It was my understanding early on that there weren’t any restrictions on numbers for resort season pass holders, you just had to book 48 hours in advance. Now they’re saying there are a number allocated to a pool? Have I read that correctly?

Pool allocation applies until 12 July. That hasn’t changed since they announced arrangements for this year

I read the initial release wrong then. I knew there was a requirement for registration, but didn’t know there was a pool.

It looks like it was briefly mentioned on the Perisher website about reserving tickets, but has now disappeared:

Yeah, they took off the revised date (29th) off from initial announcement. Although my friends are already getting refunds for this weekend from on mountain provider.

I don't trust any of the webcams at Falls Creek. Check the dates of the webcam pics. They seem to only on when the snow is good. Mt Hotham is the same.

    An Update on Opening Day!
We are excited for the opening of the 2020 snow season, especially given the difficult year endured by our mountain communities. While we look forward to welcoming guests to Falls Creek and seeing skiers and boarders making their first turns, due to current snow conditions we have made the difficult decision to delay opening the ski lifts at Falls Creek and Hotham until Monday 29 June.

With promising snowmaking windows ahead and natural snowfall in the forecast, we will have lifts spinning as soon as possible. Our daily snow reports will be available here from this Wednesday and also stay tuned to our social channels for more updates.

For anyone on the mountain this week, make sure you checkout which food and beverage outlets will be open and how they will be operating here. If you are after some retail therapy, Homebase and The Board Lounge will be open from 9.00 am on Saturday 27 June, and ālp from 10.00 am. Click here to find out more.

We thank you again for your patience and understanding.

For the safety of our employees, communities & you, our guests, this season Falls Creek will operate under a COVID-19 Safe Operating Plan.

The last 9 seasons I've been working at Falls, this year I've decided not to due to Covid and the requirement and restrictions that have been placed on the resort. Pretty safe in QLD at the moment, Vic seems to be going backwards...Hopefully make the trip down in August for a couple of weeks when the snow has caked the resort and restrictions on the village may have eased up. Wish everyone well and stay safe for a weird season ahead. We all hope next season is back to normal mountain operations.

They have always worked for me. Have had to hit refresh to get them to update once or twice though. The 360 cams on Skifalls are great, you can even check the history.

I wonder f there will be a cancel function for Epic Pass holders so we can cancel a lift pass day if/when we know we can no longer use it so that it is freed up for someone who can. For the people who may well book many days of the season on spec this would be a good function for them to free up spots. They may get caught out if some data analysis is done on booked days vs days used but I doubt the resort admin will be doing that.

    Bump time.

Does anyone think Fall summit would open a little more often if the lift co/ resort did some shrub slashing - especially to skiers right of chair? There’s even sizeable snow gum saplings that I’m sure used to be pruned?

A it is Summit Bowl Cam’s 2 & 3 show that it will take a lot of snow to cover herbage.

(this should be no surprise - it’s so obvious - I note the maze was done in the last year - should really help this season?)

This will be a pain for sure.
    There is no penalty.
In the case of the season mountainbike shuttle ticket holders this is a problem that they book and dont turn up.

Vail have applied a "fair use" provision in the T's & C's. If you book every day between now and 12 July, then don't show up to any, there's a good chance that your Epic Aus Pass will be cancelled when you show up after July 13.

That’s handy but shouldn’t they be actively summer grooming?

The lack of summer grooming in the summit bowl / lift area was quite noticeable at GF weekend last year and seems to make quite a difference (i.e. limit) when Snow cover is low.

First problem but the lack of action in a high priority area beggars belief. :rolleyes:o_O

Hot tip for young players. When the reservations for the EAP are resumed for Falls, I would make your bookings within the first 4 hours of release. Perishers tickets sold out in about 5 hours.

I'd love to see it too but I'm pretty resigned to it being pretty rare. 2003 bushfires did the best summer grooming ever in the maze

Yes it would be nice, but it all comes down to how "high priority" is defined. Probably Vail and your definitions differ...

So let me see, Vail are ‘comfortable’ with many runs gradually (and in some cases, rapidly) becoming less skiable each year? And that’s as average snow depths and duration slowly eases? Great?

Let me guess, Buller & Thredders would be similar?

It's an environmental thing around the Summit and Maze areas.
There are Mountain Plum Pines there.
There's a big stand of them that runs along from the ski patrol akia trail from the Summit area to the Medical Centre.
    Food for Pygmy Possums.
I used to take cuttings from the plants in Summer to propagate them for FCRM.

well that changes things. I’ve seen one at Hotham.

The main area I’m thinking of is quite low near the aqueduct trail - not sure if that’s a plum pine area?

But I get the importance in protecting MPP & MP pine habitat.

I was thinking more that Vail would target those areas where there are greater number of beginner and intermediate skiers, as this market is larger than the number of people that use the Summit area

Falls ticketing is allegedly booked up until the middle of July at least.
I cant imagine they will be running all the lifts even if the snow is OK.
looks like a big year for going bc.
I understand they are being excessively cautious but it would be a pain without an Epic pass and you had booked accommodation.
Not that i ever stay being local but friends do.
May have to buy an epic pass to get preference?

I know that it was simply money issues that have stopped my skiing but I think I picked a good year not to think about a season pass.
Sadly unless and until we can get a vaccine I think this might become the new normal

We never book any earlier than last week of July these days. Without a consistent snow making effort there is rarely a decent cover at school holidays time.
This is husband and 2 of my boys 3 July 2006 at the bottom of Wombat's ramble.
We still had a great time, from memory. There was good snowmaking done up top.

My apologies for posting this here and in the COVID season thread.

I have a question about EPIC pass that some here may know. We are coming from SA and heading to Falls for a single 1-week trip in late July/early August (which looks to be break even for EPIC this year) but are nervous about committing given the current spike.

In terms of refunds, border restrictions don't seem to be specifically mentioned. Would a limit on the SA-Vic border constitute a "Stay-at-home order from state or country" and be eligible for a refund? I am concerned that the specific "stay-at-home" wording may be a higher bar than just a border limit rendering us ineligible for a refund (if the border was still closed and required a two week quarantine this would not be feasible for us).

Any intel would be very much appreciated.

2006 was not a great year. While we won't be going up this school holidays, we have been going every July school holidays for more than 10 years and more often than not, I have had to dig the car out of the car park when we need to go home. The snowmaking at Falls now usually provides cover for Wombats, Drovers and Towers at a minimum and in recent years many other lifts have been open in early July. Apart from the COVID craziness which has delayed our trip this year, the worst thing about an early July trip is the crowd. Yes, if you can go later in the year, it is normally better, but we have been restricted to the school holidays in previous years.

2006 was the worst year this century but I agree early July may not be great.

Not looking much until the next dump hopefully in a week.
    Possibly drizzling today.
