Nothing really changed at Falls in regards to lift stops, haven’t ridden a chair without a stop all morning o_O

Was some precipitation overnight which made “off the groomers” crusty, but the groomers first thing were pure.

First tracks down St Elmo’s was fun, a couple tumbles to keep us checked in.

Tacos and meatball sub at Milch were super

Knees already crying in pain due to 2 years off due to a certain pandemic

Sunday
nice little dusting overnight
Not many on the hill
Day started cloudy, finished with a sunny afternoon.
Day ended for our sore bodies around 2pm.
Today much needed rest day.
Great weekend, good vibes around the mountain, lots of smiles, Great to be back in the hills.
A last minute snack while catching up with an old school friend, 2 sth melb dim sims, 1 potato cake and a can of red Bull…not sure what’s worse, my choice in snack or the $22 handed over. Rookie mistake :crap::confused:

You can always get an extended rest by sitting on both the Gully and Summit chairs…

This does happen occasionally TBH but it takes too bloody long… yes I’m a bit picky :ski: anyway who’s got some nice pics from over there to share?

Had a nice few runs this morning before calling it a day to head home and dry off.
Nice to have some snow falling above 1600 and only a hand full of others sharing the slopes.
Love mid week ❄️ at Falls

I will be skiing the lifts there on Monday and touring the Bogong High plains on Tuesday next week.

Falls 26/6 - 30/6. Having never skied during school holidays I expected chaos at lifts but with kids in tow, I was resigned to spending long time waiting and standing around. But short of the morning 5minute queue at Halleys Comet it was fairly quiet at the back. Most of the crowds seem to be at the snowsport/cloud 9 area, that is pure chaos. It seems though that at least 50% of them are skiing the 2-3 carpets at the top.

Despite rain/sleet on our arrival weather cleared up for the next 3 days and runs skied surprisingly well. Mid-winter conditions as far as I could tell. But getting warmer as we left the snow melt was obvious around the lake. So it may not last unless we get more snow.

Yes the Lake level snow is melting. The terrain near Mt. Mckay was good to XC ski on earlier this week during the last week of June.

Fog has lifted, sun is out, snow is firm. Playing on Father Fosters on the Head slalom skis - such fun!

Father fosters is my favourite run at Falls. some hate it as it is off camber but the fall line actually favours my stronger turn side. Its steep enough for me to be challenging but wide enough that I can get myself back in shape before needing to turn again (unlike Scott's...)

I had the pleasure of sharing the Scottys Chair with the Three Amigos from the podcast Those Tele Guys.

Great to see them so elegantly drop the knee inbounds here at Falls.

Today was great.
Started off with that low cloud, was interesting mid run getting that ice build up on your goggles off. Visibility was between 30 to 50 metres and the groomers were mint
Cloud lifted and we made our way over to the summit area, the “sugar” was fun to throw around.
Garmin watch tracked me for 25km+, spent most time around Scotts area.Towers first thing was Excellent, Lakeside poma was chockers all day. Summit load was only letting 2 people as the gate was not working.
Excellent drive up, cars using the slow lane option, drive off was just as good.
Was told EPIC pass holders as previous years were eligible to load at 8am, not the case according to the red jackets, we did load around 8.20am on Express, with a short wait at cloud 9 off load.
Fun day

Yes that ice coating in the fog was interesting, not experienced that before.
Fun day and nice to have some sunshine. Think my last 5 days have had poor vis so today was a refreshing change. I was last up Wednesday night for a night board. Never seen so many people, 45 minute wait to get on Hayleys! I managed 2 runs and that was me done. Luckily today with plenty of terrain open it never felt too crowded.
Although i wish we had a bit more grooming around summit, I imagine we need a bit more snow first but can't be far off.
Certainly the busiest I have ever seen the place. Day parking seems to fill up quick on weekends as expected but even midweek it gives a good indication that a lot more people are staying off mountain than previous years.

