I tried exercise and found it over-rated. These days I stick strictly to alcohol and the odd cigarette.

    No Worries Fatts,

It's certainly been a good week for the region, with plenty more in the next couple of days. Pink is a good colour!

Tinkus, two sets - pffffft. I'm sensing a competitiomn between you and Taxman as to who has the fanciest kit. I'm looking forward to this.

Seriously though - what are the sets you are taking ? A pair of fats and a corduroy slayer ?

Err, that was assuming of me. An Onsen is OK if we are all male because of segregation stuff. I think it is all males on the 14th ?

my place is smack in the middle right near the olympic road.

Skala has a good shuttle van service inthe daytime though and the place is nice.

Terry is nothing special but not bad a bit far

penke panke is nice but heck is way up in the corner and far from about everything except the lifts

Remember that hakuba is a town and you have many resorts to choose from so you have to decide if you want to be near everything or near one thing

not totally sure, will find out on saturday!

i think its just over an hour from nozawa to nagano city, then a bus from there to hakuba is fastest, & its about an hour apparently.

insane powder day on sunday in nozawa - actually too much! i got stuck in a valley up to my chest, took over an hour to get out, was pretty horrible actually. couldnt suss out any serious off-piste that day due to vis & the depth, but had a ball on the edges of runs.

got the place a bit more sussed on monday (mostly blue skies & sun!), there are some serious steep tree runs here! access can be trick though - you generally have to ride a large part of a boring run to get to the good stuff. also crappy access between lifts - a lot of skating & walking on flat sections - its very much a skiiers hill. the previous 2 days huge dumpage had packed down & the moisture was frozen out, so there was a great 20cm layer of dry powder on a soft base.

the asahiya ryokan is so lovely - the rooms are perfect japanese stlyle, the food is too die for & the top floor onsen is deluxe. the whole town is just cute as can be - it looks like the background for a studio ghibli animation.

tuesday - warm today, snow started getting gluggy low down & turned to glue throughout the day. big sluffy action in the trees. scoped some more tree runs, which were wicked, & saw a kamoshika! that made my day [IMG] hit the pipe & terrain park, bothe great fun, fairly intermediate level. heard a huge avalanche! sounded like it was coming from another mountain. spooky though - sounded huge!

looks like snow tomorrow, certainly need it & some cold to sort out the glue.

having a ball, its just a very magical place to be, nozawa has so much history & atmosphere it makes niseko look like paramatta [IMG]

    Hello from Hakuba.

Met up with Powdapig last night and saw some of his amazing photos!! Wow!!! He also went to a temple yesterday afternoon, prolly while it was raining here, and prayed for snow, and boy did it pay off in spades!!!!

I reckon we have had 30 -40 cm overnight!!! The transformation is amazing but I can't post any pics due to computer probs here but it will be amazing today!!! :woohoo:

Must go now and get ready to leave :woohoo:

    Weather conditions: Overcast
New snowfall: 30 cm (at top of GORYU gondola) 20 cm (in the Valley)
Snow depth: 340 cm (at top of GORYU gondola) 170 cm (in the Valley)

A general cooling trend, with light precipitation and overcast skies. After 20 or more wonderful centimeters overnight, expect even more flurries throughout the day. Get ready for more snow over the next few days, and as they say around these parts, get out and ski the pow!

Avalanche danger MODERATE at or above tree line.

Avalanche danger MODERATE below tree line

Continued caution on wind slab and wind deposited slopes under ridges and cornices. South East aspects seem to be the least stable. Watch for loose slides in the new snow. This may be enough to set off windslab underneath.

The dinner/drinks date on Feb 19 was that a invite for all us in hakuba at the time ?

We'll be in Nozawa on Monday next week for 4 days. Can't wait, it sounds a great place.

Niseko was pretty nice today. A little new, some heavy fluffy snowfalls this morning helped freshen up places, and this afternoon it cleared, stayed cold and was a lot of fun.

Hope the forecast is right, as we should get some good falls in next 3 days.
