    Clearing roads for bc may not be viable, although i think resort residents will have to be looked after. once it gets to the point of being viable to open a resort from a health perspective then i think the economic benefit would have them clearing in a flash. Ski industry is a pretty significant contributor to state economy in Vic.

    Yep.
    I expect Vail is waiting till June 1 to make the announcement as the infection trend will be clearer.
    But the govt and CHO will be making the decision for all the resorts at a guess, assuming of course we're no longer in Stage 3 lockdown or worse.
    Contagion among XC skiers will naturally be lower and we should be given early access :D. Falls Ck XC could run day tours out to the Rover Chalet to use the rope tow as the scouts won't be out there. I reckon a portable rope tow on McKay would be neat too.

    Would you not need to keep resort areas open for maintenance - Lodges need heating to prevent pipes from bursting, sewerage treatment systems will need to be maintained etc etc. It might be one road clearance in the am and another in the pm perhaps?
    I also thought some of the road clearance folk around Perisher were contractors and are called up on a needs basis - they still need an income and perhaps they are on some sort of retainer???? Bound to be a few people on this forum who know people? What are the average number of days per season that require road clearance?

    Well, I'm preparing for a season by translating a specialised gym routine to one that can be done around the house.
    I've invented a leg extension setup that will keep the knees strong and might get me 5 viewers on YouTube. Step ups/downs with a pack is a no brainer. The physio gave me a resistance band that can simulate dead lifts. Split lunges are no problem.
    Shoulder work needs some more invention.

    Falls Creek had 138 millimetres of rain between 9am on Tuesday and 2.30pm on Wednesday, with a weather warning in place for the rest of the day. Wednesday's highest wind gust was 124km/h at Falls Creek.

    They must be due for a power outage with wind speeds like that.

    Surely at a minimum XC would be allowed to go ahead?

    Could the resort prevent people from doing back-country?

    Vic traffic/Vic roads web site reports that the BHP road is closed from Falls Creek to Trap Yard gap due to snow on the road.

    The best XC terrain is actually within the Alpine nat. park. at places such as Pretty Valley and Fitzgerald's hut. The resort has little say over what happens there even if they do usually groom access trails for Nordic skiing.

    the national park could be closed
    the resort could be closed or entry restricted, preventing anyone from driving past howman's

    imho the biggest problem facing xc and back country is how it could be permitted without a gazillion snow play people coming too. the resort is required by gov to be accessible to the broad community, not just the traditional ski demographic

    If we are allowed out of Melb. soon then doing supply drops at places such as : Bogong jack Saddle as a day hike from Big Hill Lookout ;Pretty valley Hut; Faithful's Hut for a Trap Yard Gap mission if the BHP rd. reopens at F.C. could be wise investments for BC plank action .
    I know it is a huge trek to reach Roper's hut from Clover arboretum via Bogong Creek tramway , Big River fire trail and Timm's spur but how could PV stop serious BC skiers going up that way to set up for a multi nighter in early Spring?.
    With a , map , compass and a GPS finding Roper's hut even in a white out once you leave the tree line on Timm's spur would be relatively achievable.

    Yep.
    Some resort facilities maintenance, some extra snow clearing and perhaps some grooming would need to be done - without an income and without concentrating staff.
    Maybe they'd consider it for some weekends.

    To ski or board at Falls you need lift tickets, resort entry and possibly accommodation, all of which are in limited supply. So which order do you get them in

    This quote is from Falls Creek Resort Management webpage

    To avoid disappointment, we recommend you follow this sequence;
    1. Ensure you have purchased (online) your lift ticket from Falls Creek Ski Lifts or have an Epic Pass, guaranteeing you ski lift access on the days you’re in resort;
    2. Book your accommodation (if staying overnight);
    3. Then, head to the Resort Entry page on our website to purchase and print your Resort Entry Vehicle Pass. Please provide all the details necessary then print it off as proof to place on your dashboard before departing home.

    who said that?

    I'm just passing on resort management advice.
    AIUI if you have booked on mountain accom you will be allowed to buy a resort entry pass. So my take is that they are advising you to buy the scarcest resource first.

    I'm just wondering if anyone has more information.

    It's likely there are going to be people who cannot secure accommodation after committing to a lift ticket.

    A Muppet newsflash !

    "Hi Falls Creek Cross Country Skiers
    Great news, Falls Creek XC and the Windy Corner Cafe will be operating this season. As soon as there is snow on the ground we will be up and going, offering ski hire, ski school, great coffee and food.
    Things may be a little different than usual but our enthusiasm for all things nordic is unchanged. Stay tuned for updates here or contact us at fallscreekxc@ymca.org.au

    They changed refund terms this year, so full lift ticket refund as long as you notify them at least one week in advance.

    At which point its a question of who blinks - the person with the lift pass, or the one with accommodation booked? :D

    See step 4 - if you have a lift ticket then you can get resort entry
