Can confirm worst conditions I’ve ever seen up here for 25 July.
Makes it easier to accept that we can’t ski it.
(Unless we’re prepared to hike up top for 1 ski down. There’s a small few doing this. )
I think it was 2017.While we are fantasizing .One I do remember was about 2016.
A fall, then 40 cm overnight in one dump, skiing the skiers left of Lakeside on heliskis then off piste Ruined castle was amazing.
Another was first tracks down Ruined after the lift had been closed for a week cos the cornice was too close to the chairs so they had to bulldoze it woooohoooo.
The snow cameras look bleeding depressing.I came up the valley today with a view from Bogong around to the Fainters. The cover looked smashed compared with the same view on Friday.
Falls weather station recorded 22mm of rain up to 9am today.

Snow making would come under the list of tasks Vail Resorts would undertake for ski lift skiing, would they not?. Hence no lifts =no snow making. XC skiers can do a snow dance and talk to the hand of fate.Falls front valley faces the wrong direction (north) - which doesn’t help the look of the village in lean times.
A saving grace; the summit lift has a more easterly aspect - small mercies. But the Summit area desperately needs some snowmaking - unfortunately that seems to be permanently off the table as ‘only green and blue riders go to Falls’.

Falls/BHP is my favourite place to Nordic ski..... if there is snow and we are not in another bleeding lockdown.
No FOMO while in Lockdown is one positive aspect to this matter I suppose.Hopefully the natural snow will kick in T otherwise this could go down as the worst winter in 30 years - for Nordic and downhill.
As for the summit chair area - Falls used to have SM higher up but for whatever reason (money / Maintenance?) it has ceased to be. So it is a Vail issue - but a long-term not a Covid/2020 thing. It will probably still be an issue in another 20 or 30 years?
Don't worry about it, it is what it is.No FOMO while in Lockdown is one positive aspect to this matter I suppose.
Ms. Bunn's modelling snows no real sign of snow in the next ten days. There is no base and no snow coming. It is the worst I have seen it in my days as a snow sports enthusiast/ participant.
