Team Leader borrowed The Igloo Owners Push Bike and road along Lady Talbot to commence work.Well we rolled down hill with firm brake pressure.Road a bit of the flats and walked the bike on the uphill sections.

Now once at the work site we took a while to cut through the three medium diam logs on this final section.
Two groups of walkers past us ....a total of seven people!.

We even took out the small diam tree on the first section of Keppels Hut 4x4 Track..Only the big tree close to Mt Margaret on LTDve needs to be clambered over(A big tree).
The Team Leader was a bit dodgy on that bike.......different muscles needed on the trike.

We are hot and buggered but recovering at Igloo in Buxton.

Chainsaw is now out of the bush.

No further debri has fallen on Mt Margaret Rd.It’s fast and dry.
That sun is mighty strong.....knocked us around a bit today.

The sun is vicious at this time of the Year. Maybe a proper Mtn. Bike would have been better?. Of course if you seldom go cycling then you will be feeling it very soon.

Well the work got done on Saturday....and wind conditions were not a factor....Bears saw forecast for Sunday and were eager to complete works on Saturday.

Team Bears expect further improvements to be undertaken by Lake Mt Management and DSE.But....it is trafficable to walkers and Mt Bike riders .....good places to rest on the numerous sawn logs (humerous)

We all know it's a money for mates project and that it will never ever make a profit.
I can see another round of hut burning happening as soon as the damned things are bbbuilt.

Mr T and myself could more successfully promote a walk in the Baw Baw National Park and the Lake Mt/Mt Margaret Area that would return revenue to local communities.
Utilising Lake Mt and Baw Baw Village accomadation areas!

We would have Staggs Hut and Boundary Hut Rebuit within 12mnths!

While there is no 'on mountain accommodation' at LM , Marysville could provide some options. If The Team Leader had his way then the Boundary hut would be rebuilt with a drop loo, rain water tank and space for 6 people sleeping in bunks , similar to the Mt. Wills summit hut.
Jann's hut ( a.k.a Stagg hut ) would only be rebuilt if it connected with a rebuilt Mt. Whitelaw hut .That would mean slashing a track through the head high scrub at Mustering flat down to the hut.
Building all of these extra huts in national parks and state forests for newbie user pays tourists would upset the VNPA no end.
Mr. Phil Ingmells( VNPA ) is retiring . Somebody else will have to oppose of all of these Lib Lab driven private profit schemes which kill the goose that lays the golden egg.

The planned user pays glampers' huts on the top of the Diamantina spur will mysteriously burn down quite soon after they are built!. I can just sense it !.

We could do so much with the $15million.

Lady Talbot Dve could be made safer from falling trees and extisting infra structure at the Beeches,Phantom Falls ,Keppels Falls etc rebuilt. For the cost of some earth movers and DSE crews for a fortnight.Could only be a single million!

The area must have been marvellous before the major fire !

The Lady Talbot drive area was very good and was promoted as a 2WD family friendly Buxton to Marysville car tour with short walks and picnic sites en route. That is all kaput now. I truly doubt it will ever come back.

Well they could stop waiting for those old dead trees to topple over....and give them a friendly shove .....just along the roadway .....The one that recently fell on the Upper Lady Tabot Dve close by the Mt Margaret Gap Barrier.....is interesting.Half of it disintegrated on impact(one side of the trunk) .....they are a pain in the asse for the DSE/Parks....another ten years and most will have hit the ground anyway!

A bit of pro active forest control......mind you the main Rd to Lake Mt looks a bit surreal as dangerous trees by the highway have been felled and left.....its not a good look but neither is a squashed car or bus!

All of these issues are of no interest to the trained apes in Spring street. The VIC ALP have about 2 seats in the state assembly that are not in Melbourne's greater metro zone.

Went for a day walk around Keppels Hut route with ioad and day pack.Left Snowy Hill Carpark at 2pm and climbed back into car at 8pm.A sunny mild day....cool breeze noticeable on higher sections.Saw one other guy that was staying tonight at Keppels Hut.

Since Team Bears clearing works....two more bits of debri are to be found. One medium diam pole across Keppels Walking track that can be clambered over and a more troublesome addition to Upper Taggerty Rd about half a km back in from Management Gate at Keppels end.

Team Bears took advantage of the fine weather and took the Echo back into the first part of UTRd.(Management Track)
It was a long walk in along Lady Talbot Dve and out to that recent debri.....but it’s been delt with ......just walk through now.

Bears also got the smaller tree on Keppels 4x4 track just up from that open gate at Junction of K4x4 &UTRd.

