Anyone have a best guess what a 5 day pass will be for the last week of August?

Not much below the cost of a season (Epic pass)?

Better value to get an Epic and try to head up one or two weekends?
Really tough though if you can only head up for 5 - resorts don’t really care about short-stay / infrequent skiers! :(

Sorry to hear matey. If it wasn’t so uncertain with the new bubble with NZ, I’d suggest flying past our hills to Queenstown. Next time perhaps? I’ve hear from Perth NZ stacks up well for one, one+ weeks? Especially if you have 1-2 people to split hire-car costs?

I note (for another year?) - Cardrona still have some good deals (from NZ $75/day for pack up to 6 days, either just lifts or with ski hire / lessons added?

https://new.cardrona.com/lift-pass-...letter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=ebmd2021

Sorry to rub it in btw! We’d love to get back to NZ for a nicely rounded holiday package with our son, but it’s a bigger risk than we’d like take just now, pre-vaccination.

Run the no’s. Check what deals you can get with gear/lessons (if needed)?

If you think you may want 1-2 rest days in bad weather, then consider buying lifts on a ‘daily-basis’. Saves you buying tickets for days where skiing is poor - the multiple day discounts in Australia aren’t all that generous these days. Good luck

What would Hotham typically have open by the end of June? Summit, Big D, others? Assume no big dumps before then.

Hotham usual try to have BigD, Summit, Roadrunner and Village chairs spinning for school holidays with snowmaking. They also have limited snowmaking on Heavenly.

appears they were running them in any case.
if a snowmaker runs without a webcam watching, did it actually make snow?

i still reckon its too early, especially with the forecast this week.
looks like 5-15cm storm on 27th tho.

(pics from the facebook post also commenting on no snowmaking)

Both are fine. Lawlers are a flat walk across the coral car park and just behind Chalet Hotham. Razorback has a little bit more of a hill to get to them but not to bad. Again across the coral car park and then up the road for about 50-100m

Are Razorback Apartments and Lawlers a PITA to get up to, or manageable?

agreed, quite manageable for people who can carry/drag their own ski bags, luggage and gear there, even if its two trips.
probably not so if you have a bunch of kids involved tho, unless you want to do 6 trips.

the route to Razorback will probably be mostly well travelled and probably just a compacted ice road because of the parking behind arlberg. Lawlers less so, but quite a bit shorter.

alternatively you can pay for over snow transport, a small trailer towed behind a skido. $40 off the top of my head. snowtow.com.au

Howdy all,

I’m up at Hotham this weekend for a lodge work party and I was wondering whether to throw in the XC skis for a 30 minute giggle up near the summit/ top of HV.

I note the summit RoundCam show it’s mostly white up top. Does anyone whether it’s skiable up there or if they’ve seen or heard of optimistic folks trying to ski this week?

Cheers for any info.

Ok yeah NZ vs Hotham for a fellow Perthite. + reliable snow fall in NZ. let us know what you find there on the budget side.

about 4pm today, looking from loch carpark to summit chair.
191791824_1864932043666662_5965930059240679224_n.jpg

loch carpark has been reshaped in preparation for the construction. theyve dug into the hillside towards the road a little and put up a new road barrier.
but the temporary setup looks to me that its about the same size as it used to be, if not a little bigger.

Does that mean Loch will still be in action this season? Great if so!

Good news, when I passed a few weeks back it looked as though it was going to be unworkable as a car park this year

Are the Vic resorts making snow during the lockdown ?? (Buller yes yesterday from cams)
Yeah Hotham has been.
We saw a snowboarder hiking and giving the last 20m of summit run a go yesterday. Looked real firm with 1mm on top lol. but it was a good solid base.

No snowmaking last night I think, subsequently a lot of melt. To make it worse there's rain forecast for this arvo too.
In our wander today also noticed the fancy glass roadbase too. I've been doing my best to help contribute to the green coloured category mostly, enough that part of the road should say 'sponsored by andy'

Thredbo has 64 pages in their current year thread and we're still on Page 1. Why don't Hotham fans embrace this site ?
meh. its not about penis measuring.

its probably a bit of a different type of community clique up here. i feel its more about locals meeting up for a drink, rather than showing off on social networks/forums/etc. probably a different age group too?

there's also not much news to report;
i feel a bit redundant posting weather updates here. anyone can check a webcam online.
we have an unfinished carpark, and some of our roads got upgraded. the lifts are already ready to go weeks ago and all the snowguns are going full tilt. its just nothing except counting down to 12th now.

i suppose its news that the hotdog stand and chill bar are open now?

speaking of weather updates, its blizzarding sideways today. accumulating quickly.
20210608_100637.jpg

non-grass areas are covered, enough so that people are hiking and skiing the pathways (and hitting rocks).
we've also run into several groups of people coming back from hiking and skiing the summit. tho its got large sections of grass sticking through still because they haven't flattened out the snow whales yet.

i just kicked at the snow a bit with my foot. guestimate 10cm ish accumulation overnight, 15cm total the last two days with seemingly little compaction and not much sign of adhesion to the grass bit that i dug up. can see how much the garden rocks are buried compared to yesterdays photo.

if I was allowed to ski, and didn't love my skis, I'd probably consider hiking today. but no doubt it'll be all collapse'y cause its still floating on top of the grass.
ms pink jacket will probably go hike a bit tomorrow or friday.

snow guns still going. i think their running makes our fridge sound weird o_O

a. Hotham skiiers / boarders just ski / board. No chattering class here.
b. Most of us are in lockdown wondering if we will get there this year and are managing our expectations by keeping quiet, and those that arent in lockdown are wondering what will actually happen on the mountain this year.
