Lots of powder falling at Happo, but gale force wind gusts in the afternoon causing havoc.

JAN Avalanche bulletin this morning read Danger Rating - Alpine: High, Treeline: High, Below Treeline: Considerable.
So, I bailed on BC and caught the bus to Iwatake.
I got beautiful dry blower up to my knees.
I followed a group of Scandans to a forest out of punters view to poach their lines.
Stayed there until it was trenched out. It was so cold that the face shots instantly cleared the goggles.
    Heaven on two sticks.
Iwatake has many aspects, so despite the wind it was great this arvo.

In Hakuba with the wifey from 7-14th of Feb staying out at Wadano. Keen to meet up with some other boarders while i'm there to do some riding with. Good ability level, not a kook/bogan. :)

Back home. Had an amazing time but now I'm super bummed. Three weeks is not long enough.

In summary, Cortina is more of a shitshow than ever, restaurants are super busy, there is a mutant influenza kicking about and best of all I remained intact.

Could you expand on Cortina being a shitshow? Keen to check it out while i'm there but i've been told it's a bit overhyped.

Very sad news. We fly out tomorrow but will not be doing BC. Interesting how close to in-bounds some of those people were.

Probably something to do with every pro snowboarder on the planet being in japan so far this month and everyone constantly saying "Nah Niseko is pants go to hakuba", Probably gonna go to niseko next year, bet it will be bogan free.

Think its bad now.. Travis rice was in hakuba earlier this month, probably filming for his new project. And Cue explosion of popularity in 3, 2, 1.....

Thinking about bringing out a new BC backpack under the name 'YOLO'. Instead of shovel, beacon, probe and rope it comes with a can of redbull and a gopro.

You think those guys actually carry that shit with them?? They are called guides man. and they have them in spades. Pro riders at his level dont make decisions, his guides do it for them. He didnt get to where he is today by worrying about what if. You dont worry about what if when you are hucking rodeos in the alaskan BC...

Yeh, those guys don't seem to get caught out that often, whether from their own tuition
or advice from guides. Lots of $ invested to help them come home safe though.

Thats why there is all the footage in art of flight of them arguing with guides about where to go going "you're in charge of my safety" and "lets go get tons of fuel and go here... what planet the **** are you from etc"

You can even hear something along the lines of "what the **** are you doing" over the radio when he jumps from aforementioned chopper..

The people who saw them weren't aussies on their week three annual trip.

As others have said though, they're paid to ride dangerous terrain and to get the "shot". Just as long as they're not putting other people at risk.

As long as he's not triggering Iimori with a dozen people at the run out below him i'm not too concerned IE as long as he's only killing himself.

We got in at 2am. Everything is going fine so far except for all this damn snow. It just won't stop. Can't wait for the sun to come out and the temp to get up to 30c so we can go swimming. :D

Zero heel riser day. For once, the complaining was justified. That was terrible.

Surprised you're going back, I recalled you didn't have such an enjoyable experience last time, or was that someone else? Are you hiring a car? Interested to hear about your trip considering next time I go it will be with the ankle biters

Maybe take a stroll/bus to Wadano and try Vanessa and Mimasakatei? (log cabin) - although some of the menu items were missing as one of the local chefs broke his leg in a race last week :-(
Both of these have a great Japanese menu - we had 4 adults eat plenty and one Sake each for around Y7000 - very happy as we like quality food. Some of the other places in Wadano seem to have dumbed down the menus for the many Australians - not happy...

We enjoyed it last time. I was just trying to put the place in a context with other ski destinations I'd been to.

We'll be playing the car thing by ear - we'll see.
