I like them to groom a bit of "advanced" terrain. It's nice to have some groomed steeper stuff. It's also nice to have some stuff that was groomed a couple of days earlier but not yet turned into nasty steep sided bumps. Choice is good

I agree that some years they over groom, but this year I think they have gone a bit too far the other way. However, if the snow is wet it is best left till another night rather than groomed.

You have inspired me to put on Yo-Yo Ma playing the Bach Cello suites as I cook dinner. Now that I am retired my wife is encouraging me to cook but I'll have to extend my repertoire. Pasta Amatriciana is getting a bit tired!

Nah, stick with the pasta, she'll get sick of it and go back to her proper job, looking after you!

Brickbat - not being able to swap All resorts entry season pass onto a second vehicle after an accident last week. Falls Creek want a Stat Dec and a Letter from my insurance company with the "reassurance" that it will not happen quickly because the Director has to sign off on the new pass. I understand they require some proof but I thought a photo and a small replacement fee would be all that was necessary.

Not necessarily new, one of the key initiatives in the organisation restructure that they paid $167k for according to the 2013 Annual Report was that managers were replaced by directors. The responsible director would most likely be sitting in the next office and approval would just be a knock on the door and question. Just diversionary BS. Remember this is the part of the organisation that could not get early bird passes paid for in April out until well into the season.

    K. I read 'the Director' as the only one, not one of a number.
I went through this last year and a stat dec was required. Someone in the office was capable of witnessing one. That was all that was needed, unless they were a 'director' as well.

Should be same, same Ziggy. In the past it still would have required a manager's approval. Maybe their highly promoted 'cost savings' have not delivered the goods and they are trying to improve revenue?

Well, I was still p*ssed off cos I'd been told just to bring the old sticker and a new one would be issued. The old sticker had never in fact been applied since the car change happened between purchase and first arrival. So it was patently obvious it'd never been used but it was still necessary to wait around for the stat dec witnessing.

Maybe I was the beneficiary of an unofficial exception, but a scribbled note from my mechanic (probably on letterhead) has sufficed in the past. Sad to see bureaucracy unnecessarily getting the way of looking after the most loyal customers, ie season pass holders

A fave quote is 'rules are the scar tissue of an organisation's past mistakes'.

Organisations get stuck in routines and become inwardly focussed.

Brickbats to the punters who fly into the queue race at 100 miles an hour! No one is admiring your skiing or boarding skills and wishing that they could ride like you. They all think that you are an inconsiderate prick who is going to seriously injure someone one day.

We saw a woman fly down past the slow sign at Lakeside today and launch off the edge totally out of control. She is lucky she didn't hurt herself really badly. Total double ejection and about a 50m slide. It was absolutely unnecessary for her to be going that fast. I felt the "whoosh" behind me as she went off the edge. She would have had a lot more to worry about than her skis coming off if she had hit me :tany:

I love Falls and I love that when I get there next Friday for our 7 night stay almost everything is half price . The accommodation , the lift tickets , kids ski school , adult lessons , hire and now to top it off the resort entry as well . I'm realistic about spring skiing and what it may or may not bring . But I always enjoy it and save heaps of $$$ at the same time which makes it possible for us to visit this place we love so much .

I love spring time too. The sun is out and shining bright. This is the time we usually hit the rail park. I am a total gumby when it comes to stuff like that but I do like to have a little play around.

I hate to be pedantic but that daily email from Falls Creek Ski Lifts co is really starting to annoy me with it's repeated claims of 'bluebird days' after zero snow overnight. A bluebird day is a clear blue sky day AFTER fresh snow!
    So........ brickbat!

I would like to put a plea out to management to stop people from leaving boards and skis right across the access at the bottom of Falls Express. Racks are nearly empty and everybody seems to think it is a good idea to step out of their gear leave it right there. Looks a lot like a teenagers bedroom. I guess that is the mentality. Perhaps a few signs reminding people about manners. Sigh … feeling old.

Yeah it was bad today, people did seem to leave them wherever they came to a stop. Although I beleive the racks remain empty because they are on solid concrete and you would be a fool to place anything you value in them. I have seen the domino effect 3 times in the last week.

No problem with some skis etc being left right on the edge, but it's ridiculous where people leave them.
A single route is fine but 4 rows is just selfish and stupid

Maybe, but I reckon that the majority are rental skis/boards and therefore not the reason that they are not left on racks. The main reason must, at best, be ignorance. At worst, it is sheer selfishness.

Move the racks further onto the snow and they will be used. Dont need a sign, plenty of guest services around.

But yeah, you're all getting a little to old.

