Rode them all on Monday, lots of fun. Nothing hard core but fun...... Riding all the downs and returning to the top each time was just under 20km
Classic! Unfortunately not much at all has changed around the mountain since then! Funny entrance by Steve Lee at 34:30ish and the follow up discussion of the snow board (as opposed to the snow ski).
Thanks for that mossy, bit of history there. And I think Your right, not much has changed. Edit...... except the Zoo Cart.
Even the inside of Zirky's looks the same. I noticed the RMB built a 'Zoo Cart Park' in Davenport near Trapdoor. Thought they might bring back one of the old trailers to life.....seems to be just a bocce court. Did I tell you that I tried to upload the video of installing the towers on Gotcha/Keohs/Orchard lifts? (and didn't succeed).
Bets for which lifts turning, QBWE? Hard to know new owners thinking (and deal still not done!), but I'm thinking they wont open early... then for long weekend Big D, summit Roadrunner and village. They could also have Heavenly open if they could be arsed and weren't so tight - but maybe new owners will be breath of fresh air.
yeah hmm @Boodwah i expect they could get heavenly open based on next weeks forecast. im pretty tempted to head up anyway
Tempted to head up this weekend for a bit of sidecountry Had a kid/wifeless weekend away planned for Apollo Bay/Aire river way but , well I love my flyfishing and all, but....snow! Hmmmm.
Yeees nice...... mrs mr is away this w/e so no go for me but maybe warming up for stirling tomoz, and then hotham with the 2 older kids next w/e
Agree, HV should be ready but they might not be. Myself and 2 kids plan to go up for QB weekend.should feel like mid winter.
Do our hero passes just top up last years physical card? I cant remember what the website said last october ir whatever
Getting the house sorted for the season Have lost firewood supply number - I think his name was Richard? From cobungra - does anyone have his number? Thanks in advance (no doubt I'll run into him driving around dp)
Do you get the 'benefits' posted? Ill be up with about 6 teen boys this weekend.....staying peninsula
Mine ends up not being a normal HERO Pass due to work arrangements but my wife definitely gets the 'benefits' with hers.

The Moscow Villa hut at Bentley Plain in the Ensay/Omeo region has not , as far as I can ascertain , been damaged by fire, so far.
CFA Fundraiser now stands at 47.5 K. That’s the kind of sum that starts making a difference when it comes to additional equipment etc.
Room with a view and dead timber hill loop. Cope looks skiable. Good to acclimatise, and walking over snow covered ground is always great training. Base fitness is good, and only 1 week to go until full ankle recovery (rolled it 4wding) Even did some light jogging for the first time in 5 weeks
Nice pics - I love the rolling snow gum country. And Well done for getting back on the horse. But not exactly Powder Central is it?
Choices for the afternoon, leaning towards option 3 and save the skiing for when its not disgusting up there Ski hotham Hit up xc trail Walk Montane loop
Another nice day out amongst the snowgums. Good fitness. All to myself. Save skiing for when conditions improve and #fairweatherskiing - @Boodwah was right, Carmichael falls natural amphitheatre saved DP from the fires
Advantage of resort not being open - can actually get a park in corral. How resort management thought putting containers there was a good idea baffles me
Great shots. That last photo - I think I know that little pool. Is that about 3/4 way down to the falls? If so, its an excellent spot for a cooling dip on the hottest summer days when even DP feels it.
How is it convenient? Thanks, I enjoy getting out there and getting shots not relatively many get to see, and share them
Seemingly a sharp increase in dogs at DP. To dog owners (and cat owners, who apparently can get alpine shire council permission), please train your animal so it SHUTS UP. Try to enjoy some tranquility in the mountain forest and all I can hear is bloody barking dogs
I swear dogs have more rights than people in some ways. If we make man-made noise (parties, music, power tools etc...) at excessive volumes or overnight/ early morning, the Police can force us to cease or Even charge us. I understand with dog noise - it’s up to the council - with outcomes generally in favour of the offending yapper. You have my sympathies H - we have a lot of happy small dogs ( Pomeranians, etc...) here in SE Mel subs - it’s bad when you can’t escape dog noise in the very few Alpine Areas we have! I quite like nice quiet dogs BTW. I don’t mind the odd bark but geez our dog laws are weak! A joke!
Egads Cats don’t belong up there! Gee Alpine Shire must be desperate for pet licence fees. you’d have to hope most cats will naturally want to stay inside with (usually) cold, wet snow surrounding the house. Other than bodily functions. Not sure I lime the sound of thaw time with dogs around?
A few years back I saw a feral cat on the far edge of JB Plain on my way to Mt Tabletop. We don't need to be adding to those numbers...
Having skiied all of the terrain available in VIC, it was time to find something else to keep the fitness up Thanks to bcbro for his suggestion and to @Cam Walker for his track notes Buckland gap - the gunns. Absolutely stunning views, including over the razorback to the politically correct mountains and bhp. Some really beautiful trees. A young couple camping with their 4wd on the helipad were surprised to see someone wander up the track on foot lol Will definetly be taking the 4WD out there after it receives some much needed TLC
Great photos.I have looked at the map and wondered what that is like up there. In a better ski season it could be good to skin up there.
Great pics (trees & views) but I’m staggered about how little snow there is for early August. Maybe this week will help turn it around? I’m trying work out on Google Maps exactly where these ridges, helipads are - seem to be ~ West Of the (snowless) Twins & the GAR. Maps takes me down to near Myrtleford. Would love to visit au 4WD myself out of snow season (ha!). Not that keen bushwalking with diesel & dust. Thanks in advance for any tips.
Buckland gap is before you reach the Mt. St. Bernard Hospice. The 4 wd track starts near the resort entrance on the Gt. Alpine road coming up from the Harrietville side.
Dragged myself off the couch with many coffees, had to get out amongst it - it is the first time it has actually snowed in weeks, albeit not much. Good fitness, 12km, 300m vert, 1.5 hrs moving time, including 3km Bush bashing
J B Plain is not exactly endowed with deep continuous snow cover, is it ?. Have you ever seen such a lean snow season up there?
