Ja typisch Schwitzerdütsch. Braucht sicher untertitel!!

Sometimes I will watch the race on Swiss TV for a bit of a laugh. The regular professional commentator I can normally mostly understand, but the expert ex skier will be very much more dialect and I am almost completely lost. After a bit of that I'll switch back to Austrian dialect version which I can better relate to mostly, although I'll still struggle with some of the skier interviews with their strong regional dialects.
one of my Åre buddies is a German/Swiss polyglot who understands this strange phraseology
I got her to translate one of Tina’s other clips
I did 6 years of german at school, no use whatsoever

I remember saying earlier in this thread watching Swiss skiers being interviewed on Austrian (and Swiss) TV. Possibly the easiest one to understand was Murisier - a normal French speaker so spoke a closer approximation to Hochdeutsch than the German Swiss with their dialect.
I also struggle with the Südtiroler dialect which is somewhat similar, especially Dominik Paris.

the Ukraine team at Åre spent a fair bit of their time cruising around town in a Bentley Bentayga
not sure how their skiers went in any actual races

So first run finally completed. 100 started, 62 completed, 38 DNF's.
Notable performance from Tiziano Gravier from Argentina with bib 62 finishing 28th 4.8 secs behind, but qualifying for 2nd run. Also the last starter bib 100 from India did complete the run albeit 32 secs down.

Crazy finish in the GS. Pinturault had a big lead but skied out in 2nd leg as did several others.
Also realised that rules are different here than for World cup in that top 60 qualify for second run rather than just top 30 in World cup. I guess when you have 100 starters and many of them from all over the place here just for 1 or 2 events you want to give them chance of 2 runs. In the end 44 completed both runs.
Austrias weakest discipline at the moment is clearly GS so were figured to be in contention, but Schwarz managed to echo Liensberger for season best result for a bonus bronze.

Could have a team by first names. Austria could field Team Katharina - Liensberger, Truppe, Huber & Galhuber. ;)
Can't think of any others offhand.
the start list for women’s slalom has four women from Iceland with the suffix ‘-dottir’ in their surnames ie ‘daughter of -‘
same naming convention as the Swedish one that gave us Frida Hansdotter
her father’s name is Hans Johansson ie ‘son of Johan’

My viewing options. SRF2 (Swiss) and ORF1 (Austrian) covering the skiing, Eurosport the tennis.

Kathy's time looking good. Bib #1 was a good result. Snow looking softer today.

Been enjoying watching replays and post race interviews with Katharina on Austrian TV.
Also a bit of a preview of the men's slalom with Michael Matt. There was a suggestion that organisers are concerned with forecast warmer temps so may run only the top 15 in reverse order in the 2nd run rather than the top 30.

commentary on ‘Katrina’ Liensberger’s technique
interesting reference to dancing, which has also figured in analysis of Mikaela’s technique

Never would have associated harp playing with contributing to good hand position!
Also on the forced ski contract change form Kästle to Rossignol, she talked about that in her interview last night as being her most difficult period which forced he to miss Sölden in 2019. Wasn't even sure if she was going to continue, but ultimately learnt from it and now feels better for it.

She is from Vorarlberg, but is thankfully not speaking Vorarlberger dialect. Maybe as she is on national TV she is speaking more or less Hochdeutsch. I have much more trouble for example understanding the Tirolers when they are speaking dialekt.
The Vorarlberger dialekt is quite different and tends more to Swiss. I can sometimes pick it if it sounds a bit like Swiss but I can actually understand it a little bit.

Blackie with a mistake lower down puts him over half a second down, so a bit of work to do on the second run.

Also confirmed that only top 15 start in reverse order, so need to be amongst them to have any chance.

Getting the right rhythm in the first few gates on the steep looks to be key here.

Still some reasonable times possible. Winters with bib #38 makes it into top 15.

Much closer times today. Top 14 all within 1 sec.
A few in that top 15 have never been in that position before, so will be an interesting test.

100 starters, 55 completed first run so all get to start second run, but only top 15 with any chance.

Adrian, good but not quite.. but silver his best ever placing
Not bad considering he was probably only 4th on the team selected just ahead of Gstrein.

Current placings after top 15. Lower placings may change but top 3 are set.
edit. Top 30 down no change, plenty more DNFs

They superimposed Foss-Solevaag & Pertl's runs. Looks like Pertl lost it just on the second last gate with outside ski in the air.