My goggles and jacket were coated in ice in the cloud this morning as well!
Then what a day it turned out to be.
Laps of Scotts and Ruined as the lines at Lakeside and Towers were pretty long.
However actual runs felt remarkably wide open and uncrowded.
Snow held up all day exceptionally well all over Sun Valley.

We would normally be quite happy to sit this busy period out, but with friends visiting from NSW we had a few full days on the mountain. Today started with a bluebird morning and finished with snow flurries and night skiing.
Snow was in great condition with a cm or so of fresh making the groomers perfect for carving and ironed out the tracks off piste.
Ruined castle had some large queues at times but this was more down to frequent stoppages than the amount of people using it. Seems to catch a lot of beginners out. In fact lots of novices about this last 2 weeks and lots of work for ski patrol.

Lovely day up there. Always underestimating how hard it is to get family in motion so our 8am arrival started at 10. It was choppy, busy and cloudy. Snow was actually pretty good, crisp but not ice, but stuck doing runs on wombats was a little sad and felt crowded. Wasn't huge lines, but I'm rather impatient.

Eventually we got across to ruined castle area and that was beautiful. Not having been before there's lots of variety between those two lifts and nice to be able to suss out which line is bigger and go to the other one. Even a small t bar for my daughter, though she's upset not to have the larger ones.

Picnic lunch at windy was brilliant. Really appreciate the tip about that area as getting in and out was pleasant and the crowd in the shelter were proper skiers and without the bustle so felt really appreciative of the tip because I wouldn't have got there otherwise.

Hills were much quieter until 1:30 or so, hoping the crowds dwindle throughout the week. Sky also cleared and was a beautiful day. Went over the top to summit and eagle run was a milkshake spring skiing. But summit had firmed up by that time (2:30) and my kids didn't enjoy the black runs. We made the mistake of going down to gully, and that was patchy ice and grass so we finished day back at ruined castle area. Was pleased to get my wife over there too, and that's a bit of progress as she's been a devoted green skier for a while now. I think that's where falls is best, getting beginners to progress as the blue runs are mostly wide and can be taken carefully.

Noticed a lot of beginners and a lot of stop starting on the lifts. But nice atmosphere on the hill, I'd say a little more easygoing compared to the rushed speedy skiers of Hotham, where we went on the opening weekend. Feel though that there's less thrill than Hotham, but I'm still to get through the trees and such like that.

Would love to get at the international area.

Finally some pictures, mostly average shots....

It’s a great hill for progression, if you can deal with the amount of lift stops, there are some great days had at Falls

Looked ugly coming up but felt dry and mild today and the snow softened and was lovely skiing. A few flakes throughout the morning but none of it seemed to settle. Visibility was miserable halfway up runs, making it a little precarious, and cleared below that. My daughter and I did runs on ruined castle most the day and the small trees poking through on the hill facing south face. Was fun. I was so pleased to be going back for our packed lunch but was mortified to discover I'd forgotten it. I'd counted the gloves, helmets, skis etc, but didn't think of the lunch. Was desperately pained thinking of my lunch down in mt beauty. So was toasted cheese and tomato sandwiches and potato gems from windy. Nice low key no frills cafe. Poor staff were way too busy and understaffed.

Tried the summit area after lunch and enjoyed that but my daughter didn't like the steepness and the moguls, so back to ruined for more dodging of trees. Lifts ran well all day (nice and speedy). Would love to go round the towers area for tree dodging there but looks packed from the safe distance of ruined. Was too cold for many photos and looking at them now 2/3 were of the carpark. Apologies, I'll do better tomorrow. Unless I don't.

PS: I like how cars give way on road up and down. Feel like NSW people wouldn't be so considerate. I'm working on my turns, but I'm mainly doing the pulling over.

Question for the Falls peeps. A group of us are heading up in a couple of weeks for a 3 night stay. Leaving from an overnight stay in Bright on the Tuesday.
Is there anywhere that cars can be left in Bright for 3 days? Just don’t need to take them all up there for our stay on the mountain. Cheers.

You can park at the bus station at Mt beauty for 20 a night, 8 a night if you use the bus to get up the mountain
