Flight centre have sale on flights to Canada ending 11 September.
Just booked return to Calgary for $1210 pp on Air Canada from Brisbane mid Jan 2020. $500 cheaper than cheapest AC flight I searched on Thursday. Booyah! first step taken for a 5 month trip.

What sort of masochist pays to travel long haul on AC sardine class? They really should be paying you.

This one has not yet but would. I happily fly economy on Virgin/Qantas/Singapore. Or is your point that Air Canada economy some way different?
I can handle 14 hours of minor inconvenience if it means I save hundreds of dollars.
I am also the person that couldn't bring myself to pay business/first class despite being able to afford it. A senseless waste of hard earned coin.

Yes AC economy is about the worst I’ve endured on a supposedly full service airline, but yes to save a few hundred bucks per person I wouldn’t hesitate.

787-9 aircraft used out of BNE. A lot better than the 777 out of SYD with the 3-4-3 format, that's the sardine class you're talking about. The Brissy crew get the 3-3-3 setup and better seats to boot.
