We are thinking of taking Murrays day coach to Thredbo from Sydney. It's around $151 pp which includes entry fee to the National Park. Obviously it's more expensive than driving but we might still take it, considering we don't want to drive long distance especially at night. The coach departs Sydney around 1am and is scheduled to arrive at Thredbo around 8am so that we can just relax and sleep on the way. Has anyone used a different coach that's a bit cheaper than Murrays?

Is that $151 return or one way?

I'd like the price to be a bit cheaper but I think this price is not too bad, considering it's almost 8 hours away and not having to drive at night, etc.

It would cost about that just in fuel for a return car trip.

My fuel bill is just around $110.
If there's more than one of you travelling consider driving and sharing a motel room in Canberra or Cooma to break up the journey. Be cheaper than 2 bus fares.

Nope V6. average bit below 8l per 100km on the 1000Km Sydney / bullocks return. Joy of night time run down - no traffic, just sit back and cruise

Every season I look at alternate ways to get down there including buses. What kills the bus for me apart from the fixed timetable is the time and hassle of getting into central and particularly the taxi fare back home when it terminates at central at midnight or 1.00am on the way back

No it terminates at Central at 10:30pm on the way back. So it's not a big problem unless you live too far from the City. The departure time is 1am. I think I can still catch the midnight train to the City for departure.

Greyhound also run coaches but not as often, or for as long in the season, as they used to in past years.

Other coach options are on the Perisher web site, in the how to get there section.
