Me me me! Got a group of 7 of us booked in for Hakuba snowy goodness from 14th of February through to the 22nd. Fifth trip, and just as stoked as trip number 1!
Some say spam others say mindless babble. I like it because I do it. Here is a link to 360 posts of whatever you want to call it. There are some nice photos anyway. And there will be lots more approaching the season. Let the mods decide http://hakuba.wordpress.com/
I will +1 for TJ's blog* - some great info on there, such as the post about storage in Nagano Station. *At the risk of receiving a 3 paragraph scolding from obvious quarters...
Where abouts are you staying in Wadano HoopDogg? Really want to check your link TJ, but sadly its blocked at work. Where I may be right now. Browsing ski forums. >_> Move along, nothing to see here....
Stayed there 2 years ago. Great lodge, awesome spot and the manager (cant remember his name) made sure everyone was well looked after. I think they've added a public bar now too.
Cheers! I just use an entry level panasonic full hd video cam from a few years ago which shuts off when it gets too cold ( :headband: ) and a Canon 7D occasionally (I spend most of my time taking photos).
Just booked my flight. Planning on being in Hakuba Jan 28 to Feb 5 or 6. Still need to decide on accommodation. Which general location do you guys recommend to stay?
Car or no car? No car - stay on the shuttle route Close to slopes? Pick the area and find a place nearby Close to entertainment? Go for somewhere near Echoland Want quiet? Have a look around Wadano Check the google map in the links at top. That might help you out.
Thanks M_G. I definately won't have a car so I'm tossing up between places in Echoland and Wadano at the moment.
- If you go with a place that does drop off, pick up, go Echoland. - If you don't, then the Sakka end of Wadano. Close to Happo lifts, FIRST stop on the shuttle so you can sit down.
Echoland always seems like its miles from the slopes. Wadano is walking distance to Happo-one. Sakka end of Wadano might be good for the slopes, but for me at least, its a bit to far from dinner.
Got my threads mixed up and thats why its in the Japan one too. This was in response to Echoland being so far away. Not sure why you have that impression. Another J trip Booked. Put me down for Hakuba late Jan on my roadie. Echoland is 4 minutes to the Nakiyama Happo lifts which by the way opens 1/2 an hour before Sakka and is also a hell of a lot closer to the 47 park. So many times I have dropped skyline before the Sakka lift has even opened so a quick cut over to the gondie is in order. Looking forward to another big JPOw season
I just put this together for another website but thought it might be good here as well. Please add places if you would like. Pizzakaya is good but I cant stand being in that place when someone is smoking, it just doesnt vent and is small. Gravity Worx is good. Zen is about the best example of Nagano fresh soba and tempura Nonjae if you want fast izakaya food at a good price Sounds like Cafe in Echoland for good coffee and sandwiches. My fav place for lunch awesome fresh made sandwiches. AK burger on the way to Happo La Neige for an expensive date night 5 course plus meal Korean BBQ above master blaster in Echoland Korean BBQ accross from H plus between the station and Happo Aslo the chinese place is right there. TexMex uncle stevens in Happo. The unagi place in Happo GU in lower goryu below the train tracks for cheap steaks. Shinshu dining in echoland for veagens and well local dishes. Taco Taco for slower mex and less grease than tex mex. The sumo joint in echoland 1f of the old engish looking house. Sanno for nice wagu steaks beside echoland no YU Izakaya Hei for the best Izakaya in town the pari pari potato salad is awesome if not messy. MAster braster for jerk chicken. Kikoya the best place for sushi in town Also the log house at Garden no yu has good fresh fish for sashimi and sushi plus great katsudon Pretty much everything I have listed off are all local places open year round. Also all are owned by Japanese living in town full time. So weather or not you want J flare there are at least J owned.
wow, amazing footage for a point n shoot vid! Just goes to show it's more about the riding and terrain than the camera. What editing software mate? Oh and what sort of snorkel do you recommend?
Only been Zen once, but loved it. That pari pari is evil, but so friggin good!! We ended up with two serves last time... between three. >_> Love Kikoya, but the miso I still can't cope with. I just don't enjoy the salmon or whatever in it. No mention of Windy's? Pretty good wagyu up there. Gah, and there was somewhere we went this year.... little house all alone.... Chef cooks a new menu daily... your choice of Japanese or French menu.... man, this is gonna kill me!
Please ad to the list but if they are only open for winter please note that. I think this is good info the location can be sorted out once people get here.
The tonkastu place on the road between station and Happo. On the left as you head up hill. Pretty much the only place I like these days for the type of inexpensive easy eating + easy access that we do once every few weeks. Also the ramen place on the second floor with the drum kit inside. On the far right as you are standing looking at the station. I've never bothered to find out what their names are.
Emu is my favourite. the Miso Chashumen is the best god dam thing going! Kichonchon is amazing too. the Kimchi pork with egg is ace. Oh and i think the yakiniku across from H+ is called miyama, and the one above master braster is marukame i think. One across from H+ is awesome, expensive but awesome.
