I have an early overnight BC white season trip lined up for Sunday June 4th.I might head up to Derrick's hut or take the Bungalow spur to Fed. hut.I shall report back .
Great look forward to it
Pre season reccy. 2 days already and season hasnt started yet. Winning.
The trip up the Bungalow spur on Sunday June 4th went well. PV have cleared the track of logs and some overgrown saplings. I made it to the Mt. FT summit yesterday,June 5th before dawn to see the sunrise over Mt. Bogong. The sky was clear . I was wearing flexible microspikes/ crampons. There is a bit of ankle deep snow up there but it is very icy .I got back down off the mountain at about 2 pm yesterday. I left a small amount of dry wood inside the hut and some candles and firelighters. The mob before me, from Saturday night did not do that. That is poor form IMO.The Bungalow spur is one that requires 'match fitness' as Ubi Steve might say .
. I made it up by 1315 having left on Sunday morning from the bottom at 0930. I was carrying a full winter gear list hooked onto my pack but the snow shoes ,ice axe, snow pegs, snow shovel etc. didn't get used.. We need more snow !!
Photos are coming soon.
There is not enough snow on the Razorback to warrant a ski/ snow board/ snow shoe/ snow camping trip out there. We need more snow!.The Eastern Face of Mt FT does not have enough snow cover to ski on it. There are too many exposed hazards at present.
Hey @hongomania, You skied past us as we walked up with @gareth_oau and @Nikki_o. Great conditions for it.
Spatto & I chucked the skis on and walked up on Monday... no nice skins and AT gear for us It was still worth the slog up carrying skis
I have to admit I enjoyed the walk up, but I was a little jealous that I didnt ski down
Was that you guys @tcross was talking to on the way down? I was busy enjoying my turns too much!
Nice shots! Was a perfect day up there for a quick lap or two.
Thanks to @Boodwah for the ride to and ski at hotham today (and the hacksaw!) First lifted runs of the season it was great. Managed to get away without and core shots to my new skis! Body has pulled up ok.
Warmest winter day at mt hotham since 1993. 11.6
I cannot see how even the 'slurpy machines' can compete with 11 or 12 degrees C. as a day time temperature.Even fake snow melts .
There was a decent cover on Saturday with only a couple of dirt patches exposed on the summit but by Monday, there had been a fair bit of melt.
Fingers crossed for the next system to arrive.
And that's why all the cams are offline and roundshot not showing current images...
With the cams censored, the website shows a new promo video with better looking images...
Not sure if this is the right thread (mods, move it if it isn't), but I like to ask Hotham to lift their game with daily reports.I note down the daily snow depths and some time between seasons, use them to produce little snow depth graphs for the Vic resorts. I usually go by the man made depth since that represents what is there to be skied (and boarded) on. While Hotham gives up to date natural depths, they seem to only check the man made infrequently. Today's report for instance shows the man made depth from more than a week ago! I usually have to try and guess what it might be. If the natural has melted back a few cm then I guess that (rightly or wrongly) that the man made has also suffered. Is it too much to ask that you at least update your man made depth every couple of days?
Hot-hams gone supreme Okcer
That is Over the Top O C K E R. I don't know many people who speak like that at all. People who can afford to stay there at Hot - Ham in white season and ski down hill using the lifts there may not know many people who speak like that either.
Cobberrrrrrrrrrr, where's ya damper mate
All resorts in Aus do this. They are quick to publicize and trumpet any increase in snow depth, usually on social media and in their reports. But if the snow pack takes a hit through melt or rain they usually are verrrry slow to update their reports
Gid die miiiiiiiiiiiiite , woddya know??. What is more increasingly few white rural bogans even speak like that, you know what I mean , the rine in spine falls minely on the pline!!
I speak like dat, and I own snowshoes.
I don't expect the UK Actor , the Late David Niven
to do the voice over for that ad.( he is not returning any calls these days ;-P ) but that is Over the top, like a parody , like Crocodile Dundee on performance decreasing drugs.
Moreover Australia today is made of so many different people , many of whom were not born here( myself included ) , who speak so many varieties of English that such an Over the top Ocker accent is not representative of a broad cross section of the population at all.
A trip up the staircase and most of us are talking in an incomprehensible fashion.....and some are barely able to engage in discourse.
Sometimes Team Bears not sure if some folk we pass are talking in a foreign language but facial expressions seem to be the most accurate method of describing how one is going.
A few of us are going up on the 17th of July, just wondering if anyone can provide insight into our chances of having heavenly valley and village running?
They will run the village loop before the heavenly chair opens.
From memory you'd need around a 30 to 40cm base for this to open.
By mid July you should be able to get at least Road runner chair working, and possibly village and others.
If the storm comes through early July delivers and it compacts down it's a definite possibility but, still a long way off so could go either way.
does anyone have a framed mt hotham trail map (one of the old school ones preferably)
would love to purchase one to hang up at my place
what about some super old ski gear for decorations that i would also like to purchase.
Fitzroy op shop selling skis circa 1980s-90s for $30
Me too, would love a trail map blown up to put on the wall.
Village, road runner and playground to open
Hooray! Just checked accom 2nd week school hols. Looking pretty chockas

Dont want core shots on new touring skis really. June im still happy to ride the manmade. Still early days.

HV open. They've emptied the reservoir making snow. Not a bad day...
Yeah just got the message about heavenly too. Pretty impressive with f'all natural. Looks great on the cams
A bluebird day and 130000 cubic metres of manmade which was skiing very nicely. There were a few lines of fresh to be found in the canyon if you didn't mind a few sharks.
Sundowner open today.
Wet and heavy snow in contrast to yesterday. Here's what the natural snow coverage looks like:
Similar conditions today. I'm lodge bound as a result, so offer this bit of nostalgia (it still is "pics/conditions", just from 27 years ago). If only...
I like, Mr H. I think I picked myself in the background. Its as good as it gets when the cover is like that.
We are due for another season like that.
