That has been our experience as well. The bonus being some years Summit was open and even the Maze in the first week of the NSW (2nd week of Vic) holidays. It's not unusual to get the first big dump during the first week of July.

With the latest spike in Victoria, we have decided to can our trip next week (getting tickets was a little difficult too). :(

I note that this was well before T - B snowmaking on Wombats Ramble - it’s hard to believe that it took so long for such a vital part of the Falls’ trail system. I also note that key stakeholders (lodge/ flat owners) along the route fought hard against such SM - to be fair perhaps they argued for the quietest alternative rather than none? (Someone here may recall?)

But this obstruction is worth noting - it’s ironic because many of the customers of such premises are key beneficiaries of the automated SM that exists and keeps the Falls Express (& whatever names) running most of the season theses days - even in really lean years. (Be careful what you wish for!) ;)

Glad I took the refund on my season pass. This season is turning into a disaster.

It was always going to be a disaster except for those doing a day trip.

Is it just extra requirements of social distancing that have delayed opening at falls or does falls creek often have delayed start due to lack of snow? Many other years that it's been delayed this late? I think this change is actually good for us because it means we can see what happens with restrictions and coronavirus and cancel our season pass later, if I'm reading email correctly?

Lack of snow and nothing in forecast for another 10 days to build the base.
Snow making to build a base is a big job.

It's not rare snow to be dicey in school holidays. Usually it is ok for 2nd week of Vic holidays, but not always. A few years ago they were opening the lifts an hour early. We were skiing for the first hour and then quitting for the day.

However, with covid they don't want people hanging around with nothing to do. They would rather people stayed away if there is not enough snow.

Vic snowfields could do worse than encourage Vic DEET to start their winter break a week or two later.
I know that would upset a lot of non-parents of schoolies.

As a rule the snow in Vic is just becoming half decent when school returns - except of course the very best years and a few woeful ones! 88’, 93’, 06’; 2011?

I think it's actually good when vic & nsw don't completely coincide, spreads the peak and allows more people to stay overall.

just don't go back to the old 3 term system where august would be ruined by school holidays ;p

yes some stagger helps the industry, a series of ‘mini’ peaks.

As a uni student the three terms with a three week August break was wonderful. Must have been very hard to sell early July ski holidays back then? o_O

Has anyone had any luck changing their Epic coverage preference?

The FAQ says to do it in ‘My Account’, but when I login I can’t find the right field.

Any ideas where I should look?

has your final payment been taken yet? I don't think you can do it till then. but you have to do it before you use your pass for the first time

Yep it was taken on Monday. Can you see the field?

I’ve sent the Epic team an email on Tuesday (the day the option was supposed to appear in our accounts) but I suspect they’re too swamped to get to it

I can't see it. the epic coverage page says
Pass holders will be able to make adjustments to their preferences through their “My Account” online at epicaustraliapass.com.au, starting 23 June, 2020.
I'm guessing they are running late with implementation.

If I didn't want to use my pass in the next week, I'd wait and see.

If I wanted to use it very soon, I'd send them an email stating that I could not find the epic coverage preferences under My Account on the website and then stating what my preferences were, eg Falls Creek, core season. I would then rely on that email to prove taht I had done everything possible to elect preferences before using the pass.

I wonder if To Village (i.e. to bowl) would be an opening requirement, as without BHP rd Bus and intra village transport it could be pretty difficult for people to get back to accommodation/ gully car park.

maybe, but i doubt that it would be a prerequisite. there are options
    • download on eagle (and maybe run gully)
    • ski down wombats to the parallel st and then walk to bowl area.
    • walk from bottom of halleys to wherever
not ideal, but i don't think it would stop them opening towers and halleys.

back before we has snowmaking or halleys comet or village shuttles, i had to walk from near halleys to the bowl every day for a week to get eagle, and walk back much of the way later

If there was decent snowmaking from the top of Eagle to Cloud9, then the nightmare of getting to Halleys from the Bowl would be eliminated in low snow years. As this normally coincides with the July school holidays, the queue for shuttle in these times is beyond belief. No idea how this will look like in these COVID times. Hopefully the snow this week delivers enough to get things going well

Oh for some snowmaking on Summit. To me Vail are serious ‘Developing’ about their FC product when they add SM to the summit.

And we've debunked the north facing SM myth in Vic. (Near the lift it’s a East facing) And yes I get their ‘green-blue’ (family) market - my family are members. :D (Not holding breath - not just post Covid 19).

Good luck to all. Hopefully we don't see what happened at Perisher with people reserving a blanket set of days that they may or may not be visiting the resort that day.

Thx - I was logged on via mobile for the Perisher reservation last Tuesday - it crashed on me.

Tomorrow I’m going to log on prior to 2pm and also select multiple days before check-out, rather than select a day, check-out & go back.

Also, one first selects a date, and number of persons and then allocates the reservation to a particular person, so knowing that might help if you have multiple passes on the same account.

If one gets bumped out prior to checkout, the cart retains the uncompleted reservation, but won’t fullfill the order if the date has become unavailable.

Hotham scheduled for 8:30 tmrw morning.

Perisher booking time not announced yet.
