    Not good.

    Hope Pretty Valley Hut ok.

Baby this is not ganna be a good day.

So sad that they could not hold NW Spur fire and i can imagine
how hard they must have tried.

Good luck to those of Falls Ck and Bogong Village and Mt Beauty.

I may become religious and go to church and pray for divine intervention :5 inches of rain.

Thats an imformative site Ern as long as co-ords are entered correct.

Who is compiling all the data

Wind has turned back to NNW from SSE now and temps rising in the valley.

A couple of choppers around just monitoring I guess.
From my side its now heading up the NW Spur and spotting.

    What can you see Curra.

Whats happening over your side Tecks.

On Landgate Firewatch if you turn off Current Fire Info and turn on MODIS Hotspots you get something much closer to Sentinel - no surprise since it's also using MODIS - and much less spread to the East.

So yeah dossa, I'm left wondering too where the Current Fire Info is coming from.

K, so the wind is doing what was forecast.

Maybe i get bears an ultra light and they can give you a better indication of the fire edge and areas of heightened activity.

Technology a bit of problem for us but fire boss for that NW Spur fire and his staff will have infra red pics from aircraft available and i do hope that fire mappers are not in back room again!!

Suppose Big Hill is having problems seeing through smoke haze..
And hope they stand him down well before fire impacts the ridgeline running from Fainters to his tower.

Well acc. to MODIS Hotspots - and I assume MODIS data comes from one or more satellites - the fire hasn't even gone East of the Razorback.

All quiet here in the Kiewa so far. I can't see much from my place, but when I was out earlier it was ok. Spoke to a local cfa guy who was also saying no danger in the short to medium term.

There's a community mtg this pm. Highly unlikely to tell us anything we don't know but might pop along later if I can.

MODIS: Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer. Comes from 2 sats in our part of the globe it seems. You can slice and dice your own by d/loading a KML file from: http://earthdata.nasa.gov/data/near-real-time-data/data/firms/active-fire-data

and displaying it on Google Earth. I couldn't get the 48 hour animation to run.

All that aside, the spread of the fire over the last two days appears to have been fairly slow. Wind speed in Bright is currently 18 km/h but may pick up later.

Wondering if that may have beem some sort of anomaly. Nothing on cfa site about it still. Can't believe that it would not warrant at least Advice if there really is a fire that close

Have emailed them asking for the source. Their reply:

The initial map is a combination of MODIS & NOAA. There are accuracy and timing variations in the data sets. The map is just a visualisation tool and folk should take the advice of local authorities on their fire plan.

Is Dungey Track negotiable to management vehicles as its been closed for last 12months or so.

Hope its been cleared for summer and is just closed to public as it would be a rather important part of fire preparation infrastructure.Otherwise tankers got to come in from Loch car park or up from Bogong Village via Spring Saddle or from BHP RD.

Must be nice down in West Kiewa River bears say good places to swim down there but fear its off limits with that yellow tape and little plastic signs....

Lets hope fire stays confined to Ovens Valley side of Razorback.
looks like dozer operators in for lot of overtime etc.....

Acc. to the satellites there've been no new firespots in the last 12 hours near Harrietville - but they won't sense them under heavy smoke or forest canopies.

Correction: that's acc to LandGate Firewatch. Sentinel is showing that there has been. (And they use the same MODIS data!).

New spots SE of Harrietville acc to the sats over the last 12 hours.

Today's Age reports a dozer cutting a fibre-optic comms line to the area last night.

Come in dossa5; are you there?

    Been around BHP etc.

Last evening from Mt Mkay sth along Razorback from Feathertop was where most smoke comming from also section to right of Feathertop possibly Stoneytops Walking track between old helipad and Nth Peak.

Today went for a spin and lots dozer work from Simmonds Rd Along Pyramid Hill Track, all side small tracks and little ridge lines have been touched up.Met dozer and offsider 4km short of Camp Stoneytops(seasons barrier):they said so far campsite untouched so fire has not crossed Stoneytops 4x4 track as far up as barrier.Country to my right (ovens valley side) was not affected for most:smoke comming from much lower in valley floor.Reporting in from Rocky Valley Bikes & Snow Sports which looks straight up at Pyramid Hill. From Mt Mackay all heavy action seemed to be at other end of Razor back(Hotham End)
Had a look at Harrietville on Friday fire being pushed by wind away from very smokey Harrietville.Rained in Pretty Valley last night a little and slightly heavy showers this morning .But lower forest is very dry even after few pts of rain.
Good to see DSE is flat out putting trails that they may get to use shortly.Amazing to see how much work one dozer operator has done by himself!!!Looks like some old tracks down ridge lines have been reopened as fire pro work.Back to Mitta Mitta now.By the way Mt Ck rd to Mitta Rd has been graded and is like freeway at moment.

Looking down valley can see hazy Feathers and clear on NW side.
SE behind razorback does have some smoke, exact location cant tell from here.

There was some back burning in Hooterville very close to valley floor, I sent you a pick yesterday to show how close it was Ziggy.

But the wind is all over the shop at the moment.

    Windy all day today.

Cable dug up again and they were working on it last night.

I think we have escaped this menace relatively unscathed compared to QLD.
The forest floor has had a nice clean out- at the moment.

U Steve- Have you had permission yet to visit your beloved huts yet.

Its takes 2 hrs from Narby to Wang, so 90mins from Alex to Wang, less the difference of Boho to Wang.

The terrain looks pretty hilly on Google earth. And it changes from grass to bush about 3 or 4 km in from the Hume. It started on Harrys Creek Rd which is the road that leaves the freeway & then travels south almost to Strathbogie. So it depends whereabouts on Harrys Creek Rd.

It's travelling in a NE direction - ie: towards Benalla. The winds for the next few days will be mainly from the south.

Don't have a personal CFA radio. And I don't know the frequency of up there. I'll try and fire up my scanner and see if I can get it to work.

Got my scanner going, but picked up nothing so far except cops I think in Melbourne. Hard up here in the hills to get much.
Possible frequencies for anyone else with a scanner are:

    161.0500
    161.1875
    161.0750
    164.2500
    163.2125

    Hey Ziggy

Do you have an update from the sats for this morning.

Boho's looking shocking; a lot of hotspots. I know Harrys Creek Rd; hilly area, stringybark forest.

Harrietville, yeah dossa, 'fraid there's a bunch of new spots sprung up in the last 12 hours SE of town.

It seems to be getting progressively worse as the morning transpires

How do you know Harry's Creek Road, you're a living atlas.

Yeah, there are an estimated 19 hotspots of 12 hours or under acc. to Landgate Firewatch

    ...

The motorbike club does rides every Sunday and folk are expected to take turns to lead, and to try and find new roads. Harrys Ck road was one of my finds, woven into a route including Euroa, Strathbogie and Merton.
