i have seen a number of people dumped off the chair on load this year and one guy hurt badly enough to stop it for 20 mins .i think the moving carpet system works well but some people don't get it and get confused perhaps by the village 8 system where it delivers you to a spot where you stop and then sit down . I am not sure how they can address this but the info guys checking for ticket cheats should maybe be a bit more involved in giving info on what to expect when you get on

I was only thinking about this myself
1 - it is too low and hits you in the back of calf
2 - when you slide off the snow onto carpet you actually slide along the carpet some distance, this puts the timing out. if they fix these I think will be ok

Have not caught this yet, but are you on a moving carpet when you load on to the chair? This is not unique and lets them run the chair faster without it being detachable.

Of all the chairs at Perisher I found the new chairlift with the carpet to be the least painfull on the back of the legs and that was with no assistance from the lifties.
I wonder how it works if you are at the loadpoint and the lift stops and then restarts???.

From memory the chair height at offload was a bit high (for kids)?

Just a little, but very low on-load.
I think people look at the end of the carpet approaching and think they will run out of room before the chair catches them so start to panic a little.
My thoughts are that some of the lifties need a little more training to help the punters

Yep. I saw a lifty sitting and just watching the carnage. Bigger problem seems to the top. Too steep, boarders trying to skid down the ramp with one foot loose. Messy.

When Vail installed their first carpet-load lift (a 6-seater with the carpet operation like the V8 one not the Freedom Chair style) last year, they produced a "training video" for customers:

I have a distant memory that there used to be two t-bars there, many years ago.... could be wrong. Well before snowboards were around.

Freedom height getting on perfect for kids aged 8 and 11 so a tiny bit low for tall people perhaps. Top not a problem for them.... the jump to get off Ridge Chair a lot worse.

When Freedom chairs are icey it makes it a bit more difficult to get and stay on.

I was on the Freedom Chair when it stopped for 20 mins the other day
Apparently quite a nasty back injury at the load
Nearly caused my own "incident" because my leg went to sleep so I had to "one ski" it off the top!
    Why no footrests?????
I think the problem is the moving carpet makes people think the chair speed is matched to the speed of the carpet or that the chair is detachable grip and will slow on pick-up
    It doesn't.
It actually comes around the bull wheel at a fair clip and the lifts were yelling out"here it comes" when I was riding it
So you have 2 things to think about...riding the moving carpet and looking behind you for the speeding on-coming chair
It's fine once you've ridden it a couple of times, but I can imagine it causing some issues for people

I want to know why they thought a 3-gate system would be ideal for a 4 seater chairlift...

Not only that but why do they line you up in 4's then also have a single line and then 5 people try to get through the 3 gate system. It is madness at busy times. I used the T-bar when it was busy. No lines and seemed quicker.

    yep that's very silly
it might work better if the first gate was a bit further back from the second gate
but really I don't get why they haven't committed more staff to it
last weekend of the school hols they only had two teenagers running it at the bottom
doing their best but they were up against it

I really have no idea where people are skiing these days, but I thought Perisher staff were brilliant compared with most other resorts I've visited. They always had staff at the singles line merge, ensuring 4's were formed, when it was busy.

Seriously, if folks can't stay in 4's after the merge, then perhaps the whole concept of skiing may be beyond them.

We're paying over $100 a day, for current staffing and equipment levels. I think we pay enough.

Freedom Chair is an awesome chair. Moves peeps quick, with minimal staffing levels and initial outlay.

It is located in a remote area. Really no need to venture out there, if it scares you.

I certainly don't want to pay an extra $10 a day, to cater to a handful of peeps, who perhaps, shouldn't be there.

Every time a chair goes up with a vacant seat, one punter from the next row should be selected at random and hit with an electric cattle prod. That'll sort 'em out.

I agree with this post generally @Astro66
Keep in mind tho that it has replaced the Poma which was essentially a beginners lift for the Guthega kids.
Guthega has been compromised to a fair degree with removal of the Poma IMO.
Viz wind hold all week as one example.

We were told by one of the green jackets a few weeks ago that it's because the gates process people faster than the chair can load people.
What a load of cr@p. Same at Pleasant Valley chair. 3 gate for a quad. What were Perisher thinking?!?!?

Saves them money, installing 3 gates is cheaper than 4. And remember this moving carpet is a poor mans detachable express. The whole project looks like they've tried to cut corners and bring down the cost.

I can remember dangling from one of these way back eons ago and then also being dragged up the hill still with ski attached. Something for funniest home videos I think.

I remember getting a whole lot of air going UP that poma when both it and I were a lot younger.

Freedom spinning today but line got long quick. Moved to the t bar. After early lunch did a experiment, say 11.30ish. Most of us did the tbar. One went freedom as a single.... we waited at the top of a good 15 mins. Time to move on.

Took me an hour to get out of Guthega on a busy pow day, before the freedom chair.

Poma or no poma, If it's not running, zero chance I'm going anywhere near Guthega.
