That seems very weird on all accounts. I am not sure a person on a backboard would like to be propped up. Maybe that's why they are soaking on dream run
that opens up a lot of stuff ,you could have the BBQ gondola , with a fire and some snags ,, or the front bar gondola with nice ale on tap ,, the nightclub gondola ,, make it up ,, the gangster gondola , all in black with gold chain ...
Fair point. however she got a season pass.... so likely she will be down here at some point. and not sure how imminent her due date is
Going to be a great way to get the tribe up to Merritts, especially for the little ones (Gunbarrel was always a little scary with 4 yr olds, even pre-incident)
Someone pls explain this statement on the Thredbo website: “Please note, there is no dedicated snow play area at the top of the Gondola.” How many different forms of carnage will there be with gondola day trippers wandering up ballroom and squatters when runs open? Is this a temporary covid thing or has Thredbo not planned a snow play area?
Pretty’s sure it’s a temporary thing, pictures of those who got to ride the gondola up to Merrits and then throw a few snow balls about have been all over social media. I’m guessing KT are just getting on the front foot and saying that was a once off. In time they will have to do something there if the plan for Merrits to be an evening restaurant is a genuine plan. I can see something for the kids up there so families head up that way after a days skiing, play in the snow, have dinner and head back.
Did they change that? Thank Christ, it was a somewhat absurd thing to say ‘there is no room in our million hectare park for snow play’.
Sorry you're out of jurisdiction there. You'll need to take that one up with RMS. Their advice is probably also to not get hit by car, but weren't able to comment on snow play
Visitors can undertake snow play activities (excluding tobogganing) if they undertake these activities in a safe and suitable location. Examples of snow play activities include sightseeing, building a snowman, throwing snowballs, going for a short walk or other similar activities NPWS is concerned about safety management of snow play user groups, as unsafe areas along road corridors may become crowded. Visitors should ensure their activities are undertaken in a safe location
Looking further to the future, I reckon the snowplay gondola people could be directed over to the old beginner bowls (between Cruiser and the easy rider T-bar). Mind you how would u get em there? And if not there, where else? Perhaps an area could be made between Gondy and dream run? It’s gonna be a major issue if they don’t make it somewhere
bridge, like they have at Whistler to get to the tubing basically build a walkway around the back of the cruiser then Bridge over the run at the base of the park
Yes. From the top of the Easy Does It Quad, you go up the Burrow Snowrunner and then walk ~20m up to the mid-station (route marked in orange).
Hmm... I'm not sure that many people who are strictly resort only skiers will walk uphill on a ski slope for any distance. Boarders and back country skiers are used to walking or shuffling, so they probably will. But resort skiers?
I would imagine the shuffle to the gondola will be easy as the ski schools will use the gondola to get to merrits.
Thx. Yes I think people will take their skis/board off and walk 20m. They have to take them off to ride the gondola anyway.
I always thought the idea was to still use Gunbarrel up, then catch gondy down to mid when you’re done at cruiser area. If I was instructing kids on Friday flat like I did for a season or two waaaaaaay back in the day, that’d be my play. A 20m walk up a low incline with a whole ski school class carrying gear is not a small thing, believe me
you could be right, I guess in the end you have to queue with the kids for a lift either way so probably makes more sense your way.
Took a ride on the gondi last week abd I'm not sure it will be used to get to Merritts. It might only be a short distance but to get to the entry station requires going roundabout a little with a short steeper incline, althpugh it is hard to get the lie of the labd with out a snowbase but for me doing easy doea it to carpet to walk to gondi for gondie ride would be much morw of a pain with a bunch of kids then just jumping on Gumbarrell. Apologies, dam phone makes it hard to type with out error!
You got your point across well don’t stress. Yep. Gunny up, gondy down. and of course, the secondary advantage of this is that you ski down from top of gunny whereas from top of gondy it’s another lift up
nah - gunbarrell is very intimidating for newbie's. I suspect Gondie then up cruiser. The cat track is a nightmare for a class too.
GB only if a chair falls off. Imagine if a Gondy falls off! That’d make the cat track seem like a piece of cake
Can be, I agree. But my faint recollections are that Gunny and cat track were OK most times, give or take the crossing of ballroom over to Walkabout. Guess we'll see what happens soon enough eh?
Way too many beginners have gone up the Gunny and ended up turning left and onto HN instead of right to Merritt's. Mountain staff and ski patrol have failed endlessly to address this situation.
Which leads to the broader question which I pondered often back in those days when I worked the hill: Are people fantastically stupid all the time or do they just check in their brain when they go on a snow holiday?
Have you not seen Sydney has a toilet paper shortage again... On topic - does anyone know how Dreamrun is looking? From the cams it looks like they are making it at the top? Down with the kids next week hopefully High Noon and Dreamrun can give me something more advanced for the older ones.
Way to go. Heard that they hope to have High Noon open next weekend but Dream Run is a while off yet.
Depends if they’re on skis or a board. It takes more skill to ride on flats than inclines on a board and that cat track for new snowboarders progressing from Friday Flat can be very tricky - so for a teacher with a full class of battlers - it’d be an attractive option to bypass it at least until they get the straight running of the board down.
Given they often have a sign up Advanced Only on the track leading to High Noon you’d think it might engage a few brain cells. I suspect a lot of the people going down High Noon and struggling have been taken there by friends who’ve skied off and left them.
