The Horse Hill lift is operationally the most expensive lift to run on the mountain. I'd guess it is depentant on snow in addition to more guests like school holidays.

I thought BB1 and 2 was the most expensive lift to run on the mountain due to it being so old.

But when I was at Buller last Sunday, Burnt Hut and the red lift (you know the one, I am not saying the name) looked like that it was close to opening. Unfortunately the current rain falls might come in to play and make things different. Hopefully the predicted snowfalls comes soon to reverse the damage done by the rain.

Emerites was open the other day according to reports. But not open now.

BB1 & 2 oldest but Horse Hill more costly due to different operational circumstances.

I don't get it though. Both are detachable lifts, so obviously they are expensive to run with all the gears and moving equipments wearing out, but why would Horse Hill be more expensive since BB1 + 2 are older than Horse Hill and are no different to Horse Hill in terms of how it operates. I didn't think that having 8 cabins on that lift was going to make it any different though.

Horse Hill still have about 8 Gondolas on it while the rest are normal detachable chairs, this is called a Combined Lift where they mix gondolas with chairs. Gondolas are rarely used though. [IMG]

I love the "European-ness" of them... I got head-hunted last time I said anything about Europe though!

Snow on Burnt Hut and Shakey Knees is pretty good.

It was a lot better than I was expecting yesterday morning.

Horse hill was open yesterday and thank goodness it was Th car park was full to the top level and the bus home in the afternoon out the front of Karoora would have been a nightmare. Burn hut was nice but soft in the wet condotions and Emerites was aslo soft.

caught Horse Hill up and back off the mountain which was so much better than getting on one of those slow crowded shuttles up to the village although with such poor visability up there yesterday it did take us a while to find the lift at the end of the day to head back down [IMG] ....also while heading down back to the carpark there was this English guy (probably tourist) all by himself on a snowboard just rolling down the hill to the bottom of the gully. shouted out if he was ok but he was too buggered to respond...told the lifties at the top and they notified the ski patrol....how do people get into those situations? I really dislike those buses as well, love Horse Hill, they just need to open Grimus so that I can avoid Bourke Street in the morning!

Very easy to get caught out if your new to the mountain, or in an area that's too hard for you. Add Fog to that and it's a nightmare!

hate to think what might have happened to him had we not seen him. it was only about 15 from being dark and when we hopped on the chair at Horse Hill no one else was around coming down...could have been a cold wet night for the lad.

It's called Chalet Creek all the way down.