Saw is in the area....so a visit to Keppels Hut should see the medium pole on walking track finally removed at a future date.

The weather was brilliant...warm but not too hot.The debri was simplified....and you could walk under the leaning branch.....but a quick calculation ...remaining fuel, time required, difficulty involved....sharpness of cutting chain. So we finally cut the big branch completely out....it was on a high angle .....but Bears sorted it out in the final half hour.We were happy with our work.....

Bears have no plans to see what’s on Lower Lady Talbot Dve.

Its possible to ride Mt Bike from Snowy Hill Carpark to Mt Margaret Gap with a side visit to Keppels Hut with minimal obstacles to negotiate.

Walkers staying the night at Keppels Hut seem quite happy with no 4x4s to disrupt their quiet pleasures.

It was bloody hot....but the Team marched up to Keppels Hut from Mt Margaret Gap.The last slope in the sun was a killer.Bears put saw through a few large blocks in the wood shelter for a warm up.Then walked out about half kilometer to get the newly fallen tree.It was dispatched quickly and with ease. Then we returned to Keppels Hut and hid from the sun which was fierce mid afternoon. We came out in more shady conditions under some cloud cover at about six pm.The hottest day we have worked on for sure.

It was a long way to come in for this log with the barriers locked.
We trimmed a few things on the way up Keppels 4x4 track though ...and walked out to the bottom of the steepening track as it will be awhile before the chainsaw comes in again with the roads closed.

Bears feel better today....I think we had mild heat stroke even though we drank heaps with electrolytes mixed in....photos were taken with Nokia phone to reduce weight carried .

Always onto pcv like a rash at every opportunity that one. I don't share his faith in the system. Parts of the Dandenongs are still not open since "the great storm" it's ridiculous. You shouldn't have to kiss up to get things happening, it should just happen it's what they are paid to do.

Parks Victoria Sub contractors have done the same thing on the Grey Hills walking track namely leaving all their cut debris on the trails. We have heard nothing from a humourless indignant school master lecturing them about that but with some forum members it is fine to castigate them for trying to help out. WTF FFS!

Bears saw a snake within 2mins of getting out of diesel at Boundary Track Management Gate......we were on snake alert all day....but we saw no more.A much cooler day for working this arvo.Quite a pleasant and rewarding day.Track is nice and soft on the feet compared to the hard surface of Lady Talbot Dve.

If you have dogs or small children you need to be careful of snakes!

Having an old spare bar with reasonably sharp chain is essential in this work as you will pinch bar at times no matter how careful you are.

Alternatively a work party with two saws is desirable.....not one but two.

We pinched our bar twice.....but as annoying as that is.....ten mins to change to the spare is better than walking out with a bar/chain stuck in the never never!

The forest is drying out.....fire danger not great up there yet but fires will run at the moment in some areas.
Hopefully some rain will fall to reduce the probability of forest fires.

Boundary Track would have been wet and muddy two months ago but is really dry now.

Water still available at creek just prior to Roukes Old Track......marked by plastic tape....little water hole on Nth of track....water flowing actively still.

Bears completed works on lower end of Lady Talbot Dve.
The Team got to the Beeches yesterday and then cut in a more detailed fashion on the way back. The road is locked.....about three giant trees remain across this roadway but mt bikes and walkers can get by easily.

We have seen several folk along here in the last two weekends..some mt bikes and some walkers.
The old tiolets and information sign at Beeches would provide protection from a passing rain storm if you happen to be there at the time.

A large dozer has been roading on the track to the right at the start of this locked management road. The dozer was parked there over the weekend.
Maybe it will go for a spin along LT Dve.??

We don’t want this operator and his assistants isolating regardless of covid..

Bears not even sure of what roading program he has been given but we hope he stays in the area and just keep working away.

Its time that Parks opened up Lower Lady Talbot Area and replaced all stuffed signs and allocated walking track recutting to local volunteer organisations in the Marysville area.

Bears did wave chainsaw around on a trip to tiolet block in the Beeches.....it’s the only shelter in the whole area.

...but so much work could be done if Parks got volunteers engaged on tracks around Cascades/Meeting of the Waters and Beeches with saws and brushcutters.

Well dozer seems to have been floated away.
It has not gone past closed management gate..I doubt they would float it 1/2 km through gate to fallen timber.Bears trying to get into LTDve from near Beeches by dropping into West Fall Track from near Mt M Gap....maybe we will do a little work today.....but it’s bloody hot even in shade in Buxton.A handful of vehicles parked at Management Gate on LTDve Marysville end where dozer was last seen.
