Should you require any further information, please contact the FCRM office on (03) 5758 1200 during office hours.

Nah It was a long running arguement with management when I lived on the mountain. They duck shoved us all from a spot where we could get out quickly if we had a family emergency to the very rear of the lower carpark. I had a family emergency and the car park hadn'r been plowed and it took an hour to get my truck out. My daughter had been in a huge car crash in Melbourne and I had to be there and fast to give blood. I'm still angry about it and it's been a dozen years. Management think residents are not important enough to give even a little priority to things like fast egress

i assume they don't do their planning on the off chance of a family emergency happening - as tragic as that can be

I am sorry it is not Falls but it is not far away. Spent half a day on Mt. Wills and from there you can get a good look at Nelse and Bogong. Good coverage on both but can't speak as to depth. You could ski up from the gate at Wills but not deep enough to ski all the way down. Limited coverage and really only the road available. Another 30 or 40 cm would do nice but plenty of rock showing ATM. The snow was next to perfect and very fast so I would assume the same at Falls. Wills is 1700m but may not always get the same amount as Falls Creek and BHP. It may be some kind of indication for you.

Does this (No.2.) mean the snow will be removed rom the BHP road from Windy Corner up to the Dam wall and beyond? I am planning to XC ski out that way on Sunday. Will this impinge upon my plans to ski out to Watch bed Creek ?
Perhaps if it does impinge on XC skiing up there then maybe boot packing it up to the Pretty Valley road turn off and then XC skiing over to the Pretty Valley Hut and back could be a good plan B?

it will mean that the bhp road will be cleared most of the way to the dam wall. probably to the dunnies I guess. i can't imagine then going over the dam wall. the ice plunge takes place at the boat ramp area within the resort (below ANARE shed)
you could try going up wombats to the aqueduct and then through the nordic bowl to the dam wall

Hello Everyone, getting excited for the season! Does anyone have any guesses as to what lifts will be turning on opening weekend? Also by extension, which runs would have coverage to be skiable?

Trying to puzzle out whether its worth heading up for a couple days. (Its not a short drive)

    Thanks!

My uneducated guess is Falls Creek Express, Carpets, Eagle, Towers, Scots and Ruined. Doesn't look like enough snow for summit yet.

Amount of snow is not the only criterion. Probably not many staff. may not be enough ski patrol. Or just plain old not economic.
Sometimes they open summit asap for marketing reasons but say conditions are only suitable for experts

Bluebird above the village today. Had a nice ski on the light touring skis out to Heathy Spur. The snow has consolidated nicely on the heath. This pic as we were passing through the Nordic Bowl.

Signs at Howmans Gap directed to fit chains to 2 wheel drive. Similar sign at the Village for downhill traffic. Not a skerrick of snow on the road. Question. How far past the fit chains signs do you have to go before you can remove them?

    On the way out?
You'll have seen it in the am so if it hasn't snowed as soon as you want and to hell with the sign.
Running on bitumen wears the chains, reduces grip and can overheat the tyres.

I am not sure they are allowed to under current legislation even if they want to. The ski season is a predetermined gazetted period.

Being directed to fit chains on black road has become the norm for Falls Creek over recent years.

Its to stop them sliding off the day car parks!

I saw them chocking sliding vehicles last year on black ice
