Devastating news. I suspect Ben Lomond needs the pub to maintain critical mass. I skied there in 2016, a year when the pub wasn't operating and despite good snow, the place didn't have the vibe required, partly because the cafe was so packed you couldn't move and partly because any town (or tourist resort) needs a decent pub. Hopefully the insurance fine print means it has to be rebuilt, rather than the owners just getting the money to do what they like with. In the meantime, those dreadful old containers they used as shelters at Mt Mawson in the years between knocking down Sitzmark and building the new Sitzmark Mark II may have a new home?
Not good! Hoping there's a decent insurance cover and can get some facilities up and running in a short while.
Well that's bad news My sister went to BL all the way from Qld a few years back and really enjoyed the place
Seems to happen with monotonous regularity in remote places that are dependent on such facilities. And they never get rebuilt
Tend to agree there Tecks, just look at Buffalo!! Perhaps there's an issue with insurance on crown leases - or lack thereof? Let's hope the hotel is rebuilt - it won't be much fun partaking in post-skiing celebrations - in a shipping crate!
