    There are a squadron of those tracked Rhinos buzzing around the resort
    The untracked 8 wheeler is my Argo, which currently sports tracks on one side,I tore the tracks off on t'other side and haven't had the chance to repair it yet (It still runs quite well)
    There is also an old vehicle stashed in the workshop waiting for renovation or maybe scrapping

    G'day All,

    Thanks for the replies, taking them one at a time:

    Doomechanic - I am sorry, I missed your original post with the listing of vehicles past and present at Ben Lomond. Do you know what Type the Bombardier "Dumbo" actually is? Perhaps it has some badging?

    Bogong - thanks for the picture of what appear to be three Arctic Cat ATVs at Mt. Baw Baw, it's the first I have of AC ATV's in use and would like to add it to the site. I would love to add the picture of the Tasmanian Bombardier as I don't have any Tasmanian content.

    I always get permission before using pictures so - Do you know who "owns" the pictures from the Baw Baw and Ben Lomond's Facebook?

    Charlie - Thanks for the further confirmation on Mt.Baw Baw's fleet. Any chance you could source or get a picture of the old Oversnow stashed away for renovation or scrapping? Would be great to be able to identify it at least. I used to ski at Baw Baw quite a bit in the early 1980s but can't recall seeing any oversnow there, so am quite interested.

    Thanks again for your help all, Cheers, Andrew

    A.C. The Baw Baw pic was posted on their Facebook page on 7 September. If you put it on your page with a credit they won't mind as you're giving the resort a little unpaid publicity. But if you insist on doing things by the book, send an email to them.

    Likewise, I'm confident that Ben Lomond Snow Sports would like the free publicity, (they are a business at the resort, not the lift company), for their Facebook picture posted on the 1st of September. Alternately I think Flea (who posts on the Ben Lomond pages on this forum) has something to do with BLSS, so you could post something on the "Ben Lomond Bliss" thread and you will probably get a response.

    Bogong. Don't forget the oversnow at Mt Wills. North of Bogong Peak. You may have heard of it. Tallangatta Ski Club.

    "...original snow cat came from Falls. (Owned by TAA (airline)). We used run the cat to the top with rope behind and ski down the road (before greenies closed the road)...."

    I love that pic of the oversnow at Mt Wills, did it take skiers to the top of the mountain or just ferry people and gear between the Omeo Highway and the Tallangatta Ski Club Lodge?

    VSG, I'm a ski history person who also knows a bit about ski lifts, but I know very little about oversnow vehicles. I just come across reports of ancient vehicles when I'm delving through historical materials (like the 1930's Cletrac oversnow services at Buffalo and Feathertop).

    I put stuff I find here, then Andrew Cudgewa, the expert on the subject can choose to put it on his page or not. [IMG] http://australianalpinoversnow.blogspot.com.au/

    G'day All,

    Thanks for the referral Bogong, I have sent both Baw Baw and Ben Lomond a request top publish via Facebook.

    Thanks for the great shot of the Sno Trac VSG and reference. I will post and credit you accordingly on the site. And Yep, agree, the shot on the Main Range by the Kalymaro Ski Club is just stunning in scope and quality.

    Ben Lomond Brad, if it's possible, would be great to post some scans of those pictures of moving the Bombardier up to the resort?

    Thanks again all, much appreciated.

    Cheers, Andrew

    G'day All,

    I recently found some old postcards I purchased years ago and added them to the site, however I thought this one might interest readers, date unknown but outside the "Jolly Swagman" lodge at Perisher Valley. This is a ski-doo as I remember them from my early skiing days!

