I haven't stayed in Jindabyne for a while, but last minute booking means it was the only real option. Does anyone have any favourite places to eat out in town for Dinner? All cuisines and price points ok (I'm used to Thredbo prices)

    Everywhere is good.

Except the fishnchip shop. Too often old burnt oil. Sometimes good sometimes bin.

If you can travel a bit, Jodie does a cracking dinner at the Crackenback Farm (Opposite Wild Brumby on the Alpine way).

To steal a thread - any good options for lunch? We'll be coming from Corryong over the Alpine Way on Sunday, and I think lunch in Jindy sounds better than having it up at Perisher.

For cake and coffee the new bakery at nuggets (Nimmitabel bakery I think) next to the Perisher office is Yummy. Great treats.

    Thanks for all the recommendations!

Have done Birchwood and Jindabyne Seafood before on lunch stops. Would rate Birchwood, one of the better little cafes in regional Australia. The fish and chips is decent and does well if you want something cheap and cheerful.

Bacco looks nice and I do have a soft spot for Japanese, so i'll definitely try those out.

    Birchwood is the best cafe.

Cocina is great. My favourite place in town.
Burger place is expensive, but great for a quick calorie hit, and they have a huge range of American BBQ and chilli sauces if you like that kind of thing
Banjos bistro is not too bad for a quick and reasonably priced predictable pub meal

Went there recently on friends recommendation and won’t be back. Burnt the living daylights out of two pizzas and soggy pasta. Not hard to get those thing right and critical to an Italian restaurant. I used to own an Italian restaurant myself. Maybe they had an off night.
They asked me how the meal was so I told them. Not rudely but passed on the feedback. Now here is your moment to shine and they blew it. I got a blank look and a shrug of the shoulders. They could have said sorry sir, we were under the pump or any excuse and offered 10% off the bill or some form of platitude and we would have accepted as a one off and given them another try, but no, charged full tilt and not even a sorry.
They weren’t that busy on the night so you’d expect things to be on point.

That's unfortunate that you had a bad experience there. I've been there many times over the summer and winter and never had a problem, I found them really consistent. Everyone is entitled to an off day though I suppose.

I usually get the Scoglio seafood pasta. The carpaccio is easily my favourite though - raw kingfish with pomegranate, mandarine, basil and partisan cheese. Epic combo of flavours

I had a similar experience in The Market on Saturday. I was hanging with the rents at their stall in NPWS building and had heard good things about The Market. I didn't see any other entrance other than the deck. It's a ramp to get down onto it and then steps down to the door.

I stumble on the ramp and to get in the awkward door. I was a bit embarrassed at my ineptitude on getting in the store I nervously stated "gee your entrance isn't very disabled friendly, hahaha"

They were horrified, not in a "oh dear so sorry, actually we have an unmarked dead flat entrance over here"

But in a "how dare you criticise our amazing store" way.

I promptly left - having spotted the other door (unmarked on either side!).

we stayed in Jindy last weekend so got to check out a couple more places.

When we arrived on Friday night it was already around 2000 and we knew we were going to struggle to get in at any restaurants. The plan was to go to burger biz try our luck at getting abused and an overhyped burger.

We collected the keys to the accommodation from Base, so thought we would try our luck and see if we could get into the Mexican. No luck but we did manage to book for the Saturday night. Anyway I then noticed the Indian restaurant Raj Tandoori, it was pretty empty so I was apprehensive. In the end the feed was fantastic, would recommend, would go again.

Saturday I finally got to the Mexican which I have been wanting to go to for a few years now. For the record I have been craving Mexican since I moved to Canberra, they have no worthy Mexican restaurants. It was good, would eat there again.

I had a wander into The Market the other day looking for some GF muesli and a coffee .... 3 people doing things but no acknowledge of my existence, hung for a bit and walked out so no idea about the food or coffee offerings

Cafe Darya is good, also Angies, Mesa, Cocina, Indian and Thai takeaway.

It's a tough gig getting committed customer focussed staff in winter

I went to a pretty good Chinese restaurant a couple of years ago. I think it was part of the same complex where most of the hire shops are. The Italian pizza restaurant at Nuggets is pretty good as well.

Was that Beach Burrito Co or the Cantina joint? I remember years ago when the Mexican food craze kicked in and then that Cantina joint opened in old town centre, it was so packed every single night during peak season you would have to book way in advance. Went there once and it was just mayhem, not overly enjoyable and can't even recall if the food was any good :D Would have been maybe 2012 season....
I really rate Beach Burrito Co and know the guys who started it all up....they are doing very well for themselves

The food (and the ale) at the Jindy Brewery is superb. Food is tapas style stuff - skewers are especially good.
