I know this is not ski related but every June long weekend I go to the Grampians for hiking, camping and a spot of back country road driving in the magnificent bush land in the Grampians N.P. in Western Victoria. The Mt. Difficult route involves driving from Hall's Gap to Boroka lookout. From there one continues along a 4 x 4 track( The Mt. Difficult road) to a locked gate and track that leads to a hiker only campsite where there is space for two tents and a seasonal stream , that was flowing .It is situated NW of Lake Wartook. The walking track up the hill is well marked with arrows. However the usually scenic summit of Mt. Difficult was lost in cloud and we could not see a thing. There was no wind and it was very peaceful up there. On the way back we stopped the RAV4 at the Lake Wartook lookout which was very scenic, dare I say spectacular. Day two was a long drive from Hall's Gap on rough roads and tracks to the Fortress trailhead on Harrop's track in the Victoria range. We had to ford a floodway .I got out and walked it in my sandals with my trousers rolled up. It was COLD and almost knee deep. I found a safe route , put the beast into Low gear and drove through it , so that the show and the plan went ahead. The walk was well worth it and I 'll return to this remote area of the SW Grampians again. However staying in Dunkeld or bush car camping closer to the Victoria range would be better next time around. The new All terrain tyres did a great job on those shite roads!. Photos are coming soon!
