The later the better for us detainees in leper town.
Seems to me that it's mostly about protecting other people if you are infected. Yes, you should be isolating if you are sick, but since there is a period of possible asymptomatic transmission, that needs to be considered also.
FC Coaches called me yesterday with a refund for my mid-August bus ride. Thought it was good of them to call customers once they decided to cancel services (at least until further notice) - they are still doing private transfers however.
For a little diversion ... a pic of Bogong from Tawonga Gap taken early on this day in 2011.
Ain’t she bute
Sunset, just one week ago.
A lot has changed in a week.
Bogong not in that pic.....
That's Gateway and Gebi's at Falls Creek, don't know what they're called these days.
It's Spion Kopje on the right side of the pic.
Can't see Mt Bogong at all.
Yep, sorry Rick Ross - my comment about a lot changing was about lifts running and resort open last week but closed now.
Probably could have signaled that better!
Haha all good buds
Can confirm worst conditions I’ve ever seen up here for 25 July.
Makes it easier to accept that we can’t ski it.
(Unless we’re prepared to hike up top for 1 ski down. There’s a small few doing this. )
Short video. Does it work?
Summit and tube park.
Looks like mid-late October!
From the FB page of This Week in Falls Creek and Mt Beauty...
Yes it works. Yes it looks like October !!
Downloaded and played just fine. Shows the slush very well
Melting slush :-(
Lack of grooming after the recent snowfalls would surely have expedited the decline.
Raining when we left today.
We had a nice relaxing stay all the same and grateful for a short trip away from home.
Something currently denied to our metro counterparts.
Thanks alpineapartmentsfallscreek, Huski Kitchen, Last Hoot, Elk at Falls, Stringray and Snownuts for great hospitality, food, coffee and donuts.
XC ski report looks grim to shite.
On this day in 2017...
Shows how good the last few years have been and how bad 2020 is?
Bad so far.
I recall three 'powder' days last year and one the year before, and I wasn't up immediately after every dump.
We got a number powder days in 2018, more than we got last year. The first one was 16th June. Last year, we got a nice dump on the 10th August.
10th last year was one to remember!
Prolly was there I forget.
While we are fantasizing .One I do remember was about 2016.
A fall, then 40 cm overnight in one dump, skiing the skiers left of Lakeside on heliskis then off piste Ruined castle was amazing.
Another was first tracks down Ruined after the lift had been closed for a week cos the cornice was too close to the chairs so they had to bulldoze it woooohoooo.
The weather will have to crack in august.
Frog reckons he has the insider information that SAM is going negative .
I think it was 2017.
Skiing off Heathy Spur ,heading for Edmondson's hut early -mid September 2019. Good times
My wife dislocated her arm on the 9th, so we were trying to figure out how to leave from Snowy Gums in Smiggins in the middle of it all!
I came up the valley today with a view from Bogong around to the Fainters. The cover looked smashed compared with the same view on Friday.
Falls weather station recorded 22mm of rain up to 9am today.
The snow cameras look bleeding depressing.
The XC ski report for today at Falls Ck. is ranging from pre rockhopper to shite to grim to no snow.
Falls front valley faces the wrong direction (north) - which doesn’t help the look of the village in lean times.
A saving grace; the summit lift has a more easterly aspect - small mercies. But the Summit area desperately needs some snowmaking - unfortunately that seems to be permanently off the table as ‘only green and blue riders go to Falls’.
Snow making would come under the list of tasks Vail Resorts would undertake for ski lift skiing, would they not?. Hence no lifts =no snow making. XC skiers can do a snow dance and talk to the hand of fate.
Falls/BHP is my favourite place to Nordic ski..... if there is snow and we are not in another bleeding lockdown.
Hopefully the natural snow will kick in T otherwise this could go down as the worst winter in 30 years - for Nordic and downhill.
As for the summit chair area - Falls used to have SM higher up but for whatever reason (money / Maintenance?) it has ceased to be. So it is a Vail issue - but a long-term not a Covid/2020 thing. It will probably still be an issue in another 20 or 30 years?
No FOMO while in Lockdown is one positive aspect to this matter I suppose.
Ms. Bunn's modelling snows no real sign of snow in the next ten days. There is no base and no snow coming. It is the worst I have seen it in my days as a snow sports enthusiast/ participant.
Skied to the stockyards at PV this morning. Bluebird day.
Snow starts about half way up Wombats and was very good on PV road down to the yards. East of Wombats the PV road is skiable to the gate.
Don't worry about it, it is what it is.
Do something else, I go Sambar deer hunting just up the road from my place.
BOM reckons snow is possible on Monday.
There's skiable snow out there. Think of it as late spring.
The best of possible worlds.... so I’m going rollerblading....
Enjoy @Ziggy - how are those new Annums of yours?
Waiting for the bindings to be mounted Chaeron. Shims have to come from the US for the Safe Outs to work.
Expecting base perils, I went out on my beaters - Fischer Outbound Crowns, that started life in Gebi's hire and graduated to Windy Cnr hire before joining their clear out in '18.
Hey, Z, great you got out there. But where, pray tell is that photo posted today? Can't quite work it out, despite the clues, chair lift on right, groomed trail etc. Sun Valley, but where? Base of Drover's, before PV road turn-off?
Chris, it's looking down PV road at Ruined Castle chair with what the resort calls Rocky Knolls behind.
Got it! Now I see it, thanks. Hoping to get up there in August, but cannot be certain. Fingers crossed for next week. Enjoy!
Pic says it all, today 2017
