I always hate getting taxis fullstop. I particularly hate getting them to the airport. We have had so many dodgy drivers/no shows/can't fit luggage etc etc.

So who do you use for a big international ski trip to transport a family of 4 and many pieces of luggage? And would you recommend them?

You'd have to get a van. No way a station wagon would cover it.

For a family of 3 we do a station wagon but like I say with the one extra person and one extra set of bags and skis I think that would be too small.

We aren't taking skis but yes, we will need either a van or a vehicle with a luggage trailer. We have boots, helmets, ski clothing. I estimate 6 pieces of luggage.

There are so many hopeless companies and drivers out there I am hoping someone can point us to someone reliable.

Life's good I have a driver that I use for work.

he will charge you a premium but I think it's worth it.

Ask him to quote you are if you prefer so you know what you are up for.

My brother always uses a shuttle company, family of 5, 11 bags  including 3 skibags! Shuttlemate I think it's called.

We use a shuttle service, eg either Northside shuttle or Northern beaches shuttle from the northern beaches. There are quite a few of them around. Might take a little longer than a direct service but they have a trailer for luggage and are usually more reliable than a taxi.

If you can fit the luggage into your car, and depending on how far you are from the airport, have a look at some of the pre-pay, long term parking deals. Pronto is one. The cost of parking can be close to the cost of taxi fares.

The pre-pay parking is $450, not worth it this time. We always self-drive if we can.
Maxi Taxi has dodgy reviews and we have had problems with them in the past so I am hoping to avoid them.
    Thanks I will contact him!

Park'n'Fly sometimes has good deals for long term parking in January. Off the airport, but their shuttles run pretty much on demand.

Maxi Taxis are just normal cabs . Most people have had problems with them in the past , but you don't stop using them .

What about Uber XL? You can pre-book now and it's cheaper than taxi

Use a private transfer company. Avoid taxis at all costs.

Have given up on road transport to the airport - too many possible delays with taxis either not showing or late or traffic jams around the airport or elsewhere along the route. Arranged with a couple of neighbours to drive each other when required to the local train station and then train it . Might mean a change at Central but there are lifts to help with the luggage. The trains run pretty much to timetable and no stress delays so far.

I have to confess I've never had a problem getting a station wagon or van (taxi) to or from the airport with 3 of us (4 trips) or 2 of us (I dunno...8 trips?)

    Unfortunately train suits me!

Every time I have ever done it - when I come home I find there is track work!

The final straw was the time I was forced off at central at 9pm on a Sunday night. 20mins til next train to town hall (around the long way!) It would take less time then walking!

Caught a taxi home so paid premium train ticket and then taxi fare!

I now build the taxi into the holiday cost!

Have booked a private transfer, thanks for all the recommendations. We are heading off at 6am which will be a challenge in itself.