    G'day All,

    For those interested in the site, I have taken some time during the Christmas/New Year break to update it, additions include:

    - Recent Pisten Bullies including some beautiful shots at Falls Creek and Mt Hotham

    - Recent Prinoths including Falls Creek's fire pumper and a couple of brilliant professional shots of one of the Bisons at Falls Creek

    - An unusual Bombardier conversion to the Ski-tube's maintenance truck

    - Two Rolba Turbo-Tracs and a rare shot of the Australian Hydrotrac in the "Other Known & Unknown" section

    - A new page to show some of the smaller snow vehicles

    - A shot of the Cletrac tractor in use at Mt Feathertop and some background courtesy of David Sisson

    - More pictures of M29 Weasels on the main range

    - A couple more pictures of Thiokol/LMCs

    - Adding pictures from this forum of the Rolba snow clearer in action and Ratrac at Falls Creek

    I have also just received permission from the Australian Antarctic Division to use their pictures on the site. While not "Alpine" it seems remiss not to at least include a page given their significant use over many years. This will take some time to assemble as there is much to get through even for a summary-level view which is what I intend to do, with references back to the Division.

    Cheers, Andrew

    Picture: Flexible Clipper Club of Australia

    A long time between posts, however over the last few months I have been updating the Australian Oversnow site, with quite a few new pictures and some information. My thanks to those members of this forum who have contributed and also beyond.

    Following pages have been updated:

    * Hagglunds
    * Tucker Sno Cat
    * Nodwell (new page)
    * Bombardier
    * Other Oversnows known & unknown
    * Prinoth
    * Argo
    * Other snow equipment
    * Thiokol/LMC
    * Pisten Bully/Kassbohrer
    * Snow Trac
    * M29 Weasel
    * NSW Tractors
    * Citroen Kegresse

    .....might have been easier to write which hadn't been updated. And I still haven't got to Australia's Antarctic capability, plus I have also received some rare NZ oversnows - am considering whether to extend the coverage across the Tasman.

    The site is at:
    Australian Oversnow Transport

    Hope it's of interest.

    Cheers, Andrew

    G'day Parkmonkey,

    Thanks for posting, David Sissons was kind enough to send these pictures from "The Australian Snow Pictorial" a while ago so I have them on site already however that of the 423 Tucker is slightly better rendition so will exchange with this.

    The horse/sled picture is also interesting, there was quite a bit of this activity (and quite a few pictures) prior to the first mechanised transport arriving in the 1920s/30s and even for a few decades beyond, and I have been considering whether to add it to the site for some time.

    Cheers, Andrew

    Interesting material Andrew. Thanks.

    Falls Ck now has a couple of tracked 4WDs for the trips to Mt McKay - you could prob. get a pic from resort management.

    Somewhere I think I still have a pic of a resort Husky transport doing an evacuation from the Rover Chalet in 2011 if you're interested. PM me. The road was largely bare so skidoos couldn't get in but there were enough drifts so that a groomer was required to pave the way.

    I'm rather pleased that Andrew is still maintaining his oversnow vehicle page and adding to it, :woohoo: , if only because it compliments my list of all of the 460 Australian ski lifts.

    While the Hotham "zoo carts" were not strictly oversnow, they did provide vital transport around the resort for many decades as skiers who have been around for a while will remember. Perhaps they could be mentioned in the 'Other snow related equipment' section?

    Mutual admiration society then Bogong as I love that you have taken the time and trouble to record the lifts and runs etc. and to a far more detailed level than my efforts. Please do keep on! Thanks for the additions, will certainly add them, I'm a Gen-X so they resonate, same era as the short yellow buses in the mud to get to Mt Baw Baw etc.... more basic times, but good times. Cheers, A

    Well you can if you like, although I suspect anyone with an interest in Australian ski lifts would have found that web page long ago, so I'm not fussed either way. Your site is just as important, so in the unlikely event you ever get tired of it, I'd be happy to host it on my site.

    I'm actually far more proud of my long articles like Donna Buang: the forgotten ski resort and some other original research that I'm working on. But the list of ski lifts was always going to be the most popular and have the widest appeal.

    By the way, those photos aren't mine, I just Googled "Hotham zoo carts" and they were the pics that came up. I have no idea of the years they ran, but they were essential in connecting the two halves of the Hotham village for decades. If you think they qualify as semi-oversnow, other people here might have more information on them.
