I've got 4 passes per day to book too to add to the challenge. At least after July 12 we don't have to book unless the corona infection numbers keep going to put us back a stage. 75 new cases reported today.

we measure today what was caused 2 weeks ago. takes a long time to turn it around. daily results probably get worse before they get better, even if the extra measures are perfect

Last Tuesday I was pulled over outside Benalla on the Hume trying to book Perisher dates.

    Log on ahead of time!

    Definitely anxious for 2pm tomorrow!
Do you think logging on ahead of time is the solution to the congested servers? I thought it would of been the process of adding the days to your cart and checking out, and not logging in to the website.

Either way, I will definitely be following your advice. I even opted to work from home tomorrow, just so I could reserve Mon 06 Jun.

Thanks for posting the news about Falls reservations happening tomorrow at 2pm. Despite registering for notification, I didn't get anything by email. I presume you won't need the email to make a reservation?

Strap yourselves in. Seeing reports that Hotham EAP reservations sold out within an hour for 6-10 Jul. I would say the Hotham people that missed out will be gunning for Falls Creek reservations as well.

    Good luck everyone.

Hmm... I think it would be easier if they stopped making announcements.

Reservations delayed till Friday - great to let us know AFTER the Hotham reservation closed.

    Time to cancel the pass?

So bloody true. I would of reserved a day at Hotham if I knew that was going to be the case. I understand situations change, but Vails announcements have been shocking.

Its certainly a clusterfark.Made worse by the Epic passes IMO.
Dont know whether to buy one or not ?
First COVID 19, then the rules about SD could change again then the weather is unkind.
My cynical side says most likely they will try to run as few lifts as possible as there are fewer people and they dont want to run at a loss and no one will complain after they won the ticket lottery..?

If I canceled my and my son’s passes I could upgrade my tent....

I’ve skied one day at Perisher on my pass though, so wonder how that works with a cancellation.

Also got the Falls resort entry pass.

Also, given the coin on new gear for my son and myself I’m already heavily invested - admittedly not a sunk cost - will carry to next season.

Will hold on for now - presuming they don’t go back on the no limits on Epic pass holders after the 12th...

They must be pretty worried about numbers, looking at cams mousetrap, drovers and mainstreet look skiable - maybe they assumed Wombats and therefore oversold?

(Anyone up there confirm drovers etc would be skiable, or still some concerns?)

They absolutely will not remove the limits for epics passes after the 12th.

I believe the main reasons why they pushed back the date again for Falls Creek EAP reservations are:
    1. Snow conditions are sub-optimal.
    2. Based on reason #1 they have oversold general lift passes.
    3. Based on reason #2 they will have to lower the amount of tickets offered to EAP holders.
Lets say it was a 50/50 split between EAP holders and general ticket holders, I would say that percentage has now drastically reduced on the EAP side.
Based on everything above, I am seriously considering trying to get a Perisher booking tomorrow. The question is, do I want to do an 8 hour return trip, or take the risk with Falls Creek with the drastically reduced EAP tickets on offer for next week.

Agree, on cascade of sub-optimal snow, but will there be any more snow by 13th? Looks like nothing after 1st-4th system.

Maybe after 12th EAP tickets (reservations?) and 'normal' tickets available at same time?

since i have no intention of trying to ski before 13 july, I haven't really paid too much attention to the cams. it is quite common for perisher to be in a much better position than vic at the start of vic school holidays. getting the first good fall in mid july is not uncommon.

Less than ideal conditions for snow making with high humidity.

looks like more rain before any snow too.

I think they will struggle to have much open for the 6th....

Can’t disagree with your logic and it’s all things considered a reasonable position for Falls Lifts (Vail) to take.

Worth the drive to Perisher - did it last week and didn’t regret it.

Cool.... couldn't get any Perisher EAP tickets because the site kept crashing. I wonder if I will have the same luck this Friday when it comes to trying to reserve tickets for Falls Creek.

    Love it!

Days of 50 to 70 Coronas

    Sigh

I hope all businesses survive, so that we can all spend big next year at Falls and Bright and surrounds.

My accom has had lots of cancels for July and August and went from being very much booked out to about half full....

Don’t count on being able to reserve successfully- about 40% probability of success - based on people’s experience on the Perisher website this morning..... the Vail website and processes just aren’t designed to cope with the level of traffic they’re experiencing and demand VASTLY outstrips supply....

I have a high degree of regret not booking Hotham tickets now. With Falls Creek current snow conditions and oversold day tickets, I would say 40% chance of success is overestimating.

I am just hoping for a miracle or less website traffic due to two Vail owned snow resorts in the area.

Just got email from Falls Creek Snowsport, only beginner lessons on next week - refunds for lift tickets and lessons for anything booked 6th July to 12th July (if wanted).

    Looking a bit bleak!

I'm still hopeful that Drovers and Mainstreet will be open next week, but after the last 3 months, and *thankfully* not being in a lockdown suburb, just getting up to the mountain and enjoying some time on any run would be amazing.

Doesn't take much to make a big difference

    15cm this week
    20cm 15th
    20cm 23rd
    20cm 30th

Theres a nice half metre base

Not saying it will happen but things can change fast. Even 1 mega dump can get most open

too early to call it. we have had some pretty good snow seasons that didn't really get going till august. 1984, 1988?, 2010 spring to mind.

If they keep the lid on covid and they get almost anything better than 2006 then i think that they should be able to manage a season, incl season passes. any of the majors shutting for purely financial reasons seems unlikely IMHO

I might call my season over though

and 1991 too. There was almost nothing at Buller at the start of August but ended being a very good late season. One of a trio of good seasons (90-92) following the eruption of Mt Pinataubo, Phillipines.
