Except the lunch menu leaves a bit to be desired. Queueing up like cattle for over-priced bain-marie food is not on. It's not Swindlers! I go there for the Schoefferhoffer and the gluhwein not the food.

As much as I hate to say it, Zirky's need to take a leaf out of Tyrol's book at Buller.

Brickbats: How about updating the Mountain report on your sponsored app!!!

At least the website has a detailed report but sheesh. You promote the app and push people to use it, it should be bare minimum as good a user experience as your website.

Same quote "more snow on the way" has been there for well over a week.
A road conditions section would be really useful.

Agree, information on the app is rubbish. For a few days last week it was saying 'Gotcha opening today!' when in reality other runs were being closed due to lack of snow.

Someone's made a Facebook group to show road updates, chain reports, speed camera and booze bus for Hotham, Falls Creek and surrounds.

    New snowmaking great.
But that they choose to position guns so to make the squeeze on SG even squeezier, and almost completely block off the canyon with one gun strikes me as beyond stupid.

Brickbat: still only two lifts open for advanced skiers after this storm? And they're old, non-detachable and slow... After two days in Hotham my conclusion is it needs a strategy change on lifting its most important asset; its customers.

exactly Wardy, this is what I have been banging on about for years. Everyone seems be distracted by car parks and RMB bashing. Car parking is only a very minor inconvenience if you chose to make it so and think that way. Where as not carrying out any lift upgrades/expansion since 1998, that's the big news item and should be discussed!

I thought it was unusual for Orchard lifts (or Blue Ribbon) to open before August - because they need more than a metre. So the answer would be new lifts (as @FlatLander said) rather than extracting a digit.

And be careful what you wish for. Better Heavenly is slow than it deposit even more people at the top

That's right Currawong Orchard and BR take a bit more, I have seen Orchard open on around 70/80cm and br a bit more. It really depends on the snowfalls/temps/vibe etc.

Absolutely yes, keep HV as it is more people in the air the better, and its really one of my favourite lift rides.

I am thinking of new lifts/terrain/options. eg skier bridge or bridges above the current bridge. a new lift from around the top of slalom gully over road and unloads towards where summit is now. Provides options for accessing below road and a high quick access to HV and Gotcha. Mid load on Blue ribbon and extend above the road and onto Higgi. Another skier bridge allowing sking for the top half of blue ribbon in the lower snow periods. Also this would provide a lunch/end of day return to Davenport taking load of the buses. Then of course the new lift was it down p gully planned for a couple of years ago providing some advanced terrain. Then more terrain parks and features, say below swindlers and zirkys serviced with a cheap drag lift. Also earth works so a half pipe can be constructed with minimal snow, and snow fences for the summit, too much snow is lost from the summit (high section) delaying its opening and closing it early. This would also provide snow banks for later farming. And more snow fences, think snow fences, snow fences snow fences. I understand they are not everyones cup of tea as they affect the serenity :), but they are exceptionally usefull tools. anyway my 2c worth....now I have to get back to work

Bouquet: they opened Gotcha at around 1100 today and holy crap! I think that's the best skiing I've ever had in Oz. Still cutting fresh lines next to Keoghs at 330 this arvo. Wow.

Now you can see the light.
i was also there after it opened.
Hotham has so much to offer you just need to know where to go.
Did you notice all the fresh tracks over the other side, one tree hill and spargos.
    Glad you enjoyed.

Brickbat: Slalom Gully (I think that's what it's called, under Heavenly). Where's the mountain staff policing the chaos?! I saw one major collision (blood, dudes laid out, concussions likely) a dozen minor collisions, some involving little children and adults, and a hundred near misses. One staffer, strategically placed on the run, with a whistle and a licence to confiscate lift passes, would be the preventative needed to reduce the 'road toll' here significantly. Another example of Hotham's lack of constructive, positive, mountain management IMO

Death gully - Hotham's worst feature. Hate it. I only ski Hotham when Orchard and/or Blue Ribbon are open (and usually only mid-week) so that there is more chance of spreading out the crowd - or I can go somewhere else

Brickbat: Lift queues today. Would have thought getting Orchard and BR open on what was always likely to one of the busiest days of the year would be a prority. Even Hotham central couldn't cope with the crowds at lunch.

Bouquet: 730 open on Heavenly. At least a few runs without massive crowds.

Nope. Still there. Couple of accidents I saw on the weekend indirectly caused by people trying to avoid them. Surprise surprise, mountain run by cretins.

What's the go with Optus mobile reception? Was there on the weekend and had effectively no service anywhere on the mountain. Heard from others that this had been the case for over a week.

Same problem for me too up there last week. Frustratingly with 2 Telstra customers and they have 4g connection the entire time whilst I had next to nothing, including not getting texts come through at all.

bouquets. I really like the updates on what is opens/closed on hold from the Hotham app.
In the past week has been really handy.
Especially while sitting at my work desk musing about massive snow only to see lifts on windhold...
Seriously though, road updates were really good.
also, new snowmaking really helped at the start of the season to get things kicking off.
I was sceptical about snow making on the summit but now I'm a convert.

Brickbats: Procedure when lifts breakdown could do with a refresh.
And... this season, there has been a fair bit of practical application.

Brickbat: sticking with closing half way through the school holidays when there's almost 2 meters on the ground. Unlike Falls, Buller and Perisher who have extended their season to 8/10.
