Unfortunately unconfirmed reports of property’s being impacted by the fire at Menai and Barden Ridge.

Choking on smoke from the Menai blaze tonight here in Bondi, even with 26km/h SW’ly breeze. It’s too hot to close windows and too Smokey inside to bother closing them. Shall be a wheezey evening...

They were burning out the last major pockets yesterday and last night. I'd expect it to start reducing from this morning.

Fire restrictions were lifted on Tuesday, so many idiots tried burning off today with mid 20s temps and severe weather warning out for destructive winds. vic emergency app notifications for out of control fires in our vicinity were going off all day. Property down the road had 7 trucks attend.

Effing morons. So next time we have a warm dry autumn, they won't lift the fire restrictions in May, because of a few idiots.

It was a controlled burn which escaped.

Australia must have a big conversation about its urban and suburban relationship with forests and fire. If you are unable to do controlled burns anymore, what does that do to your risk profile of residences adjacent to forests?

This fire escaped from burning off harvested bluegum plantation which is being converted back to pasture for pivot irrigated industrial dairy. Is in the greater Margaret River area, but a significant distance from actual town.

It is the third escape from same property in last four weeks. Each time, the property managers have been warned not to light up & has been tying up firefighter resources. The most recent escape, water supply was down to 300 gallons at community hall that was nearly lost. The owner is a multi millionare kunst who happily pays his 'workers' (slaves) in cow manure, while the fire fighting has been done by people like my volunteer parents who are out all night at the fire, in their sixties.

Meanwhile, nearby burns being sensibly done for asset protection in the 'unique' May conditions had to be halted & will not be able to be completed with tight burn window now closed.

A conversation along those lines occurs every september in Springwood at the bushfire conference The time window for effective HR is becoming ephemeral.

My brothers home is in an alert area in Albany, but should be far enough away to be safe. Mum and Dad are high on the hill above Dog Rock with an incredible view of the fires burning across the bay. It’s pretty scary having such a rampant fire with the gale force winds we have at the moment.

Pic from the Albany Advertiser Facebook page.

Quite a lot of anger around about the blaze that's effected the Stirling Range National Park.

As far as I'm aware no lives have been lost in the fires, but farms/livestock, and some other properties have been effected.

    And early reports suspect arson.
