Lightning strike grass fires out near Barwon Heads airport. Saw a few trucks heading to it. No aerial support needed yet.

If embers don't jump the dam then that's a pretty good containment line on one edge at least

Oh they are doing a good job to contain this fire no doubt....It’s obviously caused grief in this catchment area though.

Teck- now that the Thomson fire has grown to its current size, do u think they will contain it by the weekend?

Bad day and the width of the Thompson Dam will not stop its progression east.....potential to spot right over and beyond.....let’s hope the weather remains favourable for considerable time.
All of the big fires to date in east, west Gippsland have been a problem to contain and control.
The fuel moisture is bloody low.....fire activity overnight has been only marginally slowed on these big blazes.

The DSE ,CFA and and all concerned are doing a top job.....let’s hope the weather stays favourable.
Fingers crossed !They will have already made provision for the event that it motors east into new country.
Tek.. will have a better idea.....stay safe all crews on ground and above ....

Wow, they predicted those maps wrong. I drove from Coburg to Strathbogies on Weds night and it was non stop lightning the entire way. So full on it was even strobing in parts. With so many trucks on the road it was a nightmare trip with a lot of spray making visibility terrible.

It was a very odd day for fires yesterday – quite cool with southerly winds. We had 3 fires to our south and 2 of them were within 4km, all caused by lightning the night before and flaring up in yesterday’s wind. We had helicopters buzzing all afternoon waterbombing the shit out of them… we’re lucky we live in an area serviced by springs and an aquifer = lots of water, despite the dryness.

We were under two Advice alerts and the Watch and Act was pulled back to the other side of Ruffy where some friends have saved their home but lost all fencing and paddocks. I had the car packed and buckets filled and sprinklers going around the south side of the garden and then it was wait and see, watching for embers. One neighbour from a bush block came here for a few hours, another evacuated to Euroa. All 3 fires are contained now but there will be crews on the Boathole fire for the coming week.

Just in from a community meeting with the usual suspects - CFA, Council, DWELP, Ambo vic etc etc. You should have heard the Council hand balling the difficult questions around to each other, it was pathetic and illicited many groans and rolling of eyes from farmers whose livelihoods are at stake while the council sit in their offices and their contractors are out doing roadwork with heavy machinery on 40c+ TFB days.

There are some concerns for Sunday's weather and flare ups in smouldering stumps from the lightning storm but back to the daily grind and leaving the car packed.

Hope it all calms down soon. We had fires close in 2003, 2006 and 2009 so i can relate to what're you going through. Very stressful.

Not too much breeze in Mitta Mitta....Team Bears off to do a little work.

Bush is primed to burn....better get rain real soon....otherwise NE will get like Gippsland ....with crews tied up patrolling contained /controlled fires fir weeks ....looks like possibility of thunderstorms tonight looking skyward..let’s hope it doesnot happen.
Tomorrow will not bring much joy.......if wind picks up from north tomorrow it will be a shocker..

A bunch of deliberately lit fires down the Mornington Peninsular today.
One was just behind the Eagle chairlift at Arthur's Seat.

Interesting day Tommoz fire wise!! Doesn’t look very good with winds pretty much nor westerly most of the day for the Eastern half of state. Fairly stiff to at about 30-40k and would expect higher gusts imo
Challenging day, let’s hope we can keep the going fires at bay and we get no new starts.

Looks like some troughing is owed to Tas by Wednesday, hopefully putting an end to their horrific bushfires.
Where it doesn't there's a cold snap likely to eventuate next weekend that should quell it further.

ABC radio reporting out of control fire near Hepburn Springs with residents advised to leave

(Hepburn Springs is almost contiguous with Daylesford - both very popular weekend getaways close to Melbourne)

50mm statewide would be a good start.

Easterly infeed should be good for RH around the Huon fire.

Flank fire looks to have take off on Central Plateau towards Liawenee.

Some really interesting fire behaviour data to come after these bastards are done.

Storms in Mitta Mitta..didnot see any lightning on way diwn from Camp Mulhe .....it rained a little...roads are steaming...Mitta Mitta absolutely still.....wind=zero....

Winds were light all day up at Camp Mulhe...warm and still on Saturday Night....can hear some thunder in distance...

But as we drove towards Wodonga ...it was very black out to the east.
NE fared better than other less fortunate areas

Emergency Warning just came through for northern NSW.
Looks like most of the fires on the map are to the north of Sydney. The next couple of hours are typically when things kick off, let's hope everyone behaves
