Tokyo def worth a few days. Great city.
Nozawa , then back on Shinkansen to Karuizawa .
Biggest city in the world, worth more than just a few days
spend time in a city or spend time on a snow covered mountain
I know which I'd be choosing
For sure. Eat, drink & soak it up.
I really appreciated the natural beauty and peace and quiet of the Japanese Alps after the intense hustle and bustle of Tokyo.
Also Matsumoto with its sweet castle is also worth a look if you're in the Nagano area doing site seeing
Also a cool Wasabi farm near there (Daio Wasabi Farm). Wasabi beer, wasabi soft serve & everything else wasabi.
Considering then 7 day option. Takes the hassle out.
Just a heads up, the Gondola hotel & OZ Snow is "Aussie" horde central.
I'd try and get 5 days on snow instead of 4 if you can. This year in Niseko I had two days in a row with almost all lifts shut due to a storm (except beginner lift) and I really wished I'd had one more day on snow.
Oh ok thanks for that.
This in spades
This.. I spent a week and a bit this year...from five
Cheers for pointing that we run people across hotaski but I think Ludaning is now pretty much sold on Hakuba and/or Nozawa. Both will suit his purpose so all good.
Really leaning toward Hakuba. 7 Nights. 5 days ski maybe 1 day to see monkeys and matsumoto castle. Also seen you can have a fire festival 'tour' leaving out of hakuba. Then hopefully 2 nights Tokyo.
Anyways will post up whatever I decide to book. Thoughts on accommodation in Hakuba. Someone pointed this out http://www.asukalodgehakuba.com/en/.
Any other suggestions.
So much help in here. Keep it coming.
Its the penke panke group.. so I'm sure it will be ok
Penke Panke is better located than Asuka to get around on the shuttles. Have stayed at both.
Out of all the ones posted
the phat house looks the best.
? stop what?
am more lost than a blind amanda vanstone in a hanger full of sex toys
I'm out .............Iwatake is great during the day.
Im lost. Please explain.
Fish and chips in Iwatake.....................no chance.
If Monkeys and Fire Festival are important then I'd lean toward Nozawa. Both are around 1.5-2 hours drive from Hakuba. You can see Matsumoto Castle if you divert on your way there or back.
Oh you haven't been to the brewery then...
Did once, didn't mix with fish and chips.
Matsumoto castle from Hakuba is easy. Its a easy train ride... its a given.. relative its in the same valley. In a car its even easier....
The monkeys are completely the other direction... still a easy drive with a car... but so much closer to shiga and nozawa...
I don't get how Hakuba tour people relate the snow monkeys to Hakuba, its odd.
IMO Matsumoto is a great city. Its easy to get around and interesting
Not so much important just notice there's an option to do it. So why not if I can.
weather dependent..make your mind up when you wake
if it rains..or shit ....sure
if its snowing EVERY day...
screw the peripherals
Those packages are expensive. 5 days lift tickets. $50 a day including lunch and an on sen with the readily available online vouchers. That's $250. $100 a night pp accom (that's a $200 room so not cheap). That is $700. So we are at $950 per person with your own flexibility and much better accom options.
Im on my own so have to pay full room. Don't forget it includes transfer from Narita. And a few extras. Anyway just one option. I may end up sorting my own stuff.
At Hakuba, Penke Panke has single rooms for around $100/night
Im looking at that Sandy
Keep the snow monkeys as an option for a really shitty weather day. Thats what we did. I'd have rather been skiing.
No need to waste a day at the monkeys when there's a webcam
I choose my seats online?? I assume you are correct re the type of plane - although this is of no interest to me.
You can also do the walk through on Google Street View
Worth 4 days max + 1 day for Disney Sea.
A go to Nozawa................................
IMO it's a really long day to go to Matsumoto and the snow monkeys. Like unpossible to do in winter in daylight long.
Yeah, that's why I'm suggesting do MC on the way to/from. Snow monkeys (which to me is pretty much just a gaijin tourist trap these days) can be done in a half day from Nozawa. Also easy to combine with Zenkoji Temple in Nagano as a day trip.
