Sykora is right, FIS or whoever definitely need to update some of the profile pics. Feller now looks nothing like his. He keeps up his DNF quota sadly. Just as well he saved the best run for the WM.

Really difficult sloppy conditions - guys losing around 1 sec each intermediate time.

Michael Matt wins! Ahead of Stefano Gross & Felix Neureuther. Marcel Hirscher 4th but good enough to also secure the Slalom title to go along with the GS and Overall. An excellent weekend for Marcel.

here, now
interesting that Mikaela's lead in the overall standings is being whittled away
she's on 1323 but Ilka Stuhec is now at 1145, so it could well be close for the rest of the season
the ladies' SG in Korea has seen a win for an Italian - Sofia Goggia - and Lindsey 2nd
the Italians seem to be doing better this season

Stuhec has been dominant recently in the speed disciplines, Shiffrin in the technical ones.
The Italian women have been particularly strong this year. The Italian men (mostly Südtiroler) have been good for a while.

Ilka has great style
notwithstanding the injury list, the women's field is great

Mikaela dominated at Squaw Valley this weekend - wins in both GS and slalom
in slalom Wendy Holdener was ahead after the first run but she stacked just before the finish line on the second - fairly dramatic
so slalom is sown up and probably the overall as well

she skied very well
interesting to see how many seasoned competitors stuffed up
or maybe it was about the average rate
Chiara Costazza did well - she's mid 30s, got 5th
I guess that's about Lindsey's age, but she's superhuman and contains more titanium than most

MS was lucky to win that Holdener had her on toast ..: both runs

watching the women's Super-G today
a fair number of stacks in the lower-middle areas of the course, where the sequences seemed fairly awkward
I know it's not meant to be easy for them, but I wonder whether the designer of the run - one of the German coaches, apparently - gets to answer for that?

someone has to go there
the race is worth watching just to see that issue - it looks fairly clear to me
Lindsey Vonn was one of the casualties, as well as Sofia Goggia and others
both contenders
only 25 invitées for the final race, and it seems a pity for the season to end that way

I was going to mention that Tina Weirather won and just pipped Ilka Štuhec for the overall SG title
also for once the commentators didn't mention Hanni and Harti

Two key crashes were for a different reason than the others: Goggia was absolutely charging when she fell, skied that lower steep section so well she had unexpected speed and line coming out. Vonn's crash was on a completely different part of the course, and again she skied a very aggressive line and clipped a gate trying to straighten out the exit from the airplane turn. Yes there were some DNFs on the lower steep section, lesser athletes struggling with pitch, turny set and late-in-run fatigue. They were late and low, fighting to stay in the course. Not at all like Vonn and Goggia.

This race had men and women competing on the same terrain but a different set for each gender. Unusual to see men and women running speed events on the same track. LL is the only place it happens on the circuit and they have separate weekends. These events ran on the same day, no time for grooming and prep between runs - only inviting 25 per race is to allow this configuration to happen on the same day. I would suspect that the juries and course setters for ladies and mens events agreed to set the ladies course wider so as to leave some clean snow in the middle for the men. Doing it the other way around would have resulted in crazy high speeds for the women and probably even more DNFs. Watch the mens race and you'll see the difference especially in Airplane, the men ran it seemingly almost straight.

Austrian paper Krone reports that Hirscher not happy with the new skis he tested. Back onto the waist. Shorter radius returns ! We are all starting from zero .and i can make a campfire of all my notes from the last 5 years.

The Americans seem to have the knack of finding athletes that dominate. They don't load the top ten all the time like the Swiss and Austrians can, and they go long periods with no results, but when they do put someone on the podium, they generally go on to multiple wins. The Mahres, Tamara McKinney, Bode, Julia Mancuso, Lindsey Vonn, and now Mikaela. The Norwegians seem to have the same development model - smaller on numbers but bigger on quality and consistency.

Very likely will be at next seasons Streif event for the 3rd time. Cant think of a better day off skiing activity.

The night slalom in Schladming in the week after is huge as well. Was I think 50,000 this year, even more than the Kitzbühel slalom.
