I'll be spending as much as possible in Bright and surrounds, to help the community rebound from the current events
As a new member of a lodge @ falls in 2020, i hope to better my 2 days form last year. However arrival of Bub #3 in July might influence that
1 bedroom apts hard to find for hoppet week, already? Or maybe businesses at FC are in watch and act mode at the moment.
We are booked in for 2 weeks in August and are bringing 4 other families to celebrate a big birthday. Can't wait!
Back problems kept me off the slopes last year, but they should be cleared up for this season, and a well timed redundancy (it's a good thing) will see me with some cash and free time hitting in July...
Depending upon circumstances, I'd love to get up to Falls this year. I've already committed to a week in Perisher, but also looking at a trip to Falls or Hotham sans sproglet. Like @PiedPiper we are expecting a new family member (in mid-May), so any snow trips will be solo or with friends, other than the Perisher trip which is me + Mr 4.
With the power down a couple of days ago I fired up the lap top and made a season edit of all the footage from last season. I tend to grab a few clips every day we go out and really enjoyed looking back when putting this together. Some great days were had and I can't wait for winter again....only 4 months to go!
Hope to be up for 8-12 weeks. We've had such good seasons recently I'm adjusting expectations downwards. And hoping there's no black cover beforehand.
From Vail co Peter at Perisher Given the challenges we face with COVID-19, we will be delaying the final payment date for your Epic Australia Pass from 1 May to 1 June 2020.
I have heard that if the season is touch and go that they will wait up to as late as 1 June to announce it. This aligns with the above statement. Also heard one scenario that is being planned for is a delayed season start of 1st July.
a few clubs I'm aware of have cancelled working bees, including not receiving any firewood. it's the only rationale call at this stage but we'll all look stupid if by some miracle we can open but then and outs a good season. at this stage AIUI the peak is predicted in June. hard to see season starting in july
The accom I have booked has free cancellation and refunds til season opening on the Queens Bday. Guess I'll sit back and wait til then...
Looks like Falls Creek got a delivery of 6 new fan guns! Looks like they will be tower mounted. Anyone know where they will be installed?
There’s heaps of areas that could benefit - Sun Valley is a pretty big piste by Aussie standards. my experience at GF w/e this year was that the snow thinned a lot where most runs flattened before the bottom stations. But that’s end of season. Mid winter there’s probably a lot of runs with inadequate spacings of towers. check Concrete Peak M1 run etc. towers every 40-50m. Blitzing the cover on a cold night! The way for Oz to go if there’s infinite water - as per Falls!
From snowsbest.com, March 17 ... Stuart Smythe, CEO of Falls Creek Resort Management Board revealed that “various scenarios are currently being considered. The resort is following the directions and action plans as outlined by the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services.” According to Smythe, who says coronavirus is a double whammy after the bushfires for resort operators, the planning team are undertaking scenario analysis looking at: ‘Best Case’, it’s business as usual, in that resorts open as per planned on June 8th. ‘Worst Case’, season 2020 doesn’t happen. ‘Delayed Case’, resorts open but the season is delayed and ‘Closing Early’ – contingent on when the season starts and what the snow is like to ensure business sustainability.
Email from FCRM Easter is normally a thriving weekend at Falls Creek but this year life is far from normal. This weekend we would like to remind you that visiting Falls Creek is non-essential travel and we ask everybody to respect this government directive. Please note, the village is only open and accessible to full time residents of Falls Creek. Parks Victoria announced today the further closure of national parks, including the Alpine National Park in which Falls Creek is located. Everything you love about visiting us at Falls Creek will be here for your next summer adventure. We look forward to seeing you then, but for now, stay home and stay safe. Wishing you a Happy Easter. Kind Regards, Falls Creek Resort Management
Seems being unable to afford a ski pass and parking for this year was fortuitous Sorry fellers [ and fellerettes] I guess it's my fault
A poorly worded email from Falls Creek Resort Management? Or deliberate? I've never been to Falls November-May. "Everything you love about visiting us at Falls Creek will be here for your next summer adventure. We look forward to seeing you then, but for now, stay home and stay safe."
Yep it’s over red rover for winter this year, I shouldn’t purchased that new ski jacket and pants, I reckon 6 months in isolation and I’ll be 4 sizes larger !!
Cmon lass! Hit those trails! Get on the bike / ex bike!! Just watch an old Warren Miller (or other ski video) and the exercise bike is a lot more bearable!! Chuck your fav skis in corner of lounge as incentive!!
I'm hoping it is just poorly worded. Hoping it is just that in their mind it is binary - no snow on the ground = summer (mtb etc). really hoping to be able to get up in late July. Maybe I'm just kidding myself ☹
Living in Queensland it may be harder for some unless the states open their borders and the planes start flying again , Lots if ducks have to get in a row this year for it to happen !
They recently asked folk not to come. And anyway the bakery closed so no more curried camel pies. That's the end AFAIC!
FCRM have told clubs not to hold working bees. makes it tough to open in winter if they haven't been able to do any preparation before the snow falls. not saying they were wrong to do that. our club cancelled the working bee before they said that anyway
