It was supposed to be another blizzard day, but the sun was peeping through and the wind wasn't too bad, so just had to get up there. The report said 21cm of fresh, and it would have been that or better.

    Monkey Bar [IMG] excellent
    Drovers [IMG] excellent
    Towers [IMG] excellent
    Lakeside [IMG] excellent
    Scotts [IMG] excellent
    Ruined Castle [IMG] Didn't ski
    Summit [IMG] [IMG]
International [IMG] Very Good, but had to work hard by the time I got there
The Maze [IMG] Didn't ski (lift was out for quite a while)
    Off-piste Frontside [IMG] very good
    Off-piste Backside [IMG] very good
    Wombat’s Ramble [IMG] Didn't ski
Other home trails [IMG] Very Good
    Village Roads [IMG] Didn't ski

Fresh snow everywhere, some of it wind packed, some skier packed, some groomed and some pretty loose.

Best skiing (IMHO) was lightly groomed or skier (lightly) packed areas where small bumps were starting to form.

Off-piste had some lovely bits, but it was pretty variable too. Everything from velvety drifts to solid ice to breakable crust to sastrugi with ice chunks. Fun but.

Only thing wrong with today was the power outage that shut just about all lifts for a while in late morning. Very frustrating, but I suppose these things happen in the mountains. At least they put towies at the top of runs to warn people not to ski down.

    Pick of the day:
    Village

Didn't ski wombats, but if Hoot was this good, wombats would have been fine too.

Should be great next week the forecast in Melbourne is fine, sunny and 16degrees. Power outages aren't peculiar to the mountains, in several suburbs on the coldest night for 10 years there was a problem with gas supply and if you had the heating on the hot water service wouldn't work! Too technical for me but there was some complicated explanation.

After strong wind on Thursday, off-piste conditions changed but groomers were much the same.

    Monkey Bar [IMG] excellent
    Drovers [IMG] excellent
    Towers [IMG] excellent
    Lakeside [IMG] excellent
    Scotts [IMG] excellent
    Ruined Castle [IMG] excellent
    Summit [IMG] excellent
    International [IMG] Very Good
The Maze [IMG] bit of everything. Cover is good but it's had enough traffic to cut it up, and not enough to settle it nicely.
    Off-piste Frontside [IMG] to [IMG]
Off-piste Backside [IMG] to [IMG] very good but very variable
    Wombat’s Ramble [IMG] Didn't ski
Other home trails [IMG] Very Good
    Village Roads [IMG] Good

Best skiing (IMHO) was lightly groomed or skier (lightly) packed areas where small bumps were starting to form.

Off-piste was very wind packed. The sastrugi were unbelievable, especially across the unprotected tops. Once you got down a bit, there were pockets of velvety wind pack, but it was very mixed.

    Pick of the day:
    The Slot
    Milk Run Milky Way
    Corkscrew

Didn't ski wombats, but if Hoot was this good, wombats would have been fine too.

yes cover is holding very well. We found thin spots on inter, the maze, apres vous and under FC Express but otherwise the cover is fantastic.
