Well, Falls Creek Hotel is pretty place to have the SIC dinner - but I don't think the 2005 SIC dinner was there - it was that Piano Bar place instead.

Thanks for the pics.
It's hard to concentrate on work when you're busting to get your first ski for the season.
I've got the next two weekends at Falls and I hope we get that extra 20cm.
It's been raining in melbourne all afternoon. Has there been any fresh snow yet?

FC Hotel doesn't have room for outside diners, so can't see it being an option. at smiggs we bounced around a few good ideas but can't really follow up till next year

About 1cm or a dusting of fresh today. Complete white out, but...wind wasn't too bad. Sorta just gotta bear it!

Tomorrow should be much of the same. Expecting no more then 10cm out of it.

Best snow of the week so far today. There is about 5-10cm of fresh dry-ish snow about the back. Loved first tracks down Summit Ridge, Big Dipper, Southside (all this area now has virtually full cover) and out the back of Ruined. Fast Hoot and Last Hoot are now both open and there are heaps of stashes around.

Snow quality is much better then on Tuesday. For those heading up, this will be weekend of the season without a doubt.

Early this morning it looked like being a whiteout, but later the cams showed it lifting a bit so I headed up. Light was very flat most of the time I was out, with occasional good visibility. Mainly skied around Scotts and was intending to check out other runs when I had to call it quits because of equipment problems. It snowed lightly, intermittently, sometimes wet sometimes dry. No accumulation in the car park, but probably was up higher. Groomers were good when you could see, but just chopped enough to make me cautious when light was poor. Light was too poor for me to go off-piste except skier packed Corkscrew and Sundown. Both had scrubby bits to avoid but plenty of cover for fun. Some "surprises" on Sundown in the flat light - saw one bloke wipe out in an invisible ditch.

Village roads have cover but it is really heavy slush and care is needed not to break through to bitumen

Superb morning today, International and Big Dipper were open to Gully, great snow for an hour or two. From about lunch, Big Dipper became pretty patchy and heavy from the sun, but will be enough to outlast the busy weekend ahead.

i had a fun day out in the sun today. The whole summit/inter area is still too light on. we didnt spend much time around there. another 20-30 or so early next week would mean game on!

Any ideas as to why they didnt open ruined park today?

Yep meant Zipper. Mid Section was OK till about 11. I reckon with a bit of snow pushing they will be able to keep it open for another few days at least.

Enjoyable skiing and good conditions on Saturday.

Clear and sunny early and thought it was going to end up very warm but it only reached 2 or 3c at the base and probably stayed below zero up high thanks to some partial cloud later.

Summit area was nice at the top and soft into Village Run and International although it was still good skiing. Plenty of people skiing The Slot and The Knolls despite the shrubbery.

Same goes for Last Hoot, which degraded a lot during the day with rocks poking through further down. Wombats has impressive cover thanks to the snowmaking.

The back is in very good condition as you'd expect. The cover is very good until you get to Rapunzels and Powderkeg which need a little more snow. Scott and Ruined Castle have almost complete cover and the snow quality was very good on and off-piste, especially all around Ruined Castle which was the pick of the day for us. There were even a few opportunities for some fresh lines in this area.

Cold days and nights are keeping the snow in great condition. Unusually for me, I was out for first lifts on Saturday and had perfect corduroy on Ruined Castle. The crowds have been pretty hectic over the weekend, especially on Saturday. The idiot quotient was fairly high. Groomers over the back are in great condition. Off-piste is wind-packed and too crusty for me except for skier packed areas which are great, if you don't mind a bit of shrubbery slalom

Village roads getting very thin at heavy traffic points

As a Falls first timer in a fortnight, what areas/runs are considered 'over the back' so I can take a peak at the online trail map.

Unless currawong meant something else in particular, "over the back" normally refers to the areas serviced by Drover's Dream, Towers, Lakeside, Scott and Ruined Castle lifts.

yep, "over the back means all the runs/lifts from Ruined Castle to Drovers. Falls is basically laid out along a spur.On the front side are the lodges, FC Express and Eagle chairs and then the bowl/summit area with Summit and International lifts. Over the back are the south facing runs on the other side. These runs do not go to as low an altitude and also get much less sun, therefore the snow lasts better.

Can anyone give me an idea of what the ruined castle terrain park is like at the moment? Eg what features they have? I'm mainly interested in some good sized booters...

Back last night from a glorious 1 week at Falls.

Couldn't believe our luck arriving last Sunday as the snow just dumped in time.
Fantastic photos above - have some similar - might post later.

Didn't take too much notice, but there is a good amount of stuff there now, albeit, it was all shut when I was up. Not sure why.

2 fair sized kickers in the park under RC, unfortunately none of the RC cams (check the skifalls site) show anything of their true size.

Skiied today.

Scotts - great
Shadow Ridge - cover was fine, pretty icy however.
Ruined - pretty good
Home trails - fine
Summit - horrid
Village/skyline - so close to horrid they may as well be.

Never got over to mainstreet / drovers area.

Forecast for next few days is borderline snow/rain. If its rain it will be ugly.

yep, best place to be. I avoid Towers/Drovers like the plague too many ppl and out of control beginners.

Scotts/Ruined gives you the opportunity to move between them when one gets busy

Re: Falls has snow!

Had a great weekend at Falls.
Weekend didn't start weel lining up with 30 cars at the parking ticket box at 8.20am and only one side open until 8.30am. Mentioned it was busy and the booth attendant sais, "Yes, we thought this might happen." Not good enough FCM.
Snow conditions were great over the back. A bit of fresh man made stuff made St Elmo's fun on Sunday.
Beaut weather and lifts moved well.

were you in a party of 2 adults and 2 kids with a ski.com jacket?

Yes. Wifey had the ski.com.au jacket on, I had a red one on. Today I had a ski.com.au one one (well till lunch when I came in just ahead of the rain!).

Snow started about 6am this morning and snowed reasonably heavily until about 9am when it turned to drizzle for about an hour. We probably got 2-5cm in that time. Drizzle did no damage. Rain started about midday and has switched a few times between heavy rain, heavy snow and drizzle fingers crossed for tonight.

At 8am things looked promising!
