Thanks for all your tips. We didnt have as much time as we thought but did the Ropers Lookout walk which was perfect.
Would anyone be interested in pushing for past lifts to be rebuilt? The removals of the Headwater Poma, Link Lift T-Bar, Village T-Bar and Big Dipper T-Bar significantly reduced the amount of runs and skiable area, and crowds everyone in the current areas. I have sent the ski lift company a few emails and they are considering it.
I'd probably prefer more snow making infrastructure - anything that would allow them to pump out more snow when conditions are good, followed then by more snow making terrain (big dipper then summit if feasible), then I wonder if lift capacity would be better.
the removed lifts have not really reduced the area that people ski, except headwater. link lift was rarely used and only to get people from summit/headwaters to scotts, ruined or days end. everything on big dipper is still accessible, as is everything on village. on wind hold days it seems a shame not too have village. then i remember that when we did, it wasn't worth queing for an hour to ride it when chairs were shut. headwater was a lovely place to take beginners on a nice day but it really was underutilized. it's a pita to get beginners back without link lift. if it was my business I wouldn't want to run link, and probably not headwater. the number of skier days has not grown enough to proceed with the rocky knolls/damsite/mckay expansion. sad but true. falls is just not crowded enough to justify it - which is one of the reasons we love the place. i'd be surprised if we ever see a meaningful expansion of lifted terrain now that global warming is making our natural seasons more erratic
...... am following, reading "all" about Falls Creek, but am too far and too old to add comments ! somehow Falls is always there in my heart ... Mirou ...
Yes, I would imagine ski resorts will have to move away from the edges of the snow area, further in where there’s more snow.
If the next Winter Olympics is happening in a low snow area given Chinese chutzpah and cash it’s on for young and old at Smiggins! With deputy NSW premier and local Monaro hero honest John Barrilaro now behind the Smiggins bid nothing can stop the inevitable momentum. If you can’t take Mohammed to the mountain, bring the mountain to Mohammed! Especially looking forward to the Giant Slalom along the rebuilt Aquaduct Hut Trail at Smiggins. I hear they’re buying the fill from the Melbourne East-West tunnels to build the mountain with the help of Michael O’Brien.
Doing some work at Halley's I see. it's always been a problem that area with snowmelt at the end of winter. Improving drainage by the looks of it. Long time overdue.
I've always thought that the bottom end of the run where all that dirt is showing should have tufted nylon ski carpet where the dirt shows and that top silt fence is and over the road when the season starts
It's supposed to be a green area for summer. That means natural grass. There's an old saying in road construction, "drainage, drainage, and more drainage". The first few goes failed because the fall was incorrect leading to stagnant water all over the place. Had to be redone once or twice I recall. Maybe they should look at the grass types being used. For 3 or 4 months it's covered in snow.
The bowl yes but that bottom section of Wombats ramble gets chewed up all the time, skis in winter and mountain bikes in summer. But I agree that it's better to do it right first time. Could use fake turf tho so it would look green in summer, although that doesn't last long when skis run over it
Do Not Like https://www.realcommercial.com.au/f...-schuss-street-falls-creek-vic-3699-503686142 Seems Jaye made the hard decision she was hinting at Will never be the same without her running the place Very sad
Had lunch there yesterday and said the same thing 'very sad'. She said, people have to stop saying that. People move on and we can hope someone who loves the mountain in winter and summer will take it on. I have very much appreciated eating there over the years but also ate there before she had it.
