We are a socially aware bunch and are protesting gillette.

We sat in a little circle in the snow and burned our razors!

This morning we left Sun Peaks and made the sad journey back to Vancouver.

Tomorrow we head back to Oz and reality but Canada was kind enough to provide us a fitting sunset to our travel extravaganza

    Another bonus.

Checked into Cathay Pacific Vancouver with an extra suitcase and was expecting a USD350 charge which didnt happen.

I suspect it was my dazzling smile and witty charm that distracted the poor unsuspecting lady at the check-in

My Surface decided to poop itself 2 days before the end of the holiday.

It froze while I was using it, so I shut it down by holding the piwer button down for 15 seconds as recommended, but now it wont power up again.

I will handit over to a computer nerd as soon as I get back and if no success I’m hoping it’s still in its extended warranty period

So we have returned to reality and been back in Perth for 4 full days now.

We landed at Perth airport at 6am on the public holiday Monday and the day went on to be 39.6 degrees – fortunately we spent all day in the air-conditioned house.

On the Minday evening I went and saw Phil Collins in concert (brilliant as usual)) and then up at 5.30am Tuesday morning for the first day back at work after 2 months absence.

Gave work a giggle with the beard, which doesn’t look too bad for 2 months, but will be shaved off this weekend.

During our adventure we drove a total of over 3,900kms. We rented a Kia Sorrento which cost us $4,200 including CDW. It wasn’t a pleasure to drive, but it did the job – it had a few little operating quirks that I couldn’t intuitively figure out, but worst of all was how easily it would wander on the road, and so I had to constantly bring it back into a straight line, which meant I got to see far less of the scenery whilst driving than I’d hoped. It wasn’t in need of an alignment as it would wander either way – it just didn’t feel like the steering wheel was connected to the wheels by anything more than a lacky band.

There were two parts of the holiday that didn’t quite go as expected. For our return to SP the second time, we stayed with some close friends, and when you live with people, you learn more about their quirks than is normal, but without going into details, it’s unlikely that we will share accommodation again.

And the biggest letdown? We were hoping to catch up with a good and old friend in SP. Well he, due to circumstance ended up moving to Kelowna, so we completely changed our itinerary and added 5 days in Kelowna, and leading up to and during our time there we were completely ignored, apart from being insulted at one point. So we cut our Kelowna stay to return to SP early and we can assume that friendship is history.

    So overall?

    · The holiday was absolutely faaaantastic (apart from the above).

    · Two months wasn’t too long apart from financially, costing over $30k.

    · That includes about $4k spent on two sets of skis, one pair of boots, and a variety of clothing

    · I still absolutely adore Sun Peaks and would love to call it our second home one day.

    · The SP locals are so friendly and they even remember our names.

    · And it’s fantastic to catch up with so many fellow forum members

    · We experienced some shocking road conditions causing us to get “stuck” in Banff for 2 days, and incur 3 extra days on unplanned accommodation changes – we are now claiming that back through our travel insurance. We planned on this happening at some stage and had fat built into the plan to cater for it.

    · I purchased some Oakley Prizm sunglasses with yellow lenses (in Revelstoke) to help my eyes handle the flat light, snowy driving conditions we were continuously experiencing (which work rather well)

    · We only scored about 10 days of full sunshine in the whole trip.

    · Ban-f-f is absolutely stunning – we will definitely be back

    · We had never even heard of Canmore – thanks Jason.

Nikki wants to do some more renovations in the kitchen, so I’m thinking we might have to skip a year but we will definitely be back the following year. Hopefully I can convince a couple of my sons along as well.

Sorry to hear about the two “people glitches” - it happens. I’ve a had a couple of similar situations over the years also, you just have to shrug your shoulders and say “their loss”, or decide not to share accomodation with them in future.

Fortunately when you do put yourself out there regularly, most situations turn out great.

Do you think the road wandering might have had to do with sliding on frozen road/lack of tyre grip rather than slack steering?

Have to catch up to hear more details and Niks version :emoji_champagne_glass:

The accommodation glitch wasnt major but you certainly learn a bit more about your friends. Be happy to holiday with them again.

    The second glich was unfathomable.

The car drifting occurred everywhere including around Vancouver where grip was fine

We had a Kia Sportage in Iceland with studded tyres which was fantastic on snowy, icey roads.

Come to Germany and not ski with us. Food, that warm wine stuff and Christmas.

And it’ll be a heatwave as that’s our story overseas!

We are doing necessary work around the house - so much spending. But I’m still trying to justify another season... I’m telling myself if I do instructor training then it’s educational LOL
