I did in the other thread but okay..

If 2000 and 2004 are the benchmark of the modern era, then '96, 2012 and now 2018 are the next best. Would take 1996 style finish to the season from here....

What avi barriers? Or you mean jumping the fence into Avi Gully?

Much more cover than 2012; I recall the bottom third of playground never really filled in. Also check out the drift cliffs. Was looking yesterday from the bird during apres beer; there's almost no rock left

Apparently they blocked off areas of HV or maybe extreme zone early on

Ahh, righto. Well if that’s the case then probably fair enough. Whether or not it was an overreaction to block it off is another question...

Agreed. Average base is ~2m but you’d swear it was 3 given how “full” everything is.

For anyone who was there on Sunday 19Aug18: Which runs/areas were closed off with avalanche barriers? I would be guessing under The Cornice, and maybe Mary's Slide? Fascinating to see this. My view is that slide/avalanche risk must be taken VERY seriously, especially if you are in the Extreme area or beyond - you are on your own, you must be prepared. So I'd like to know which particular slopes had the danger on Sunday, if possible. Thanks.

Geez after spending a week at Hotham every August for the past three years, I picked a shitty season to book a family ski trip to Japan instead.

I'll take the kids up in the September school holidays. Hopefully there will be lots of sun and not too much rain.

If you hike up the Bon Accord Spur you can ski at Hot ham sandwich for free!.The Bon Accord spur is a real slog and you should take snow camping gear.

Just the finer detail - legislation. Alpine Resorts Management Regulations

29 Offence for persons to enter alpine resorts by means
other than in buses and motor vehicles without
    paying fee

    (1) The Board of an alpine resort may determine a fee
that is payable for a person who enters the alpine
resort other than as a passenger in a bus or in a
motor vehicle to access or use public areas in the
    alpine resort.
    (2) The fee determined by the Board under
subregulation (1) must not exceed 1·31 fee units
for a person for each day that the person remains
    in that alpine resort.
    (3) A person must not enter an alpine resort, other
than as a passenger in a bus or in a motor vehicle,
unless that person has paid the access or use fee
determined by the Board in accordance with
    subregulation (1).
Penalty: 5 penalty units. (or $806 on current penalty unit value)

Not sure how they would find out though.

Absolutely E P I C (needs new adjective) weekend at Hothaido...

Planned the weekend but was able to stay on for yesterday. Sat: a bit 'dust on dynamite' but not so on the right aspects. Improved through the day. Was (almost bottomless) deeep around the upper Swindlers Ck area...

Sunday the pick. Change of wind changed the stashed areas and made for super turns where they normally aren't, with awesome powder turns still being had at 4pm down Wendix (thanks groomer staff for cutting track from Loch carpark to bridge)... Skied the usual pow day haunts - many bootpacking out there but few finding the best lines...

Will try to post pics but was too busy making the most of it to take too many...

Just about as good as it gets...

Looking at a map this was clearly a 4WD accident in the vicinity of the Wonnangatta Valley.... not near Hotham, not relevant to Hotham, not relevant to ski resort snow driving. Very poorly researched and worded press release from VicPol media unit

I am driving up to snow camp for three nights at JB Plain tomorrow via Omeo. If Hongo mania is about then be sure to keep an eye out for the TEE MOBILE/ RAV 4.

The Barry Mountains between Mt. Hotham and Mt. Speculation are not a household word. That is where Mt. Selwyn is located. So reporters would give a very broad position as " Near Mt. Hotham etc. ".

Not familiar with the road but suspect it could be in the seasonally closed area. It is a dry weather only road and not somewhere you would or should be travelling this time of year. Suspect deer hunters. As the crow flies it is not far from Hotham. Not picked up by any of the majors in the news.

Probably had the single best turn of my life today in lindays. It just kept getting deeper and deeper and deeper. Was even dry and windblown in there, noticeably dryer than anywhere else in the resort. Pics to follow.....

I was legitimately eating snow down there. The face shots down the face from gotcha ridge into Lindsays. I had my mouth open in amazement and it got completely filled with snow. So much charge

I did see the Firies coming down the hill on the drive up and also paramedics/ski patrol looking over the edge near the snow clearing depot. Didn’t hear anything on hill.

I assume mechanical. Must have been at least an hour too.
I did see a guy doing/changing something on the electrical box where the alarms are, at the load area.

Hey Hothamites, this Sydney skier is thinking of taking the kids to Hotham in the extended week, first week of Oct. Or Perisher. Perisher is obviously closer and will have most of its best terrain open. Will Hotham? I know much rain could fall before then and so on, but given average luck and even half the current 2m base, will Heavenly be open? I don’t expect Gotcha and/or Orchard but we ain’t comin all that way for just Road Runner and Summit. Thoughts? Past experiences in extended weeks?

    Thanks!

Summit, Road Runner and Heavenly would most likely be the only lifts guanteed to be open. I haven't been up in a few weeks so Id be keen here from someone who is up atm on how the snow is holding up

Best of all worlds this weekend. Friday - super slushy, but almost corny in less traveled places chute, Lindsay's etc.
Saturday snowed on and off, sometime a mix, sometimes snow. Good fun in retro gear.
Today - orchard was great, a few faceshots from the bigger stashes. Then into womens down hill ish which I had to myself and was great.
