It would appear that that particular strategy is not working at all so online buy before you go day ticket "discounts" are now part of the mix.

Epic style pass prices continue to rise and restrictions increase. Now multiple levels of pass cost

It's a convoluted mess created by yield accountants

Highly unlikely IME. Accountants just don't have that level of influence over operational and marketing decisions in any company I've seen.

More likely marketing-degreed bizoids with statistical models.

Spoke with a mate who is not on the inside of the deal but is lurking around the periphery - timing wise he isn't confident it will go through before the season starts (thus no EPIC pass to use in the 19/20 northern hemisphere winter). I hope he's wrong. Often is! Any other whispers out there...?

I heard a whisper that Alterra are eyeing off Thredbo and Hotham to allow them to compete with Vail for the Australian o/s ski market (while keeping their brand of owning 'skiers mountains') and that Buller will probably come onto the Ikon Pass as well (disclaimer: these whispers were inside my head).

    Vail has purchased Hotham.

Thredbo is on the Ikon Pass (7 days). Not sure whether Alterra is looking to buy Thredbo or Buller.

Yes indeed, Thredbo and Buller would make a nice combo if you have flexibility to travel!

chatting with perisher yesteday re confirmaion of japan pass when hotham / falls came up. Every sentence started with "if the deal goes through" not "when" Would not give any expected timeframe or if it would be in time for ths season. That's to be expected for any decision regulated by commercial law.

even if the deal doesn't go through before qbw, why couldn't an epic upgrade be offered later?

No reason other than the numbers I suppose. I can see how they might consider converting Hotham & Falls season passes to EPIC up until closing weekend but if the deal completes after that I can't see a retrospective conversion happening...happy to be wrong of course...

When I read this, "When the transaction closes, the 2019 Epic Australia Pass and 2018-19 Epic Pass will include unlimited, unrestricted access to Falls Creek and is expected to include unlimited, unrestricted access to Hotham, subject to certain approvals." in the press release and FAQ regarding the aquisition, the wording makes me question whether the Vail contingency if ACCC has monopoly concerns is to cut Hotham loose? This statement is very definitive about Falls and not so much about Hotham.

Talking to Falls Ski lift staff yesterday r.e. the Hero Pass the tone on the takeover and the upgrade options to the Epic pass was being framed very confidently.

Can also confirm that Alterra farted around and missed the opportunity with Falls & Hotham.

Buller won't sell, so Alterra will have to pay full ticket for Thredbo if Alterra want in to Australia and they do.

NZ is next on the list and expect a big European acquisition to be announced in the next 45 days.

I'd love for Alterra to have a go at Thredbo, my preferred hill in Oz. 365 pass with Ikon resorts o/s is a winner in my books. Skiing local, skiing o/s and lifted mtn biking all wrapped up in a single pass.

It's intriguing that they have confirmed Falls completely, but are still being cagey about Hotham on the Epic pass.

From my understanding of the email they sent out It's confirmed as part of the sale, not the conditions of access, which is contingent on some details regarding the resort lease which require government approval.

Seems they're honouring existing Hero passes, with opportunity to upgrade to Epic Australia which includes this 2019 Oz season and restricted use for NH 19-20 season. Otherwise the Epic pass is for full NH access 19-20 and season Oz 2020.

opps - posted in another thread, should have posted it in this thread.

Got and email from Perisher today and there is an asterisk on Hotham. Anyone know what the issue is?

Its says "access to hotham is pending certain approvals"

You’re welcome - but just to let you know - it’s flat, overcrowded, there’s never any snow, and the lifts are slow and it’s all over-priced and over-rated, and that’s on a good day.

There’s not any reason to come really. And it’s not true what they say about the coffee - it’s actually awful.

So, I think I've got this right...I've paid deposits for Hotham Hero passes for the fam for 2019 season. When these remaining government approvals come through (and I pay the outstanding balances) I'll be offered a conversion to EPIC Australia Passes (at no extra cost??). That bit seems clear enough. So here's where I'm unsure - we want to ski Telluride in Jan 2020. That's not covered on the EPIC Australia Pass but is covered on the higher cost EPIC Pass. My read of the news release is we wont be able to upgrade from EPIC Australia Pass to the EPIC Pass for the SH19 NH19/20 season. But it seems we may be able to buy the full EPIC pass post SH19 season that will cover NH19/20 and SH20. Correct?

    Thats how i read it.
They're obviously calibrating the epic to start with the NH winter from 2019-20. With incentives for australians to buy Epic