Nothing to do with getting old, which I am. Thinking that you should be able to easily access the FX queue or the main stairs to the carpark is hardly unreasonable.

Yesterday I came close to picking up some skis and boards and tossing them out of way. Kinda wish I had.

I have no problem skiing across other peoples skis/boards when they are inappropriately placed, if have rentals on my feet. Call me a pr#%k, but subtlety just doesn't work for some people

Showing my almost 50 years here. Sounds like a gen Y/Z thing. Expecting parents to pick up stuff, not caring yarda, yarda - mind you, I'm sure as teens we did this with bikes outside milk bars etc...

Also, not sure that some racks take boards. That wouldn't help.

To be fair, anything left on the ground around that area of FC is not going to make much of a difference...that eyesore kinda overwhelms it. Maybe they could move that out of the way.

QT might be an eyesore and a waste of good car parking spaces but it is not the horrible blockade that is made by thoughtless people blocking the slope with their skis and boards.

I think QT looks fabulous when new snow clings to all the wood and metalwork. Totally daft building for sure but it is pretty. Boards and skis on the snow in everybody's way, have no such redeeming features.

Was waiting to go up lakeside Poma first thing this morning . A teenage boarder maybe 14 fell over when trying to get on Poma . The lifty abruptly and loudly said that's your second attempt buddy - 1 more go if you don't get it you will be walking back up the mountain . The poor kid looked so stressed , me the couple in front of me and couple behind me couldn't blve it . When he went for his 3rd attempt I said to him don't let him rattle you - you've got this . The couple in front said you'll be right 3 rd time lucky . He made it up and we all yelled out good job . The lifty just grumbled - yeah finally . Very bad form imo .

Less redeeming is all the carp in the 'old bowl' area like the Pan, Nissen huts and even the FCSL buildings to a degree! Who wouldn't love to bulldoze most of these structures and start again with more asthetic and function buildings, landscaping (trees and shrubs for summer) and hopefully a new detachable quad or two & maybe one or two beginners poma/carpets with snowmaking??

This lamentable lack of planning is a blight on a wonderful all-season mountain resort but I dare not hold my breath for action. Anyone else?

    Interesting.

Thursday I went to load on lakeside poma.
Was the only one there it was empty so the guy (with the hipster beard) holds the poma out and I slide down and grab the poma, he doesnt pull and I end up stopping.
I looked up at the hangar to see if perhaps he grabbed the wrong one and said "whats the problem"
He then says "Dont slide down until I tell you"

Odd because when I rode the Inter poma everytime the op held the poma out I slid down to grab it and they pulled it without telling me to slide down, same as it always been for all the years Ive ridden pomas and thats the way I did it when I pulled pomas all season as a towie.
Hold it out when you want them to slide in and pull when they grab it.

So I figured this guy was just giving me some hispter attitude thing.
So next time I come down and at the top of the race, he holds to poma out and says "Ok come down"
    I asked "are you sure"
    He says "yes slide down".
I asked again "are you absolutely sure"
    He says "yes"
He took the hint, next times I went thorugh he just held out and pulled it when I grabbed it without saying a word.
One run came down with 2 other mates and there was 2 others and the run empty, so we all shuffled through to the gate and he has decided to put on some sun screen and let us all line in in the race and wait before loading then casually puts his tube away in his little locker and starts loading.
    Bit of a Tosser.

As for this "1 more go if you don't get it you will be walking back up the mountain ."
Id wager that this is a sackable offence.
It would have been in 1981 when I pulled pomas and IME any other time that sort of crap is a thing of the long past that lift companies dont tollerate anymore.

Brickbat to the Stingray employee (possibly manager) who abuses customers.

Some days ago I ran into friends in Stingray who told me the service had been really bad that day and that had taken 2 hours to have lunch. Staff member came over, loudly and angrily telling them off for saying such things (which happened to be true).

Talk about a customer service fail

I think we may have encountered the same employee when we waited over an hour for lunch when we had been told numerous times it was being plated up. Everyone that had ordered before us got their meals and had left before ours had come out. There were only two of us and others had a group of four or more.

    Bouquets: To FC equipment hire.

Contrary to popular beliefs...i do have to work now and then and today was one of those days.

So the mrs and little man head on up for the day but realise on arrival that they have picked up the wrong snowboard boots having accidentally grabed the sons old and too small pair.

No dramas they can just hire some.

Turns out she has forgot her purse aswell so she calls me at work to provide some credit card details.
Unfortunately the system is not set up to pay without a physical card but in the end the very helpful staff give him a free pair of boots for the day.....how nice is that!
