ABC Gardening Australia serial on Japanese gardens. On right now. Beautiful. You can probably catch it on ABC iView.
Very interesting story regarding the Japanese cherry trees. Who would have thought? I’m going to leave that hanging so you will all have to watch to find out (unless it’s well known in which case ignore me. Or do so anyway)
We have a nice garden although I dont spend enough time in it so its a long way from being as good as some of our neighbors. Im sorry dont have any cracking photos except these at the moment. The large rock feature is actually a waterfall fed from a pond above it via a pump. The Large tree is Sakura, Im no photographer but here's a pic, the big difference is that most of the other plants and grass havent bounced back from winter yet at that time of year. And finally here is the view from our deck although most of the land you see is not ours. Im often amused when shows refer to Japanese influences etc in gardens and home design when its more Scando than Nihon. EDIT: We have also started on a court yard style garden but have some ways to go. That rock was HEAVY! Will try and get better photos of it all once it finally stops raining.
There's a nice garden in the back yard at my place in Yokohama. It's about 30m x 20m. Speaking of gardening shows, I used to hate the way Don Burke used to say "bonzai" instead of "bonsai".
This one is not unusual in rural Japan. Just up the road from our place in Tomamu. The guy who owns and builds this garden told me he plans to spend his days, till he dies, working in his garden, listening to music, and when he gets tired, reading novels. He pretty much lives off the grid, no internet, old record player for music with huge collection of records and a refurbished deserted farm house that he lives in. He has taken "bonsai" to a new level with mini cows, dogs and full mini replica homes.
I don't have green fingers, so last northern winter we visited this museum. Beside the indoor art there is a very nice outdoor Japanese garden. https://www.adachi-museum.or.jp/ If you ever come to that area worth a visit. And you can have day onsen together beside it. http://www.yasuragi.or.jp/~yasugien/
Part 2 on now. The show is called Monty Don’s Japanese Gardens and is a spin off of Gardening Australia. Apparently next week he starts a French gardens special.
