After a break of a few days from the World championships, the World cup season gets back underway shortly with a women's downhill in Val di Fassa a short distance away from Cortina.

In the meantime the Nordic world championships have started in Oberstdorf. Currently showing the jumping leg of the nordic combination. This is to establish starting position for the cross country ski leg. A couple of japanese leading at the moment.

Connie Hütter has her first race after an almost 2 year break with ACL injury. A long way off the pace in training as would be expected.

Will be a different winner today. Winner of the last 4 races and points leader Sofia Goggia is out injured.

No Ledecka here as she has a conflict with her snowboard schedule. They have their World champs coming up. Not easy to juggle!

First 20 completed. Lara continues her good form and looks to have the win. Ramona happy with 2nd. She had a very solid world championships with 3 5th places, but in the end nothing to show for it.

Still quite a few to start but wouldn't expect much change to these placings.

Ski cross athletes are in Georgia - the country, not the state - for world cup round this weekend. Qualifying is especially important this time because as well as tomorrow's individual race there is a team event on Sunday, with points awarded for the crystal globe hunt based on the national team's placing.

The French dominated qualifying with three athletes in the top ten. Canada's young athletes lead the way for their veterans, with the welcome return from injury of Brady Leaman, gold medallist from Peyongchang. Good racing coming up, I just wish it was at a more friendly time than 3 am.

Goggia still leads DH standings but being out injured, Suter and Gut-Behrami can claim title in the final race, which would be a little unfair. Lara would need to win, Corinne top 2.

2nd Bansko GS. Like yesterday Faivre leading after first run. Some quite significant time differences. Only top 8 within 2 secs.

Kajsa Vickhoff Lie very nasty fall. That looked ugly. Twisting, tumbling fall and into the nets. Skis didn't release. She sounds in pain.

A bit of new snow overnight in Saalbach, overcast and a bit of fog about. Hopefully ok for the start shortly.

Not looking promising. Still snowing and race director saying they still need at least half an hour to clear snow if it does stop. Latest possible start time 2pm local (1.5 hrs away).

Comments on the course in Jasna was that it an "easy" one ie. had no real technical difficulties, so you had to really attack. Looking much the same for the GS.

Bailet goes into 2nd - where did that come from?
Sadly that means Vince doesn't clinch Super-G title today.
