Resort entry options are either single resort or all Vic, right? There isn't anything that just covers Falls and Hotham, is there?

I wish the RMBs could sort their shit out and offer an all resorts early bird. They do at sorts in May but it’s not the cheap as chips type that the individual resorts offer now.

    Since when?

Early bird was $375 this year and before that it was something like $299. Now that was a bargain.

Well my season is over so goodbye Falls Ck.

This is the first season in four that wasn't ended by injury. Woot!

And there was one of those memorable days: bluebird, great snow, and I hit my fave side-country slopes absolutely on fire.

Well done, Z. Stay fit. Thanks again for your guidance. Wish I could have shared some more side-country experiences with you. How many ski days this year?

If I was only going on the snow in Vic I wouldn't mind an all resorts, but since I expect to go to Perisher for Mr 4 (next year) to snowboard, I am only likely to get a short stint in at Hotham or Falls, so that means I am better off paying $250 for 5 days' entry than $600 for unlimited all resorts.

Thanks. I hadn't looked up what I paid this year. I very much doubt it would get any cheaper.
They probably need gov approval for next year's rates, but maybe they can get away with selling them this year without a price rise.
Still not sure if I would put my money down now rather than in a few months

Had an awesome time at Falls today. Got onto Falls Express at 8:00 and rode the whole mountain, although Sun Valley was the pick of it. Mountain reasonably quiet. I was amazed at how much snow cover had been lost in a week.

On 173cm Blizzard Bonafides I got from @mr - what an awesome ski! Thanks @mr !

I bombed down Father Fosters, Scottys and Corkscrew. It’s amazing how a wider, stiffer ski makes such a massive difference in the chopped up afternoon spring slush - I could still send Rapunzels and Powderkeg - no way I was doing that last week same time of day.

I did a short side country stint off the back of Ruined castle downstream to about 200m above road 24 through the trees - amazed how much good cover there is so far down on the Southern-eastern faces when the North-west faces are so washed out!

Kept an eye out for @Ziggy but didn’t see you this time round - see you next year.

Lovely early 180% rainbow over the Knolls this morning- didn’t have my camera or phone.

Encountered deer on the way up 7km from Mount Beauty & again near Clover power station - last week I saw a doe at Nursery.

Coming down at 3pm a wombat ambled across the road about 3km out of Falls before the Resort Entry Gate.

So this yellow sign with the star symbol is on an access/ fire track off the High Plains Road near the Fainters Lookout and also the other side of Bogong on the Granite Flat track off the Omeo road.

I’ve speculated that it indicates the service road access point for the pylon lines across the valley above Bogong Valley through to Granite Flat, but maybe someone knows for real.

Definitely not AAWT - the AAWT signs are distinctly different and the AAWT crosses near Ropers on the Bogong High Plains Road and tracks via the Long Spur, not via Eskdale/Staircase/ Granite Flat.

    Really?
What do you call a deer with no eyes? No eye deer.
What do you call a deer with no eyes and no legs? Still no eye deer.
What do you call a deer with no eyes and no legs that is the victim of a vampire attack? Still no bloody eye deer.
    What do you call...

Nowhere on the website where one can appear to purchase though...

we're skiing six days at falls next year. We might get back for a second visit but it's probably not worth it for us. We'd also be just as likely to do our second vic trip at hotham, so I don't think I'll get the pass. I assume buying a 6 day pass discounts the $50 daily cost of resort entry?

There isn't a cheaper way for a family of four to get in there is there? I assume shuttle buses from Mt Beauty, where we'll be staying, would be more expensive. Anyway, resort entry prices are pretty steep, hey?

No discounts on resort entry for buying multi-day lift passes AFAIK.

    6X50 = $300 / $309 < $375. But another 2 days you’d break even.

Buses return for a family over a 6 day period would definitely be more expensive.

I look at it like this - the season pass benefits extend beyond the break-even point, much like the Epic pass - it’s essentially the value of flexibility.

The frictional costs of being forced to go when conditions are unsuitable because you’re locked in can pile up as a family- one additional on-hill meal when conditions force you off the snow for instance tips you over the difference between a pre-season resort entry pass and a six day pass.

    1) You’re less captive to conditions on timing- if it’s good you go, and if it’s not you don’t force yourself (and kids) up the hill.

    2) You’re always bypassing the tripper queue at the gate (less of an issue now with self-printed prepaid day passes)

    3) If conditions change on the hill it’s easy to chuck it in as you might come up another time.

    4) for XC/ BC skiers the other factor is BC/ XC access - the flexibility of going when conditions are good, or when you might get some time to go rather than just be locked into fixed longer chunks of time is an understated benefit.

    5) one offsets the sense of frequently being on the same hill - social benefits, getting to know very diverse terrain, increased convenience from established routines & inside knowledge against the novelty of skiing different terrain at another resort.

    6) Falls is more family friendly than Hotham with more intermediate terrain and a more ‘manageable’ village, especially if day tripping, so if one is adding occasional one-off trips to longer duration stays, then Falls works well - depends on the skiing ability of the family though.

Finally, best value for money for snow access would have to be the annual NSW All Parks Pass for @$190 - nothing can top that! But if I had that already & wanted to ski Vic resorts also I’d be day tripping probably.

Why not stay in Bright & you can then choose between Falls & Hotham as it suits on a daily basis - the ski passes give equal access to either mountain, and you (pre) pay resort entry as you go...

Yeah, I see your point. It's just that unless I take the kids out of school for a week, we're unlikely to ski at falls after the school holidays. It's too big a drive from Sydney to do for just a weekend, or even a three day weekend, so any ski trip we do will probably be trips to Perisher after the school holidays. I imagine we may do a trip to Hotham sometime later in the season on top of our six days at falls creek just for an opportunity to see another ski resort. But I doubt that Falls will be so much more appealing than Perisher that we'd make that extra 2 hour drive to go back. Or am I wrong there?

And we're staying at Mt Beauty because of my wife still being a beginner and Falls having more variety for her. So may as well cut down on travel to and from the place. We may still do a trip to Hotham in our stay, it looks like it's only a bit over an hour to get there from Mt Beauty, which probably means we're better again not getting annual entry pass to Falls.

Staying at Mt. Beauty instead of Bright will cost you less than an hour each day travel over Tawonga Gap (that is to say it only takes half an hour to get to the Hotham road). Bright has more places to eat but Mt. Beauty and Tawonga are still OK. Family accommodation in Mt. Beauty and Tawonga is reasonable. Bright may be dearer but it has been a while since I have stayed at either place. I think you have some good options.

some perisher skiers fall in love with falls creek and prefer it. others prefer the much larger perisher resort. your family will make up their own minds.

I'd allow more than just over an hour to get to hotham. IME the slow traffic is less likely to pull over, chains will usually be required, you will probably have to park at the beginner area and await for a bus to the main lifts. I count on 2 hrs till I'm ready to ski at Hotham - in good conditions

Good call on skiing Falls rather than Perisher in the holiday week given interschools at Perisher.

Always better to spend one’s time skiing rather than more driving though....

Your wife will love Falls as it’s very beginner friendly compared to Perisher (or Hotham) even though it also offers some really interesting advanced terrain ( The Maze).

Sucked into Vic by the Epic Pass?

Sorry Curra, didn't explain myself that well. My bad. I was relating the time difference between staying at Mt. Beauty as opposed to Bright and driving to Hotham. It takes half an hour over Tawonga Gap then you have to drive through to Hotham but the overall extra driving will only cost you an hour each day you drive to Hotham. If the plan is to ski Falls more then staying in Bright would mean a lot more driving each day. Is the mud clearer now or have I made it worse?
