Absolutely. Not only is it challenging for those beginners, but also for those trying to manoeuvre around them. Also causes a lot of the backup of traffic next to the lift as nervous riders wait for a bit of space

    100%

I experienced this last season with my friend.
She transitioned from skis to a board over the course of a couple of Niseko trips. We never rode anywhere with cat tracks, all easy downhill. I hadn’t realised she had a big gap in her riding and wasn’t able to manage a cat track - holding a line and controlling speed. We went straight up Kosi and I swear I thought she would cause a serious accident (took her board off and WALKED down Evil Way! Then sat right at the exit and strapped back in :eek: Ignoring me yelling for her to move.)

So I took her straight over to Merritt’s and we spent the rest of the next two days lapping Valley View. Practicing controlled turns of various sizes on the way down and the narrow uphill/straight run at the end before joining back into ballroom. She hated that bit. Crawled up it over and over, but in the end she had it down.

Cat tracks are the simplest thing in the world for skiers - and most just don’t understand the challenges for boarders in that circumstance.

Haha, 1 benefit of my second ever trip being to Nozawa, and not being confident on the steeps - something like 10km of mostly cat track to get from the top to bottom :)

I think some people over-estimate their abilities too.

Opening weekend last year, I made some new friends having mid-morning beers at Merritts, one of them was on their 2nd day skiing ever and insisted coming down High Noon even though I told her it was A Terrible Idea.

    I was right.

I second this. That cat track intimidated me a lot my first day at Thredbo. I was like "what have I done, I thought this was meant to be a green run". Made all the more difficult by the fall line and trying to strap in whilst being goofy-footed!

I rode the Gondola yesterday and it was very civilised, much nicer than a sketchy icy High Noon descent early season, and somehow more pride-saving than a gunbarrel download LOL

I also saw quite a few people with prams come up - such a good idea. I imagine taking a small child or baby on the old merritts chair would've been so scary!

They should just copy this sign that they have above the Chutes at Mt Buller, it should scare them off.

It can be a challenge. Especially when the pavers are visible LOL It’s not nicknamed Evil Way for nothing.

I tend to drop off the side as early as possible because it’s unpredictable people rather than terrain that I have a problem with. But even on my worst of struggle town days way back in the early days taking the board off was not an option I would have considered.

Never, ever take your skis/boards off. That is exactly how a girl became a quadraplegic about 30 years ago. She couldn't control her slide and smashed into a huge boulder and broke her neck.

Does each cabin get sanitized at each end?

The ride was comfortable but it was concerning that the cabins only had tiny little windows to let air out. There was about a 10 second gap when the doors open and close. Hopefully it was enough to vent it for sanitation reasons.

If its blowing those lines through the trees down to Supertrail above Kareela's are sweet as, definitely a better option than Evil Way!

But suspect it's only an early season thing.

Yeah mid-station wasn’t running on the weekend, high noon wasn’t open then either though so I just assumed it was lack of snow cover at the time

Not even close last weekend. If this snow tomorrow night comes through for us that may change things, but I don’t know how much they need to open it.
