I feel sorry for resort based "chalet and ski lift "skiers this season.

Snow camping and skinning up BC XC hills is going to be so much easier than enduring all of these plague related rules and uncertainty.

The Falls Creek website states that (for Falls Creek) you will be able to buy vehicle entry for the days that you have the lift pass and/or accommodation booked. So that provides good assurance for access if staying off-mountain and they also state that the car entry can be purchased up to a couple of days before going. I haven't seen anything similar put out by Hotham management. That would be nice to read.

I know some lodges are open but many are not taking non-member bookings.

I heard something yesterday, not yet seen in writing, that it might not even be allowed

Homeowners at DP who live on the hill full time in winter - no priority and still on the waiting list for car season pass. Not feeling the vibes, probably just use DP as a base to reset and live out of my 4wd skiing bogong, feathers and other BC locations all season

Yes we Victorians are a cesspool of virulent viral loads. Though about 20 cases a day for 6 million peeps is pretty low. I'll try to sit on my partner's Friday epidemiology update from high up in the Vic epi health professional hierachy for a thorough update.
On the plus side the NSW Premier could ban her flock from flocking south for the winter = more room at Hotham and Falls for we risky Vics :nerd:

Im wondering with all these lodges shut how quiet it will be......and subsequently how low the offer will be on grooming, lift openings, snowmaking etc.

Anyway im always happy to ski on the hottest driest inhabitated continent....

Dunno if anyone heard 774 'unofficial histories' with raph tonight but it was on mt hotham and inc an interview with bill barker. Needed buff as well imo but some good stories sharef

Yes I heard it. A very interesting piece of nostalgia. Fond memories.

I went up Hotham summit chair, and down to just below roadrunner chair today.
Any lower and it looked too thin to risk my skis on, tho maybe next time I'll head over to heavenly chair as that might be clearer of obstacles and more skiable.
I always feel like a bit of an idiot getting around with skis and ski gear in a resort that isn't open yet. But those suckers aren't skiing yet and I am, so the joke is on them.

    yeah sir francis bacon.
normally 5-6 days on snow and i find skis comfortable and ready to go.
but sir francis bacon took about 60 days to wear in, and now i find them very comfortable and an extension of my being. i hadn't heard that they're infamous, but perhaps that is why. i figure most tourists take several years to get 60 days on snow.
still not as fun as opus or pescados tho.

This is the kind of thing I've asked a few times of Hotham staff and I haven't got a straight answer, surely this is the only way that things can be managed properly...if you get a lift pass or a season pass reservation you then get a coupon number or something that means you can book a resort entry pass. I don't see how anything else could even work properly.

No epi update was given this week. You may have heard the numbers of about 30 new diagnoses of SARS-CoV2 infection per day in Vic. However the more relevant news is the ongoing low snow forecast. Let it snow!

With the cams offline mostly offline today at Falls and Hotham I'm assuming there is more green than white on the slopes this weekend. Week 2 of Vic school hols is still the plan to try to start using our Epic passes if there is enough snow by then at Hotham or Falls.

Are Hotham actually making much snow at the moment. Sort of hard to tell with some cosmetic cover around. Maybe the summit? Big D looks forgotten?

I don't think the snowmaking conditions have ben very good. The relative humidity has been too high.

Agree in the past Weeks but the last two nights should have been OK Based on Buller’s efforts.

Does feel like they’re waiting until natural snow opens the resorts up. Bit hard to blame them unless you’ve got a holiday booked next week, where one might be getting rather anxious.

With no Mighty Mites (3-5 year olds) ski school running this year, and with snowmaking installed on Summit a few years ago, Hotham has little incentive to make snow on Big D.
Many seasons they fulfill their "three lifts" promise by doing just enough snowmaking to get Big D, Summit trainer and Upper Playground going. It looks like they doing something similar this year, and going for Summit, Summit Trainer and Road Runner, with a strip on Basin for access. I expect the rain on the lower slopes due on Wednesday will prevent Village running at all next week.

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed and hoping against hope that Mighty Mites opens up in August. If not, I'll be taking a close friend to Hotham with me, but that's still not an ideal - I'd rather have my boy getting some time on the snow.

it’s a shame the Heli service is so pricey in normal years Hotham and Falls make a handy pair of resorts; covering mainly blue/black and green/blue respectively. (Does anyone every dream of a linking skitube?) ;)

...more seriously, I struggle with the notion of Summit trainer counting as a lift. I guess It serves little-lies &
    Newbies so fulfils needs.

Hi everyone we are four epic pass holders and just can’t wait for the season to start. We have booked accommodation for 2trips already both with a group of friends (late July and mid Aug). I have been so keen until the recent increases in cases in VIC... Today I look at all the suburbs that have to be in shutdown again in the news and I just realised how vulnerable we are. I started to think if going to skiing is something worthwhile to put our and family’s health at risk. I would hate myself if I been to snow and then come back to Melbourne and give anything to any elderly in our family. Or I could give anything to anyone who I stayed with me in the lodge.

Having considered all of this, I still really wanted to go. But at the same time it’s troubling me. Luckily our suburb is not in one of the lockdown suburbs but again that could happen as well.

    Hello everyone

With GOD’s help I managed to get a one day lift pass on Monday 6th July at Hotham..car entry to resort has been paid also

However, I have no one to go with!

I live in Southern Eastern suburbs of Melbourne and if anyone is keen to go please let me know. I have a Hyundai Iload with plenty of room and snow chains ready to go.

Also, if anyone is already going I would be happy to meet you there on the slopes and ski together

Please let me know if this could work with anyone
